Bomber poured into my tall MSBC glass, the 09 Rondy Brew is a clear golden caramel color with an big off-white head that forms a nice, dense hocky-puck island of foam over the base head, leaving scattered lace.

Smell is light caramel and resinous hops. Yummy, like they used hop keif.

Taste is pretty hoppy, especially for a pale ale brewed last winter. Big west coast hop resin, really more pungent then flavorful, but very satisfying and not just a bitter bomb. Nice malt balance too. This is the IPA the English should be making.

Mouthfeel is super creamy, but with a crispness, medium light body. Heavy on the sticky hop oils, like wine tannins.

Drinkability is really high. Big, robust hop flavor but low, sessionable ABV makes this one a guzzler. The more I drank, the more I liked it. Very nice beer here. Man do I love what MSBC is doing!

2009.

This year the recipe is entirely changed and we are graced with a 4.5% American Pale Ale.

Pours a nice crystal clear orange/amber ale with a good stark white head that has decent retention and good lacing.

Nose is chock full of american hops. Some slight sweetness in the nose, a floral aroma.

Taste is quite hoppy, especially for the style and abv. Nice west coasty hop profile is very refreshing here. A good resiny flavor. Malt profile is lacking just a tiny bit here for the pale ales of late, but in a classic style, it is right where it should be. There are some flavors in here that are quite similar to another M sun beer recently released, but not quite as intense. Bitterness rises toward the finish and culminates in a nice dry hoppy bite. Hops and slight bitter malt lingers on the aftertaste. A very bold and hoppy pale.

Mouthfeel is pretty good. Carbonation is pretty much just right here, and the viscosity right where it should be. However, although nice and slick in the mouth, the finish is a touch drier than I would prefer.

Drinkability is very solid here. At 4.5% this one packs more of a punch than many pales out there. Huge bold flavor for the abv. Very drinkable.

Overall a HUGE improvement with this new style for Rondybrew. The old one served us well, but it was defenitely time for something new (and I'll be honest, something better) A very flavorful, yet easily sessionable pale ale is just about perfect for Rondy festival events. Something with enough flavor to appease the winter palate, yet sessionable enough to keep us all laughing during this crazy fest we have once a year. Another good one from M sun, and nice to see them make a Pale!

note: with a little bit more time on it this one is mellowing out and the slight unchecked bitterness is beginning to go away. Really turning into a fine pale ale.

A - 22oz bomber poured into a pint glass. Pours a pretty massive 2 1/2 fingers of white fluffy head. It retains well and leaves a little bit of lacing. The beer is a clear, golden-orange. There are lots of carbonation bubbles present.

S - Lots of hops in the nose, mostly floral. Sweet malts linger in the background.

M - A light bodied beer with some astringency from the carbonation. Despite that it still has a creaminess to it. Nice and crisp.

T - The malt profile is pretty small in this beer. The hops are much more apparent. Some light malts in the front followed by a good amount of floral hops. The finish is slightly bitter and dry.

For the low abv this is a pretty flavorful pale ale. It's very refreshing and has a great drink-ability, perfect for the upcoming spring.
