Bottle while in Napa Valley for vacation. White label bomber dated 1-28-2014 and consumed on 3-5-14. Pours a beautiful clear copper with a big fluffy white head that stays around for a while. Bright citrus aroma with a big caramel malt aroma backing it. Lots of sweet heavy caramel grapefruits on the smell here. Flavor is very malt forward with big heavy caramel grapefruit, slightly syrupy, orange rinds. Goodness this is heavy. Not what I was expecting from a west coast DIPA. Pretty good if you like this version of the style, but really lacking the bright citrus and pine I expect from my pales these days. Heavy mouthfeel, slick, some resin, medium carbonation, and really cones off almost syrupy. Not an old bottle at 4 or so weeks, but maybe this goes downhill way quick? A bit disappointed in this one, but not terrible by any means. Can't imagine how malt heavy the black label is.

22 oz. bomber poured into tulip glass

A: Pours an opaque copper/orange, with minimal carbonation and a very thin head. But has a sort of glow to it that just makes it look more attractive right from the onset.

S: Fruity and sugary nose. Hops are there, though not as you'd typically expect from a West Coast DIPA. Overall aroma doesn't emanate as much as other variations on the style.

T: True to smell, it tastes fruit-forward, with some hop resin undertones. But the big takeaway was the malty backbone (again, surprising for a West Coast DIPA, and one called Hopocalypse).

M: Warm, lightly carbonated. It goes down smooth and lacks the hefty body you might expect given taste.

O: Great beer that toes the line between East Coast and West Coast DIPA. If there's anywhere it falls short, it may only be due to its name, which implies "hop bomb," yet that's not exactly what you're getting here. Don't let that deter you, however.

Nearly perfect appearance. Large, four-finger, fluffy, white, foamy, head. Brew has nice clarity with nice orange-yellow colors. Spotty lacing, but not half bad. Nice legs!

Lots of fruitful apricot, apple, light pine, biscuity, light cherry, woody...

Awesome, kickass, smooth, wet, fluid bittersweetness. Intriguing earthy-light pine sweetness... Bready, creamy, easy-drinking. Smooth and simple. Not over drawn. Medium viscosity and smooth medium carbonation. Pretty good burn without kicking the legs out from under you.

Wow. This brew rocks. Very drinkable and fresh;y unique. Not a hop or sugar bomb, at all. Highly recommended. Thanks for the great extra, zhanson88!!!

nice, dark urine color. very foamy white head.
smell is rather weird. strange. funky, but not in a 'brett' way.... bottled on 2/11, today is 3/1. so, it cant be THAT old.... is this the way it's supposed to smell and taste?
taste is definitely strange. unlike anything I have ever had before. I cannot describe it. I've had pliny the younger, blind pig and knee deep citra already today. this is NOTHING like ANY of those brews. and it's rated at 93?
there is a funky sweetness from malts, very little hop bitterness, but a funky twang that carries through. very light body. this HAS to be a bad batch. sorry about the relatively bad review, but this is a dumper.... and I've had some good brews today!
wait. could it have been from the 'brett-y' crooked stave I just had? did the funky sourness ruin this beer? my review is NOTHING like the previous reviews. what happened?
