Rugged yet smooth, Kodiak Brown Ale balances caramel and roasted malts with enticing Northwest hops. Perle and Willamette hops accent without overpowering this American brown ale's intrepid maltiness. The result is uniquely delicious.

I had it from the can and poured one into a pint glass and the other into a mug.
Both pretty much had the same appearance of a hazy brown color with a one finger white to off white foamy head that glistened in the light. As the head died off, a nice spotty lacing weaves itself around the glass.
The smell had a big bready nutty malty boldness. Big and superb.
The taste pretty much copied the smell and had a slight roast to add into the previously mentioned flavors to carry over into the aftertaste. A light dry roasty finish.
The mouthfeel was about a medium on the body with a nice light roasty nuttiness rolling over my tongue. Creamy carbonation follows.
Overall, yes, big win here or at least to me. This is a stellar brown ale! Way to go Midnight Sun.

No canned on date

Look - Pours a very dark brown with cappuccino head. The color at the extremes of the glass is of molasses, no light penetrates the middle. Head dissipates to classic foam film of a brown ale. 4.25 paws.

Smell - Slightly metallic hop character with a definite scent of dark chewy fruit. Figs dates and raisins mingle with a bit of chocolate. Not very robust. 3.25 paws.

Taste - Definite dried fruit of varieties mentioned above, with a dusting of baker's chocolate. Bits of treacle and caramel. Starts very dry but finishes sweet. 4 paws.

Feel - Mild tingle, velvety smooth and seems to lay across the tongue. The taste of baker's chocolate does give it a dusty feel. 4 paws.

Overall - A good brown ale. The metallic scent is slightly off-putting, and detracts from the more agreeable parts of the aroma. Enjoyable, but not extraordinary. 3.5 paws.

Appearance - Pours a deep, dark brown with a muddy auburn tinge. The light tan head peaks at a finger's width and dissipates rather quickly, leaving behind a broken layer of surface suds and a thin ring around the edge. Small, spotty lacing with little stick.

Smell - Milk chocolate and grain with touches of caramel and earth.

Taste - Follows the nose. Chocolatey flavor that is quickly met by a strong grainy character. Unfortunately it dies off about there, with very little development.

Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with light carbonation. Slightly watery finish.

Overall - Not very good. Too grainy and with weak flavor development. Tastes more akin to an amateur's attempt at making a brown moreso than a big brewery's year-round release. Will avoid in the future.

Light brown copper color with a thin head.
Aroma of cocoa, lots of nuts, caramels and licorice.
Flavor with smoked, roasted and nutty malts, biscuit, hazelnut, cocoa, cola and caramels. It has a controlled sweetness. Dry aftertaste with a relatively mild bitterness when compared to its American peers and a long nutty feeling.
Light body with appropriate carbonation.
A rounded Brown Ale with no sharp edges and a clear nutty profile. Pleasant beer to drink.
