33cl bottle. Hazy orange with a medium height white head and visible carbonation. Caramel, citrus hops and some tropical fruit. Refreshing and drinkable, could do with a bit more bitterness.

Slightly hazy deep golden color with slightly off-white head. Aroma has some citrusy and piney hops, slightly dank and vegetal. Taste follows, citrusy, slightly resiny and grassy hops, a bit of underlying malt sweetness, medium bitterness on the finish but mostly in the aftertaste. Medium body with smooth carbonation. Overall it's a classic, easy drinking pale ale.

Poured from 12 oz bottle into chilled glass mug. Golden orange colour with a nice off white head. The aroma is not over powering. Smells of faint hops and slight citrus. Tastes very crisp with just a hint of malts. Goes down smooth and at 5.5 abv you can enjoy more than just the first bottle, which I think I will. Prost!

Light mix of orange and yellow, very full head. Grassy dry hop aromas, c hops, not gigantic, but appropriate for a west coast pale ale for sure.

Light grassy hops continue on the first sip. Light malt bill, dry. Mild sweetness, reluctant to have any caramel in this one, malt is pale. Not a massive mouthfeel of hops, an above average pale ale you can drink a lot of in one setting should you choose to do so.

Had this pale ale on draft at the Benchmark Eatery in Santa Barbara. It's a solid if not great pale ale. Still, gets the job done. Crisp, refreshing and goes down easy

On-tap at Base Camp Pizza in South Lake Tahoe, California.

Got a 32oz mason jar of the stuff, and thought it was quite nice. A slightly "dusty" malt aroma is what I get first, with some citrus oil underneath that. The flavor is much of the same. This is pleasant, but doesn't have an awful lot of flavor after a few sips. Regardless, it's tasty and I'd have it again.

PROBABLY the best beer in the 6 pack line up. Just the right amount of alcohol to make you keep wanting to drink them. If you buy Any of drakes 6 packs this is the one.

Disappointed. Lacking in every aspect of a good pale ale

Golden to light orange

No nose to speak of. Subtle citrus

Pine to citrus. Lemon Lime

Med carbonation

Underwhelming. Slight bitter. Slight citrus. Not worth getting

A 12 ounce bottle poured into a chilled shaker pint glass (at Gott's Roadside in Napa, CA).

Appearance - The color of new penny. Slightly hazy. A nice head made up of fine bubbles. Monster lacing.

Smell - Spicy hop smell. Herbal.

Taste - Crisp on the front end. Spicy hops. Mild malt flavor. The finish is a touch sweet. Not bad.

Mouth - Crisp. Resiny. Good carbonation.

Overall - Drake's refers to this beer as a "dry-hopped pale ale." I would definitely put this beer in the IPA category. Although a bigger/toastier malt foundation would have been appreciated, I did enjoy this beer.

On tap at Rock &Brews, El Segundo, poured into shaker. Appearance is clear golden-orange with a short white head that hangs around and leaves some rings of lace on the glass. Aroma is hop-forward showcasing the citrus rind, pine, and orange/grapefruit juice character of the Simcoe and Amarillo hops. Some crackery malt notes are there if you seek them out. Taste is medium bitterness that is contrasted by a dry malt taste. Not a lot of sweetness. Medium body, crisp, average carbonation, long bitter finish.

Look: Deep gold to amber with orange hues. Nice foamy white head that lasts and leaves some gnarly lacing behind. [5]

Smell: Grapefruit, pine, and oranges. Definitely hop-dominated [4]

Taste: Strong, cohesive blend of citrus and pine (orange and grapefruit predominant). A pleasant bready sweetness lingers in the background. Some stronger roast bread flavors (biscuit and toast) are woven between the hop bitterness and the sweet malt. [4.5]

Feel: Somewhat creamy, but there is acidity and bitterness/resin present. Finishes dry, however with a lingering bitterness [3.5]

Overall: A wonderful pale ale. It feels a bit too "heavy" and resinous to drink a lot of it, but definitely has great presentation and flavor. [4.5]

A very hoppy Pale Ale that is -- in my opinion -- much better on tap than in the bottle. In the bottle the aroma becomes EXTREMELY hoppy -- overpowering, and too much, in my opinion. However, on tap it's much more well-balanced and becomes a much nicer drinking experience.

Poured from the bottle into a nonic pint glass.

Pale and hazy apricot orange and yellow body. Lots of cola carbonation on the sides of the glass, and some rising to the top very quickly. Head is a fluffy off white with a nice controlled four finger size. Good retention and frothy island top and hold, with lots of soapy apperances though.

Very nice light bodied hop aroma, with hinting of West coast flavor. Citrus and a bit of pine, some grapefruit qualities, and a nice toast grain aroma. Pretty basic and solid.

Plate matches nicely. Giving to the notes on the nose, citrus warmth in the middle but with a lighter refreshing body. Aftertaste has a bit of toasty and biscuit like grains that compliment nicely. Mid palate fills with good mild juiced qualities with pale ale malt lightness, orange, grapefruit and mellow pine. Malt action hits nicely to cut through the hops letting you know what the base beer is.

Overall just a real solid West coast hopped up pale ale.

Pours a finger and a half of head on a hazy straw colored body.
The aroma is a burst of lemon, pine and grapefruit with a little pineapple.
The taste has great balance. Nice moderate grapefruit bitterness mixed with honey sweet, finishes with a dry bitter.
The texture is crisp and fizzy.
Tasty.

On tap

A pale ale for hop heads. Truly West Coast. Tropical-pineapple, some citrus, slight floral. Woody, earthy, grassy and lots of pine. Soft danky bitterness makes this brew very drinkable. Dry pale malts, cracker like. Light bodied. Refreshing. Hops are on full display here. I love dry hopped ales. A great pale ale, IMO. Get it on tap if you can. I imagine some of the hop freshness and nuances are lost sitting in the bottle.

T: Citrus hops, lime grapefruit and orange peel, a little grassy, some floral bitterness, nicely balanced with a malt sweetness.

M: Medium body, moderate carbonation.

Pours a solid two finger head of eggshell white foam, plenty of larger bubbles and not densely constructed thus retention is so-so, you can fairly broad sheets across the glass sides but lacks stickiness to form meaningful lacing. Cloudy rust orange colored liquid, dense looking, the bubbles are widely dispersed. Decent stiffness to the nose, cocoa powder, grains, grapefruit pith, light grassiness and arguably on the hoppy side for an APA (but this no real surprise), the apricot to nectarine fruit scents are muted, wet resiny presence in the nostrils. Full-bodied, sticky and piney with a good bit of earthy, metallic notes. Bigger citrus, orange, tangerine, lemon, grapefruit. Feels somewhat fizzy, carbonation too aggressive for moderate overall flavor intensity. The cocoa, powdered chocolate steady accompaniment. The nectarine, pineapple, apricot fruit weaves around aimlessly. Pretzel dough, salt, quinine, puckering finish. What is interesting is that with all of the above it actually coheres well and has slurpability. Given its heaviness the younger you consume it the more likely you will pound more and get fatigued less.

The aroma is strong bright american hops, a hint of grassiness. The flavor and taste experience are more balanced than the aroma suggests, excellent medium-low mouthfeel, excellent hop flavors but not as aggressive as I would assume from the hoppy smell, very subtle malt bill but not shallow or one-dimensional, neutral yeast and clean fermentation. Excellent, one of my new favorite APAs, go get yourself some 1500!

Smell - Popcorn malt. Grassy and grapefruit hops.

Taste - A little resiny. Grainy malt. Cracker malt, a little bit of that popcorn flavor. Minimal bitterness.

Mouthfeel - Light. Medium carbonation. Drinkable.

Overall - Drinkable and pretty flavorful. Nothing unique, though.

Appearance: pours an orange color with a 2" fluffy head that slowly fell. Thick lace painted the glass during the session.

Smell: oranges and a soft bitterness were the dominant aromas.

Taste: Caramel, orange, a bit of grass / earthiness, and a nice floral bitterness. Nicely balanced flavor profile.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Crisp to start, less crisp and mildly dry late.

Overall: this beer was very easy to enjoy and tasted great as it seemed to be a super fresh keg. This can be a sessionable beer and can be enjoed with a variety of foods.

Thanks to Paccamacca for the extra!

bottle date of 12/9/13.

poured into tulip glass.

Appearance: hazy orangy yellow bodied beer with 2 fingers of soapy/sudsy white head. Head drops to a thin and uneven ring. Heavy lacing on the glass.

Smell: grapefruit and pine. Dankness in the hops. Light bready malts.

Taste: moderate hoppy bitterness, resinous pine and chalky hops. Grapefruit and orange rinds. Light bready and doughy malts.

Mouthfeel: light bodied beer with moderate carbonation. Really drinkable and I contribute the drinkablility to the almost perfect level of bitterness found in this American Pale Ale.

Overall: Nice bright APA that almost borders on the line as an IPA. Drakes makes a nice hoppy beer here.

A: Pours a clear golden color with an impressive one finger foamy white head with really nice lace down the glass.

S: Bready malt smell with hints of caramel and a touch of piney and grassy hops. Very clean cut.

T: Sweet and bready malt flavors upfront with a light kiss of grassy hops resin on the finish. Some light pine and grain in there as well. Very straight forward and pretty well done.

The beer pours a fairly nice head that is bubbly. The head lasts quite a while and leaves some very thick lacing. The beer itself is a copper and clear. The beer has a nice bready smell in addition to a dry hopped smell. However, the hop smell dominates the bready smell. The main taste notes are hops with some bits of bready flavor in the aftertaste. The hops are fairly present and the hops from the dry hopping are fairly strmg. The hops have a grassy pine smell and the malts give a sweet and bready taste. The mouthfeel is fairly smooth and clean feel. The carbonation is fairly light. Overall, a pretty good beer and worth getting.

On-tap at Library Alehouse, Santa Monica, CA

A: The beer is slightly hazy yellowish amber in color and has no visible carbonation. It poured with a short off white head that died down leaving a thin layer of bubbles on the surface and the sides of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of citrusy hops are present in the nose.
T: The taste mostly follows the smell, except that the citrusy hops are a little subdued. There is a light to moderate amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied and a little crisp on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This APA is quite flavorful and nice and easy to drink.
