A: Solid in color, but opaque, golden with a white head.

S: Citra is very present in the nose, with pineapple, sweet orange, mango and nectarine.

T: Pineapple, orange, mango, sweet and nectary but dry enough to fit the IPA profile. Not unpleasantly bitter.

M: Fullish medium bodied with less than average carbonation for a DIPA which is nice.

O: One of my favorite hoppy beers. If you can find it, buy it.

Draft at Stone Escondido, March 2013.

Pours a hazy, dark golden orange color with dark tangerine edges and a one finger frothy white head.  Excellent retention, slowly fading into a thick, lasting cap.  Glass is left coated with chunks of soapy lacing.

Floral, slightly earthy aroma with subtle resinous pine, grassy notes and faint citrus/tropical notes.  Stronger malt presence than expected but still has a decent hop presence.  Nice complexity in the nose but the malts are a bit strong for my preference with caramel sweetness, toffee, biscuit and graham cracker.

On the fuller end of medium body, oily and slightly viscous with a dank, earthy hop bite up front that provides lingering dry bitterness.   Decent tropical/citrus fruit notes countered by a strong malt backbone.  Strong bitterness followed by grapefruit, pineapple and orange peel flavors.  Maybe some tangerine in there too.  Strong malt backbone with some biscuit, toffee and graham cracker.  Nice balance but the malt presence is a bit too strong for my liking and the hop profile could use more complexity.  A bit thick/full bodies for the style as well.

Pours a hazy golden-orange with a half finger of frothy off-white head atop. The aroma is full of pine and tropical fruit hops including some pineapple and grapefruit. There is some caramel sweetness as well with just a touch of floral elements and a bit of alcohol coming through. The flavor starts off with a big hit of tropical fruit hops with lots of grapefruit flavor and some strong bitterness. There is just a bit of sweet caramel malt flavor coming through for some balance. Through the middle, more of the grassy and pine flavored hops hit the tongue with even more bitterness with a bit of floral flavor. The finish is a mix of mango, pineapple, sweet caramel, bitterness, and a touch of alcohol. Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation throughout. Feels smooth with a dry and very bitter finish that really lingers. This is a big hoppy DIPA. The hop profile is really nice and has a good blend of different hop flavors and the malt is strong enough to keep up well.
