Clear golden amber hue topped by copious big bubbled eggshell foam.

Nose of grapefruit pith, citrus rind, and dank piney resin leaps out of the glass.

First sip mirrors the aroma - candied citrus zest, pine forest needles, and resiny high alpha hops (Citrah!) with an undercurrent of spicy rye. Hoptastic blend that pummels the tastebuds with jabs of bitterness followed by an uppercut of grapefruit, citrus, and resin.

Cheers to Mr. Barleywine for bringing this hoppy nectar back from the Left Coast!

In a fun box sent over by vissai a while back. Cheers!

From a bomber into a snifter
IBU: 100+
Magnum, Citra and Chinook. Dry hopped with the same plus Columbus.

APPEARANCE: Pours a two finger, thighter looking, fluffy white head with great retention. Lightly hazy gamboge orange with no real carbonation evident. Head fades to a good foam cap and coats the sides of the glass. A splotchy wisp remains and leaves lots of lacing down the sides. Really nice looking.

SMELL: Pale and caramel malts, honeydew melon in there, with lots of citrus notes, grapefruit, lemon and orange peel. Floral notes too, but the citrus definitely leads teh show. Bold and very complex. Enticing.

TASTE: Caramel sweetness up front, but then an apocalypse of hops at the swallow *wink* with citrus, lemon and some nice grapefruit flavors. A big aftertaste of citrus, lemon, orange peel and bitter grapefruit linger nicely, with some floral notes and a nice amount of caramel and honeydew melon sweetness as balance. This is all about the hops though, and the fruity, bitter finish just won't quit. Really enjoyable.

PALATE: Medium body and medium levels of carbonation. Semi-creamy on the palate, goes down fine and finishes slightly dry. A bitter hop bite lingers and lingers. Fine, but could be a little creamier for the style.

OVERALL: This was excellent. The look, nose and flavor profile were outstanding for sure. A slightly creamier feel would have given the flavor the support it needed for that ever illusive perfect score in the taste compartment, but that is a small and relatively insigificant observation. An outstanding beer and well worth getting your hands on if it's available to you. Thanks again for the trade vissai.

Thank you to AlexS for this 22 oz. bottle. Beer poured a mildly cloudy copper/amber with little head, scarcely a finger, which dissipates fast. Nose was dominated by citrus (grapefruit and pineapple) but also pine and some grassy notes. Caramel malts balance this well and there is little alcohol burn, especially for this big of a beer. The mild bitterness up front does not overpower what else goes on with this and does not linger after. The texture is medium and as well as the carbonation.
All-in-all, this is a very nicely balanced DIPA that I absolutely recommend and wish I had more access to. Try it, if you can!

Got as an extra recently. No freshness date. Served in balloon glass.

Very nice pour with a solid off-white head. Clear, brilliant amber-colored body. Doesn't appear to have much carbonation. The head dies down way too quickly though, and leaves only minimal sudsy lacing.

Aroma is of big bold hops, with hints of blood orange, taffy, and alcohol. I like it. Not really blowing me away though, as this DIPA category is a tough one to compete in. The aroma is big and bold, though I tend to lean towards refined, complex and delicate.

Very very bitter beer, with plenty of hop flavor, pine and citrus. Bitter orange pith on the palette. Sweet caramel malts in the background mixed with a tinge of alcohol. Very robust flavor. It tastes every bit of 9.25% abv.

Rich, full-bodied DIPA with healthy carbonation and a sweet finish.

Not sure I am being too picky here or what. I think the beer is a good example of the DIPA style, but it weighs in fairly strong for me. Appearance was decent, but could have used better retention, the aroma was strong and hoppy, the flavor was rich, bitter, semi-balanced with a rich sweetness, and for some reason I just wasn't impressed. Maybe I'm not into the hops they are choosing here. I recognize that it's well made, but I don't think I would seek this one out again.

A - pours a clear orange with an ephemeral white head. Some lace. No bubbles.

S - outstanding! Big tropical (mango / pineapple) aroma with some moderate danky-ness. I like the dank aroma, but like it even more when it's used with some restraint, like it is in this brew. It does have a little bit of onion in the aroma, but the onion is much less intense than Sculpin and Sucks and more enjoyable overall.

T - is very much like the aroma, tropical flavors with a piney, medium bitter finish and a medium-long sustain. Really smooth 9.4% abv. Basically, a perfect balance of tricky flavors for me. Not as sweet as many DIPAs, but far from being dry. Very enjoyable.

M - medium-full body for the style. Low-medium carbonation. Slightly oily. Pleasant, but firm bitterness that should please any DIPA fan, if not, surrender your DIPA drinker card immediately.

O - this is an absolutely fantastic West Coast DIPA! Enough said.
