This is a good DIPA, but it's not my kind of flavor profile. I just don't like big malty flavors in my IPA's. The malt flavor, mainly the caramel profile takes over.. I don't get much tropical fruit, or fruit at all. There is a big floral profile, and a big sweetness from the malt. I wanted more hops and tropical fruit.

Nice frothy head, crests around two fingers, darker eggshell white hue, fair amount of larger bubbles but retention is good, the lacing is very splotchy but this too sticks. Cloudy liquid, sort of deep orange-brown at the core, more yellow further out, the bubbles are scattered, large and slow, not the most visually appealing beer. Thick, sweet nose of oak barrels, caramel, vanilla, cocoa, booze and peach to apricot paste, kind of over the top, the herbaceousness of the hops diminished as a result, the pine tar and coal notes actually bring freshness, has prolonged staying power basically because it has clogged up your nostrils. Full-bodied, feels more right-sized here though, its heaviness distributed across the palate. Pink grapefruit, tangerine pulp blends into concentrated pineapple, guava, apricot fruit. The carbonation brings a welcome prickle, favoring the pine, grass and earth for a moment. Then it’s back to the cocoa, mocha, vanilla, butterscotch and molasses flavors. While it deserves points for a fair amount of flavor intensity, its ability to fatigue the palate, well, fatigues the palate. Wish it moved with more effortless grace.

Poured from the bottle into a spiegelau IPA glass. Bottled date April 21, 2014.

Gorgeous looking beer, looks a lot like Stone Enjoy By series. Deep bronze orange and bright red. Supper bursting crystal clarity, and plentiful but not over abundant carbonation. Thick creamy and billowing head, off white in color, fist full height tall. Thick island clumps and peaks and valleys, hanging off the edge of the glass. Just fantastic appearance.

Very nice subtle but noticeable soft hop aromas. Mild caramel with a big topping floral nose, and mild herbal spice. Brown sugar. Molasses, and floral sap out of a tree. Smells gooey and sticky. Loving it.

Palate meets expectations. Soft and candy like caramel malts more sensing of taffy. A real nice hop softness, hints towards floral and tea herbal aromatics. Soft malted backbone comes out pillowy. Icing sugar. Little bit of stinging carbonation on the front tip of the tongue, then goes to punch like juice mouthfeel.

A real nice mellow and fun IPA, very easy drinking as well for a high ABV. Really digging it. Not earthshattering, but overall just great and can't be missed.
