Drake's Brewing Co. - Hopocalypse, poured into a DFH Spiegelau IPA glass.

Look - Pours a cloudy orange amber with a glorious foamy head that retains a bit. Abundance of lacing.

Smell - Touch of malt. Orange and other dank low-profile juicy citrus hops. Rye.

Taste - Nice malt body with juicy citrus and a nice rye finish.

Mouthfeel - Full-medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Pine and rye. Good drinkability. Not overly boozy.

Overall - Great rye DIPA! Tasty and hop juicy. It'll creep up on ya.

Bottled on 2-11-14 and the Raul man wishes that he could have tasted a fresher batch...but hey, when the prom dress comes off, it comes off.

Assertive like that girl in the office who thinks that she owns the place, but she's cute, so you put up with it anyway. Ok... this is definitely a big boy and it lets you know it. Bits of juice, bits of malt... and they party merrily like a cruise ship that doesn't have plumbing issues.

Raul is into it, but he won't sing to it on its birthday.

Apricot pour that is semi translucent, fluffy one finger head, solid lacing in the tulip.

Aroma is that of graham crackers and candied grapefruit peel, slightly herbal too.

Quite a solid hit of honey graham cracker followed by a counterbalance of grapefruit peel bitterness with a touch of rye spice that lingers about. The 9.3% is well masked in the sweet to bitter swallow. The rye is nicely integrated into the mix, and for those not previously a fan of rye as an ingredient, this may change your mind.

Mouthfeel is medium heavy due to the hefty malt base, carbonation is well done.

Overall, this is a solid IIPA though a touch heavy on the malt base. The flavors are interesting but a bit on the one dimensional side, yet one of the more enjoyable "balanced" IIPAs that I've had.

Attractive amber pour, with a light, silky head. Loads of bright citrus in the nose, less prominent malt than I’ve come to expect from Drake’s. Thick, sumptuous mouthfeel with a lingering bitterness on the finish. Peach, orange, and hop oil dominate the taste, with a firm malt foundation bringing things together and giving the beer heft without booziness.

15 day old bottle

Pours out a clear orange body with a thick yellow tinged white head. Plenty of lace. Head retention is around average.

The nose is full of hoppy goodness. Pine and grapefruit peel are prominent. Some more tropical like flavors of pineapple and such. Malt peeks through sweet, bready, and spicy from the rye.

Big prominent resinous pine flavors. Grapefruit is up next playing a large part like in the aroma. Lighter tropical fruit notes. Just enough complimentary sweet and bready malt comes through.

Pretty full body for a DIPA and the carbonation is a little low which makes for a big creamy feel. Fairly large bitterness hits and the beer finishes slightly dry but is just so mouthwatering.

Really nice DIPA that I'm glad I got to try.
