22oz bottle from itracy63 (thanks man!). No discernable bottling date but appears to have been released summer 2014. Served in a Barrel and Barley teku.

Pours a transparent, deep golden amber with a three finger cap of dense, pale froth. The head settles to a healthy halo and whisps across the surface. Large attractive sheets of lace left on the glass.

Aromas of sweet, wheaty malt, whiskey and caramel. As it warms I pick up some more spicey rye character and a little oaken vanilla.

That rye whiskey is first and foremost in the flavor followed by assertive, sweet, grainy wheat. Caramel, vague woodsy char, toffee, mild rye spiceness, a yeasty, fruity apple or pear quality, very faint vanilla and a good bit of booze. Sweet, grainy and boozey- the way a wheatwine should be with some interesting complexities from the Belgian yeast and rye whiskey barrels. It may seem a bit much at the start but by the end of the bottle I was sad for the experience to be over.

The body has a medium full feel that is at once both sticky and smooth. Carbonation is fairly perky. The finish is consistent with the boozey, sweet theme. Sweet, grainy wheat malts drowned in rye whiskey with some soft vanilla infused caramel.

I like the fact that Bore Tide brings some new aspects to the barrel aged wheatwine table. The spicier rye (versus the more popular bourbon) and fruitier Belgian yeast add some playful depth on top of the solid base of sweet, grainy wheat. I'm very happy itracy63 hooked me up with a couple bottles and looking forward to how much smoother this could be after 18 months or so of cellaring.

Sorry, I don't know much about wheatwines just yet.
But here's what I observed:
Shared in the same chalice with a former BA.
The appearance was a semi-dark brown color with a slight foamy half fingered head. Light lacing pervades.
The smell had a sweet grainy/boozy/wheat blend.
The taste was basically sweet booze.
The mouthfeel was exceptionally smooth and lends a hand to subtle stickiness all over my tongue and mouth.
Overall, uhh...I liked it but don't know enough about wheatwines. Are they supposed to be this sticky sweet? I dunno.
