FINALLY got to try this one, of all the Drake's offerings I've gone through thus far. Poured into a mason jar at a bar somewhere in downtown SF.

Produces an orange-amber color, almost to the point of being slightly reddish. While I'm still getting used to the mason-jar-replacing-shaker-pint fad going on in various places (all over the country, it seems), it nevertheless does provide excellent head retention overall that comes off as a thick, foamy, and white, about 2-fingers tall. Resinous for sure, and definitely obvious with the lacing that comes around. Slightly bubbly, but nothing too festive. Raw and rustic - looks like a DIPA home brew. Drake's always seems to nail this type of fantastic display in their beers.

The aroma is a beast of resinous hoppy and bittered aromas - not in the same sense as Hopocalypse, but I'd go out and say that this is far harsher. Blood oranges, pineapple, grapefruit, musty, dried hoppy dankness (almost herbal), as well as notes of honeysuckle and minerality. Super floral and the finish, almost the point of stinging the nostrils. There's some sugary malts below this somewhere, but this is not mellow by any means. Booze is well hidden, but this could use some balance. Provides a bittered assault without much substance from the malts, but somehow, this reduces the aromatic qualities of the initial citrus/floral bouquet.

The palate is immediately pelted with dried, resinous hops, often resembling bittered blood orange rinds, grapefruit, and pine, and then soon after melds into a vegetal, near peppery earthy flavor. Extremely floral - almost like eating dried flowers. Luckily, it does hold a more solid toasted caramel-like backbone at the finish, which mellows out the hoppiness and provides more leeway for the flavors to relax and shine. Gets progressively better as it is sipped, and it owes a lot to the excellent carbonation in the beer - which isn't excessive or silky, but rather brings forth sweetened nuances from the grains and booze to relish the initial bitterness a bit. This is really a sipper, though - not for DIPA beginners by any means, and it took me a long while to finish due to the high astringency.

A solid DIPA from Drake's, and it seems like it's very popular, but Lord knows why. This is really acidic, astringent, floral stuff, especially in the aroma. Dry as all get-out, and definitely one that can kick your ass across town with the demonically hidden ABV. Hopocalypse and this are night and day. This focuses far more on providing a hop assault, while the former seems to strive for more balance and flavor complexity with the extra malts. I still find it ironic that my favorite beers in this style contain a malt robustness, but hey, after you've been defeated one too many times by beers this dry and astringent, you couldn't really ask for anything else. I recommend pairing this with food, especially of the spicy varieties. Not my favorite but definitely worth a shot.

A - Pours a clear copper with the slightest hint of amber, leaves a mountainous 2 finger fluffy light caramel colored head. Fantastic colors, retention is perfect, as is the lacing with outstanding.

S - Juicy sweet and citrusy fruits (orange, grapefruit, pear, lemon rinds, etc), floral hoppy bitterness, and a quite noticeable caramel malty sweetness. A bit of alcohol is detectable as well.

T - Hop bomb! Very very citric and bitter up front, the alcohol and dry bitterness really play well off each other. Lots of piney resin. Sweet malts are undetectable - very dry and bitter with a hefty load of alcohol astringency. Not very well balanced, but definitely a tasty hop bomb.

After about 5 ounces my palate adjusted pretty well and the astringency has faded. Still a ton of citrus, rinds, dry hoppyness and a hint of alcohol, simple and standard but very good.

M - Medium/full bodied, pretty juicy (not too strongly carbonated). A bit of a sipper for sure, much better once my palate adjusts.

O - A pretty big beer for sure, lots of bold in your face flavors collide at once but it works well. If I wanted a BIG IIPA this is definitely a good choice!

a beautiful pour. copper/amber clean pour with 2 fingers of frothy off-white head leaving behind nice amounts of lacing. smells nutty, sweet, slight grapefruit hint.. malt forward scents. wow, this is a tasty dipa but not very hop-forward like i was expecting. lots of caramel and barley malt.. very reminiscent of dfh 90. medium body with a modest amount of carbonation and a nice creamy mouthfeel.

this is a pretty solid beer to have year round, didn't notice the abv was so high.. it's barely noticeable. i just wish it were hoppier.

Raul does this. Raul does this well and good.

Nice lil balance between the West and the East. Like Columbus landing in the West Indies, Raul found him a goodie. Nice lil balance between the malt and the juice - it reminds Raul of his last hottie; intelligent, beautiful, intellectual, definitely different from the rest... but unlike said hottie, Raul won't ditch Denogginizer for greener (less psycho) pastures.

Woogie boogie!
