Notes/Commercial Description:
Intriguing doses of sweet spices, cocoa nibs and pumpkin transform an exceptional porter into a mesmerizing potion. Pour this tantalizing brew into a snifter and experience its many eccentric nuances, which will delight your taste buds.

This is the same award-winning recipe that garnered a GOLD MEDAL at GABF in 2007. Formerly known simply as Imperial Chocolate Pumpkin Porter, we’ve named it T.R.E.A.T.: The Royal Eccentric Ale Treatment.

Appearance: Pours out a moderately viscous looking dark brown color, which appears pretty much black once settled in the glass. About 1" of tan head forms on the pour, which has nice retention characteristics and good lacing as well. Nice looking beer.

Smell: First and foremost, it is readily apparent that the base of this beer is a pretty solid porter in its own right. Good roasted malt character, as well as both bitter dark chocolate and sweeter milk chocolate notes coming out to provide nice balance. Underneath that is when you get to the pumpkin notes, which are light in comparison, with cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice showing as well. Nicely balanced, although would not mind having a little more prominent pumpkin character.

Taste: Nice roasted bitterness up front, with more bitterness being contributed from dark chocolate character. Again, pumpkin flavor is somewhat subtle, with cinnamon and nutmeg being somewhat prevalent as well. A drying element is present throughout the entirety of the beer, presumably from the roast bitterness.

Mouthfeel/Overall: Very nice mouthfeel. Medium-full bodied with an ample amount of fine carbonation. Again, drying throughout the duration of each sip, as well as the finish. Drinks right at its ~8% ABV mark. Overall, a very enjoyable pumpkin porter. Nice balance of sweetness and bitterness. For me the pumpkin could have been more prevalent, but as is, it remains a nice complementary facet of the beer.

Yum! I loved this beer. Just as advertisd- pumpkin, spice, and cocoa nibs. You get a nuttiness from the cocoa nibs as well as a bit of chocolate, some nice creaminess and almost a meatiness from the pumpkin, and it's all complemented by some nice pie spices. This a seamlessly integrated beer. Each component playing beautifully off of the next. Great beer.
