Notes/Commercial Description:
Rugged yet smooth, Kodiak Brown Ale balances caramel and roasted malts with enticing Northwest hops. Perle and Willamette hops accent without overpowering this American brown ale's intrepid maltiness. The result is uniquely delicious.

On tap from Lynx pizza just outside Denali national park. The color is deep reddish black with a thin rocky head and some nice lacing. The smell is sharp and acidic with a dusty dryness. There are notes of citrus. Mostly, it smells like a new t-shirt. honest. The taste is nicely malty. It tastes of hazlenuts and has a bitter finish. The mouthfeel is nice & tingly, but with enough substance to hold up to the bubbles. The drinkability would be better if the finish weren't quite so bitter. All in all, a nice beer, and one that is more assertive than I would associate with the style.

Pours a murky orange-brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, biscuit, caramel, and nut aromas. Taste is much the same with toasted nut flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of toast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with a nice combination of toast and nut qualities.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a very dark mahogany brown with ruby highlights and a half finger light tan head that dissipates to a thin patchy film and ring around the glass, leaving light slippery lacing. Light aroma of bready and caramel malt, nuts and a hint of cocoa. Flavor of mildly toasted biscuit malt, nuts, hints of cocoa and grassy hops. Medium bodied. A mild, unassuming brown ale that hits all the right flavor notes, but is perhaps a bit low key in flavor. Finish is lighter than expected. Good and sessionable, but not too memorable.

In a pint glass, the beer was dark brown with some red highlights. There was a thick tan head that lasted forever, leaving a good deal of lace.

Mild caramel aroma. Some nuts.

Caramel taste. Hazelnuts. Rather muted.

Decent mouthfeel.

A nice brown ale.
