Notes/Commercial Description:
Inspired by local artist & roaster Michael Allen's eccentricly-named blend of coffee beans, Midnight Sun's brewers designed a beer recipe and flavor infusion process that perfectly captures the alluring aroma, satisfying flavor and curious legend of Allen's Arctic Rhino Coffee Blend.

Arctic Rhino Coffee Porter combines two quintessential Pacific Northwest favorites: coffee and ale. The result is wonderfully romantic and robust--a duel-fueled porter that melds charismatic dark malt with freshly roasted coffee beans.

Thanks to Andrew for this bottle! Bottled in 2nd week of November 2011. Poured in to Founders tulip.

A - Dark black. Half a finger of medium brown head that quickly reduced to a ring around the glass.

S - Heavily roasted malts, dark roasted coffee and some char.

T - Big coffee flavour up front accompanies a slight bitterness. Big roasted malt profile and some lighter notes of char and sweet molasses add depth.

M - Medium body, light to moderate carbonation.

Thanks to cocoapuph for the bottle!

Pours a beautiful black, with a creamy dark tanned head. Nice foamy lacing.

Nice roasted, creamy coffee nose, with roasted malts and some chocolate.

Bitter coffee on the taste, cocoa, roast, some meager smoke/char.

Nice creamy feel, not too light, not to heavy. Adequate carbonation, good feel overall.

Not sure why such he lowish rating...thought this was a great porter with nice coffee.

Thanks again Jeremy!

Poured from a fridge-temp bomber into a pint glass.

appearance - Pours a rich, dark brown bordering on black, with amber & caramel color barely visible when held up to the light. A smooth and steady pour yielded a nice, rich dark mocha one-inch head that was slow to dissipate, leaving decent lacing.

smell - predominantly toasty malts, with a good roasted-almost-burnt coffee aroma lingering. subtle cocoa and mocha blend in to create a pleasant smell, though nothing amazing.

taste - Coffee. Coffee. and more Coffee. Not overpowering, but coffee is definitely the predominant flavor - as it should be. Some coffee porters barely have a hint of coffee - this one nails it. Not overpowering and the malt and mocha flavors pull through beautifully, with an almost creamy mocha finish. There's a bit of lemony sour tartness which balanced out the coffee and roasted malt nicely.

mouthfeel - Smooth and creamy, a bit lighter than i was expecting for a porter. A touch watery - i was anticipating a bit chewier and heavier.

drinkability - Very easy drinking for a coffee porter. Light enough that it could still pair well with foods, but delicious on its own. I 'll definitely be having a few more before the season has past.

Pours dark brown with minimal head floating around the edges.
Definite coffee notes followed by caramel and creamy smoothness.
Taste builds nicely as it warms but never overwhelms. The malt takes over and keeps any edginess under control.
A good beer that I thought at first would session well but slight cloying at the finish would make me want to shift to something else after one or two glasses.

Appearance. Pours a deep dark brown with a half finger of tan head.

Smell. Dark fruits and sweet dark chocolate with a little coffee, smoke and anise.

Taste. Really roasty malts, bitter coffee, some cocoa powder and a hint of molasses. A little acidic. Pretty good.

Mouthfeel. Below medium body with medium carbonation.

Overall. Nice roasty coffee porter. I'd buy it again.

Bit thanks to BigJK for this beer. He went to Alaska, and brought it back, and it was my reward for getting the most stouts correct in the blind stout tasting he held this past weekend. Cheers, Jon.

22 oz bomber poured into my Bruery snifter glass.

A - Pours about as black as you can get with a thin mocha head. The head disipates quickly leaving a little bit of lacing on the glass, but not much. There may be just a touch of ruby highlights, but they're faint.

S - Smells of coffee mixed with vanilla and some rich chocolates. It's good, but Victory @ Sea is still the standard for this style of beer. Everything is good here, just not overwhelming.

T - The coffee and vanilla mix together quite nicely. There is a coffee bean aftertaste as well. It's a good mix.

M - Medium body with maybe just a touch too much carbonation.

D - it's a good beer, and would pair nicely with some desserts. The bomber was easy to finish on my own.
