American Double / Imperial IPA |  8.00% ABV

Availability: Fall

Notes/Commercial Description:
CoHoHo begins with generous measures of pale two-row and specialty malts along with spirit-boosters like brown sugar and honey. Hefty doses of Cascade, Centennial and Simcoe hops beautifully balance that outrageous malt bill while juniper berries heighten the festive character of this exuberant beer.

A: Pours a rich, clear dark amber colour, with a creamy, nicely retaining butter coloured head.

S: Malt sweetness and sweet citrus dominate. An herbal note is present as well. Something else that is difficult to distinguish is lingering in the background. Slightly "grassy."

T: Blast of generic bitterness upfront, kept company by an intense malt sweetness. A tart herbal flavour (from the juniper?) really comes out from hiding as it warms. The tart fruitiness is intriguing...

M: High carbonation, with a light syrupy element to the body.

D: Not exactly what I was expecting, but enjoyable none-the-less. If I have this again, I will serve it a good amount warmer (probably 45-50 range) to let the interesting character from the juniper and honey come out.

22oz bomber bottle. Murky brown with a small caramel coloured head of foam. Aromas are floral/citric/metalic hops and deep, roasted malts (caramel?). The taste is too malty for a IIPA, and the hops that do show up in the middle, quickly fade away, leaving a finish mixed with metal and malt flavors. Mouthfeel is medium bodied>thick, and decent. Drinkability is good as well. A decent brew, but not a good IIPA.
