22 oz. bottle from Jane's Beer Store in Mountain View, CA, poured into a Firestone Walker pint glass.

A: Dark and opaque, essentially no head with only the tiniest wisps of dark tan foam.

S: Very faint. Mostly malt and chocolate with a touch of the pumpkin, but only if you know it's there and are looking for it.

T: I'm not getting any of the pumpkin at all. Dark chocolate, smoky malt, not a large alcoholic bite.

M: Surprisingly effervescent feeling considering the lack of head, not too heavy, syrupy or thick.

O: This isn't a terrible beer, but I also don't feel like there's much to say about it either. Not very pumpkiny, but not a bad tasting beer.

The beer appears a deep dark brown, approaching blackness, with an oily beige head. The aroma brings chocolate, pumpkin, pie, roasted malt, perhaps some peanut butter? Maybe even chocolate peanut butter cups? Really well done here, with pumpkin character asserting itself late. Lingering notes of sweet potatoes. Smooth on the pallets with alcohol well hidden. A very nice fall seasonal.

Had this on 2013-12-23 in Columbia, PA

A - Dark opaque brown with a short tan head and almost no lacing.

S - Chocolate and a hint of wood smoke. Nice but very mild.

T - Very nice. Roasted grain but not quite char, milk and dark chocolate, cream, cinnamon heat, roasted spice bitterness. There's a unique flavor to this beer and I'm guessing it's partially due to roasting the clove and nutmeg. The spices don't lend a lot to the aroma but are adding complexity to the taste and aftertaste.

M - Medium body and light carbonation. About average feel for a porter. Certainly not thick like an oatmeal stout. Still, appropriate for the style and doesn't detract from the enjoyment.

O - My wife and I both enjoyed this beer. Kudos to the brewer for coming up with a unique twist on a porter with the seemingly-roasted spices.

22 oz bottle (glad this finally showed up here in Juneau, sigh) anyways:

I decided to go for a chalice for the complexities that are supposed to show themselves. Ok, let's do this:

A: dark brown colored body, barely any head but what there is shows a slim film that rises just a tad concavely against the glass and speckles to make some super light lacing

S: spices of ginger, nutmeg, and allspice dance in front of cocoa and pumpkin, the more I let it warm the more clove and cinnamon come out in a roasted almost earthy sort of way

T: mainly sweet through the cocoa and pumpkin powering just in front of the spices ever so delicately, nice balancing act of the sweet in front of the spicy for the taste - awesome! slight spicy cocoa aftertaste; slightly dry spicy cocoa finish

M: medium in body, seems to be more of a sipper but the alcohol remains well hidden, harshness - what harshness no where whatsoever, but I'm not worried; great for the style and for me

O: this is an excellent pumpkin porter, next time I may have it in a pint glass since its an American Porter. I would love to try this on tap if I could find it.
