Poured from a bottle into a Chimay goblet. Really excited to finally be trying this one.
Appearance: Pours almost black with a mahogany hue when light comes through the edge of the pour. There is a half finger of light tan head that fades to a ring around the edge of the glass.
Smell: Sweet roast and dark chocolate notes along with some fruit and spices. I don't smell a ton of pumpkin, but I might just be missing it. The chocolate and cinnamon go together extremely well.
Taste: A lot like the smell. The roast and dark chocolates are the dominant flavor up front, then the pumpkin and spices show up. The cinnamon is a really great addition. The finish is roasty and full of spice. Everything goes together very well.
Mouthfeel: The body is on the thick side of medium and silky smooth. Tingly, smooth carbonation and a dry finish.
Overall: I enjoy the fact that the brewer resisted the temptation to go much higher in abv. I think the flavors worked really well and more alcohol and sweetness wouldn't have helped all that much. I would definitely have another.

Reviewed from notes. The appearance had a dark brown colored body, barely any head but what there is shows a slim film that rises just a tad concavely against the glass and speckles to make some super light lacing. The smell had spices of ginger, nutmeg, and allspice that dance in front of cocoa and pumpkin, the more I let it warm the more clove and cinnamon come out in a roasted almost earthy sort of way. The taste is mainly sweet through the cocoa and pumpkin powering just in front of the spices ever so delicately, nice balancing act of the sweet in front of the spicy for the taste - awesome! slight spicy cocoa aftertaste; slightly dry spicy cocoa finish. The palate is about a medium in body, seems to be more of a sipper but the alcohol remains well hidden. The harshness - what harshness no where whatsoever, but I’m not worried; great for the style and for me. Overall, this is an excellent pumpkin porter.

750 ml bottle poured into a tulip.
Pitch-black with a finger of frothy tan head. A really nice looking beer. I can see my reflection.
The nose is an awesome blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, dark chocolate, maple syrup, and graham cracker. Rich and toasty - almost buttery, but in a good way.
The taste follows, with a strong spice note to start. Cinnamon and nutmeg right off the bat. Dark chocolate syrup mid palate that tapers into mocha. Good stuff.
Mouthfeel is on the bolder side of medium. Slightly viscous. Great as it warms.
Overall, very good.
