A: Pours black with a small tan head, it looks the part
S: Smells intensely roasty along with some coffee and dark chocolate. it smells good but not quite to the point where all you want to do is smell it.
T: tastes of heavily roasted dark malt, chocolate and coffee, most bitterness seems to come from the roast malt though. aftertaste is more roast malt and coffee that lingers for some time
M: slightly light in the mouth for a stout but not too light, carbonation is ample and builds to prickly levels
O: a pretty solid and easy drinking beer. reminds me a lot of fade to black vol 1 by left hand which was a phenomenal beer

Bottle kept in fridge, poured into a Deschutes Snifter.
Received in a trade, no bottle dating on bottle.

A- Wow. Seems over carbonated from the get go. A soft pour yields a pitch black looking beer with rocky, sticky mocha colored head that has some great staying power.

S- Roasted malts, dark chocolate, and dark roasted coffee. The usual suspects here. Smells good.

T- Hello dark roasted coffee. Seems to hit you in the face like the first cup in the morning. Followed by huge flavors of roasted malts, all mixed with a faint hint of un-sweet dark chocolate. Tasty.

M- Would like it to feel thicker. Maybe a high medium body on this one, or an extremely low full body. The carbonation is not nearly as high as the appearance seems. Seems spot on.

O- A solid stout from Midnight Sun. All the way from Anchorage Alaska down to good 'ole Missouri this one is one worth trying.

22oz bomber that clocks in at 7.8%ABV, not the 6 listed here. Poured into a standard pint glass. Pours an opaque dark chocolate color with a thin tan head. Looks like there is some good foam/lace retention on the sides of the glass.

Aroma is dark chocolate, mocha, roasted malts, some coffee, and some milk chocolate malts.

Taste is a very decadent brew--rich, malty, with some bitterness at the finish. Lots of dark chocolate and roasted malts. Also some milky sweetness. Coffee is in there as well. Superb rich, substantial flavor profile. Also has a bit of an earthy quality with some faint notes of dark berries. Caramel notes and roasted nuts round out the tastes.

Mouthfeel is thick and viscous. You can really sink your teeth into this one. Carbonation is just right for the style. A pleasure to let this one roll across the mouth and sample the variety of rich malty flavors.

Overall, this is an outstanding stout. I'm not clear on how it was classified as a foreign/extra stout. Regardless this is a heck of a good stout in all respects. And from what I hear, it's a year-rounder now.

Really nice beer that holds it's flavor.

Look. Black as night. With a frofy heAd

Smell is good but not strong.

Taste is really good with punch of bourbon rolling through not your classic stout but really good

Overall this is a really nice beer that I enjoyed with a gorgonzola ravioli.

Pours a deep dark reddish black color with a 1/2 inch tan head, roasted malt smells & flavors, nice rich chocolate/coffee tones. A very nice stout, one which gets better as it warms up. I would recommend this beer for anybody who likes stouts. Thanks to my Brother for bringing me this from Alaska.

Smell is used espresso grinds foremost, with burnt caramel and fig newton notions playing backup.

Color is pitch black, a gentle pour produced a perfect head telling me this is aggressively carbonated. Head is tan, pillowy and bumpy with generally average lacing. Great looking stout.

There is so much good going on with the flavors here, I love it. If Garcia is espresso, then Wier is dark chocolate. Aside from that, some sips are burnt and almost smoky, while others show their sweet side with toffee and prune undertones. Sharp burnt ashy overtures keep it all in check.

The detractor here for me is the level of carbonation-just too much to let this linger in the mouth or the oils to cling, which in this case I think is a shame. It makes the beer light and pillowy in the mouth, but in this case I want this beer to sit heavy and be itself, pull up a chair, put its feet up.

I really do like this beer. As I said, the carbonation i think really holds it back from being something more. The flavor is, how shall I put it...kick ass.

Appearance – Black as night with a solid amount of brown head. The lacing is nice as it goes down.

Smell – Tons of roasted malt and coffee. There is a touch of alcohol and lots of bitter chocolate.

Taste – Up front it’s bitterer than I expected and I like it. I begin to taste quite a bit of roasted malt which followed by rich coffee, chocolate, and caramel flavors. There is a slight essence of dates as well. Interesting, complex, balance, and pleasant.

Mouthfeel – Viscous enough for a Stout. Carbonation was slightly tingly but as it warmed the flavors began to drown that out. I noticed my mouth felt dry afterwards.

Drinkability – Good but not overly great. I didn’t have problems drinking it but I just didn’t have that smoothness like others.

A very nice beer. I hope to get this again in the future and will make a purchase if I ever see it.

Tasty! This one is really tasty. Kaki head is full to start with but soon fades away. Sweet chocolate starts the taste experience. This being a stout you get your normal roasted qualities. Coffee beans and such. Yeah, those Chocolate dipped coffee beans you get a the drive threw espresso stand. Berries. Tart like the huckleberries I pick from my front yard for my pancakes. This beer is Alaska!
