Nitro-tap at the brewery's Barrel House Tap Room

A: thick, foamy tan head with glass-coating lacing.

S: wet dog, really the only drawback of an otherwise exceptional beer.

T: tons of chocolate--like a chocolate malt milkshake--dark chocolate shavings add a nice mild bitterness.

M: creamy and smooth as whole milk, wonderfully dry finish.

O: in my opinion this is what Guinness should be. The chocolate was so delicious.

On nitro tap at Tony's Darts Away in Burbank, CA.

Pours an opaque black with a dense khaki head that lasts. Foamy small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, and a slight medicinal aroma. Taste is the same with more cocoa and coffee flavors. There is a mild roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a creamy mouthfeel due to the nitro treatment. Overall, this is a pretty good stout but nothing too crazy.

Pours beautifully. I mean, this thing brings back memories of waiting for my Guinness to settle when I was in Ireland. I didn't wait for it to settle though. I just started in on it. Very nice mildly roasted tones with some chocolate malts in there as well. extremely smooth feel. I think that the body was appropriately light for the style as well. This beer is easy to drink as I finished mine in no time, mostly being due to the fact that it was carrying enough character to keep it interesting, but not bogged down so much that it hampers the experience.

After all these big beers it was nice to dial it back with an easy sipper like this. Their dry stout has a pleasing almost-black/brown color with a thick creamy head. There’s a welcoming roasty coffee aroma to this, with some dark chocolate and a mellow sweet touch. Smooth mouthfeel, creamy flavor, sweet & dry.

A: Pours black with a creamy white head.

S: Roasted malt, dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, in the nose. Simple, like a typical nitro stout.

T: Roasty, maybe some dark fruit, dark chocolate, dark roast coffee, perhaps a bit more complex than a typical Irish Dry/Nitro stout.

M: Full bodied and creamy smooth. That's what you get with these kinds of stouts.

O: Like many other microbrewed Irish dry stouts, it's akin to Guinness, but a bit more complex.
