"Drake's flagship beer! A "West Coast" interpretation of an India Pale Ale. Copper-colored from additions of light Crystal malt, and body-building Caramalt, carry the malt weight of this hop bomb. The hoppy aromas of pine and grapefruit are delivered from the abundant Columbus and Cascade hops."

Copper, Bitter, dry finish I love the grapefruit resin it leaves on may palate, making me aware of the top of my mouth.

This is a very decent smooth IPA, a little on the aggressive side, but still on this side of the fence in comparison to Stone IPA.

A. Coppy, nice lacing,

S: citrusy, but a get lactose as well, I tested severed times and got lactose as well. (I had no dairy today)

T: Smoth, citrusy bittners, finish is dry and leave ones upper jowls to dry in residual hemp oils.

M: Meadium to full body, Like a full body beer on a diet that is barely working, It could be larger here.

Appearance - This is a clear but effervescent brownish-orange in color with a magnificent head. The foam was pitted with large air bubbles then finally settled into little pits on top of the liquid. The head is just gorgeous.

Smell - The sharp, resiny hops and stiff orange rind almost mask the soft ripe yeast but not quite. It is definitely a hop-forward nose though and you have to use quite a bit of imagination to think of this as an English IPA.

Taste - Amazingly the hops from the nose are just about as strong and powerful at the taste. The mixture of pine and grapefruit will overpower the novice drinker. The light yeasty malt base is actually quite sophisticated but is just barely hanging on here.

Mouthfeel - This medium-bodied EIPA has some bone-crushing bitterness and a nice, sprightly carbonation.

Drinkability - This is a powerhouse of a beer. It goes down especially well and qualifies as a hophead session ale. Just a tad more malt and a little bit more alcohol and this would be a classic DIPA.

One of my good friends that works at the local BevMo recommended me this beer and I was not dissapointed. The beer poured a dark copper color and had one of the most stickey heads I've ever seen. The smell was quite hoppy with a hint of oak in there as well. The taste was unexpected but good. The beer had a big dose of hops for sure, but not of the typical West Coast variety. This one leaned more towards a slightly hopped up version of a English IPA. The hops mixed in very nicely and smelt very ripe, but the beer was not overy dry like many West Coast IPA's. This one is a welcome change for IPA fans.

A --- Nice hazy amber color with about a 1/3" of foam head

S --- Pine, citrus, hoppy

T --- Smooth, nice balance of hops & malts, not over the top bitter

M --- Medium body with right amount of carbination. Smooth.

O --- This is a very good beer. I will try to find it on tap and try it again.

12 ounce bottle, no freshness indication offered.

Pours auburn hued amber, typical looking off white head, leaves respectable tongues of lacing on the glass.

Hops burning the nostrils

This is a rich and densely flavorfull IPA, with an ample caramel malt base but featuring wave after wave of biting citric hops. California/West coast style all the way. Well done and quite enjoyable stuff

The beer pours an orange color with a white head. The aroma is a mix of pine and orange hops, along with a lot of resiny notes. The flavor is a little different but still very nice. I get a lot of bitter papaya and oranges with some pine and bready malt mixed in. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. A very nice American IPA.

Thanks to fartingdog for this bottle in a trade. Plastic wrapper is a PIA. Classic West Coast hops within an English style IPA. Great hoppy nose. Amber color without a lot of head in the pour. Very bitter with a citrus flavor. I would drink this all the time if I could.

A superb IPA. Pours a hazy orange with a decent off-white head. Aroma is hoppy, but with lots of malt and resin. The taste is outstanding. Perfectly balanced hop bitterness with the carmel malt, but a crisp finish. No stickiness at all. It was worth the wait.

Drake's IPA from a botle.

Initial bold malty molasses paired with a nice nutty citrusy IPA comfort. Dark amber, not overly bitter or hoppy and is easy to drink at 7% alcohol. Soft carbonation with a thick mouthfeel and plenty of frothy foam. Pine flavor comes in nicely throughout to create a medium-complex and highly drinkable IPA that will make you stop and think. This beer stands out among west coast IPA's as less insanely hoppy and more of a well rounded and thoughtful ale.

Received from Fartindog in trade during Bif Race 07. Great looking beer right of the bat, reddish amber with a foamy white head that leaves a similar foam lacing. Not much of a nose, just some citrus. Taste is what I would expect in an English IPA, very well balanced but one thing that I couldn't get out of my mouth was the cocoa finish.

Bottle poured into glass.

Beer is a cloudy muddy brown while the head is a light bronish color. Head is thick and foamy with very good rentention. Good stickness on the glass.

Smells of carmel, molasses, slight citrus, pine.

Taste is very pungent and strong. Very bitter IPA. I would say more of a heavy IPA that is strong and less refreshing than other good ones I have had. Some sweetness in the taste. I like it but just a little to much for me.

Beer is tangy with not a lot of carbonation in the mouth.

One or two of these in a sitting is plenty.

Had this a billion times at Ricky's in San Leandro. Usually hit up the Bistro for a festival, catch a ride over here and watch the fights w/ a few pints of this stuff.

Big orange pour, a little more dull than the "vibrant" orange stuff you might see. Good hoppy aroma, hops are the name of the game, seems to be ample dry hopping in a single. A lot of malt, this leans to the heavier side of single ipas. A good amount of bitterness, but never outweighs the hop mouthfeel.

Decent enough price.

Thanks to bring for tossing this in as an extra.

A - Hazy golde-amber in color, with a good inch of white head. Retention is fair for the style with some lacing left behind as it subsides

S - Grapefruit and caramel malt with notes of pine.

T - Very piney hop bite with plenty of malty goodness up front. The grapefruit kind of lingers around in the finish. Good hop bite with almost enough malt to balance it out.

M - Very creamy with low to medium carbonation. Medium in body.

D - I found this IPA to be no less drinkable than any other.

Overall this is a solid offering from Drake's and has me interested in some of their other offerings.

Bottle poured into FFF Teku glass

A - Hazy, dark orange with hints of brown. There is a white, one finger white head that leaves some nice lacing

S - Light grapefruit, pine and tangerine come forth from. Overall, a simple and light nose

T - Strong grapefruit and light pine dominate Initally. There is a light sweet orange that comes in the middle of the beer. The finish is strong pine that lingers in the finish. Well balanced and only a light hint of the 7% ABV

MF - Medium carbonation with a creamy medium body. There is a slight resin residue that remains in the finish that helps the pine linger on

O - Solid west coast IPA that I could imagine drinking on a frequent basis if I had access to it. However, it is not outstanding enough for me to want to get some in the Midwest as its much easier to get a hold of Furious or Two-Hearted.

12 ounce poured into a nonic pint.

Pours golden amber with a thin foamy head that remains throughout.

Smells sweet and fruity like citrus. The hops are flowery and very present on the nose.

Tastes like pine and grapefuit citrus. Nice spicy bitter finish that doesn't overpower the overall flavor. Some sweet malt in there as well

Mouthfeel is medium and is nicely carbonated.

Overall a really good beer that I could drink a few of in a night for sure.
