On tap at the brewery on 8/4/2012.

A: Pours a black body with a well-retaining beige head. No lace.

S: Bourbon, dark fruits, vanilla, oak; this has a promising aroma. I don't think this is barrel-aged Drakonic, as it lacks the signature hoppiness of that beer. It appears to be a different base.

T: Hard to taste what the base beer brings to the table. It has some dark fruit presence at first, but it quickly falls away to deliver a thin, bourbon dominated finish. Completely unremarkable.

M: This is thin; it lacks any presence and falls well short of the body I'd expect from an imperial stout.

O: This is thin bourbon juice. At least it's not unintentionally sour like so many of the other beers in their barrel program.

On-tap @ Library Ale House - served in a tulip.

Opaque, seal brown liquid (hints of cordovan) with an active finger of desert sand/tan foam. Sticky lacing, no legs.

The nose is packed with luxardo, pluots, and other fruity esters wrapped in a gentle robe of bourbon.

Intense flavors - a barage of cherry, wine grapes, leather, tobacco, pineapple, ginger, lemongrass, coffee, loam, currants...evolving on and on. Finishes tart, astringent, and dry with more barrel notes and a hint of roast malt. Low bitterness and moderate heat throughout. Just short of perfect.

Velvety, medium bodied, rich and bristle-y.

Superb barrel aged sour with significant roast flavors as well.

Drakes dark duck.  8%

Dark brown with a violet hint.  Dark tan head with low retention.  Sticky lacing but because the head was low it's not all over the glass...

Aged ximenez vinegar(the good stuff) and chocolate chip cookies along with bourbon soaked luxardo cherries, Uh wow.

Sharp acid strikes in the form of sour cherry and quickly shows it's complexity.  Again aged like aged vinegar there is a massive depth of flavor.  Medium dark chocolate coco shows up and apparently it's spiked with a nip of bourbon.  It's like a very acidic manhattan holy hell!!! Great!!!

Sharp on the back of the throat but sticky on the tongue.  Loong finishing.

Fantastic accomplishment overall, the best bourbon barrel aged sour I've ever had the pleasure to meet.
