They have a good selection of micros here; however, do not even bother asking them to special order something for you, or call you when a shipment arrives. They have told me on three different occasions on three different seasonal beers that they would be carrying that they would call me when it came in . . . . . . each time, I call back a few weeks later and get the disappointing news that the beer, in limited quantities, has already come and gone, with NO CALL to me. I will be finding a different distributor to use for my special orders of $100+/- per case beers!!! Moreover, the oldish women who answers the phone is completely unfriendly!

Cappelli's is a solid beer store. They carry a lot of German lagers, Belgian brews, American micros (including locals/Pennsylvania breweries), and macros (if that's your thing).

This is also the only beer store in the area that I know of that carries Bohemia (German pilsner from Mexico).

Prices are average for the area (around $30-32 case out the door for a solid micro).

The employees are nice enough and sometimes ask if they can help.

Next time I buy from Cappelli's I'm probably going with a variety pack from Church Brew Works or Bell's Amber Ale.

wish they would get rid of some of the junk food and use those shelves for singles like the Rogue selections. Also would be nice if they had a "create your own 6 Pack" selection.

How in the world am I going to come up w/ another 300 words to make this comment take? That is a stupid requirement by Beer Advocate but I guess I will have to play the game.

I went to school 5 minutes from this place and never ever considered it as a place to obtain great craft beer, but I was very wrong. I have constantly been blown away by their selection and the things they are able to get in. Evrything is extremely reasonably priced and some great deals can be found. With the exception of those in charge of the beer inventory, the employees aren't the most knowledgable or the most helpful, but odds are they will try their best to do what they can for you.

If you, for whatever reason, are in Washington, PA and need a case of delicious beer, this is THE place to go.

Seems that people need to revisit this place. I stopped in yesterday to find the largest selection of Belgian imports that I have seen anywhere - i picked up a case of Gouden Carolus Noel and it was very reasonably priced. The craft/microbrew selection was very nice as well - Victory, Bell's, Weyerbacher, Flying Dog, Heavy Seas, Dogfish Head, etc. Don't be fooled by the candy aisle that you must walk through upon entering the store. After you make the left at the end of the candy aisle keep going straight and you will find the Belgians. Don't expect to be in here for less than 20 minutes.

I stopped in a Cappelli's and The Beer Store on my way from Ohio into Pittsburgh.

In Pennsylvania you have places that sell cases and places that sell by the bottle. My experience with the case places is they don't offer the exceptional quality that I was after (specifically Voodoo and East End). Cappelli's was the better of the two case stores in Washington. If you're looking to pick up a large volume of very good beer available in western PA, this would be a good stop. Troegs, Victory, Weyerbacher.. all brands I can get in Ohio so it didn't offer a whole lot for me.

Cappelli's is located not far off of the Jefferson Avenue exit on Rt 70. It is one of the better distributors in the area as their selection is above average, but what is there doesn't seem to be organized in any fashion. I have also run into some bottles that were past their best by date (from the admittedly aggressive with those dates Great Lakes). Selection is this place's best asset, and prices are reasonable as well. Unfortunately thanks to our heavily regulated alcohol industry in PA, you are limited to cases of 24, and there really aren't that many I would put 24 down in a reasonable amount of time. Can't fault this place for that law.

Cappelli's is located on Jefferson Ave not too far off I-70. They have a small private lot on the side of the building that seems to be shared with a laundy mat.

The interior appears to be a convenience store until you go around the first corner and see row after row filled with cases of beer.

As mentioned, there is not a denomination of beer smaller than a 12-pack. This is detrimental if you want to sample different beers but luckily there are some variety packs available. The beers are somewhat categorized geographically. There are beers available from Church, Iron City, Tröegs, Yuengling, Bell's, GLBC etc domestically. As for imports they have a few selections from around the globe.

Service is pretty standard, nobody went out of their way to ask what I was looking for but they were available for questions.

Overall I would probably stop here again based on proximity to the interstate and availability of samplers from PA brewers.

Cappelli's always has a nice selection of brews, including macros, micros, and imports. They usually have at least a few sampler packs from different breweries, such as Flying Dog and Saranac. They have a fairly decent selection of insular imports, especially my favorite, the Scottish Historic Pack.

Service is fine. No one typically asks you if you need help, but if you go up to the counter they'll take care of you.

It's also a little closer to where I live than Pittsburgh, and is right off of the interstate. so the location is excellent for me. It's always clean and is well worth a stop.

The place is located right off the highway.
Walk in through a long isle of candy before the good stuff appears.
Place is very typical, fairly clean and organized. Lots of macros, both domestic and imports.
Pretty good selection of craft/micros with very good prices.
Gentleman the worked there was very helpful and knowledgable.
I good have spent thousands, but couldnt.
The major drawback is the case law, which forces you to make some tough decisions if you are on a limited budget.
Go with a friend or two, and split the cases and bill.

I called here looking for a case of Great Lakes Blackout Stout when I called they said they has 2 cases left. I told them to save me a case and it was waiting for me behind the register when I got there. It was also at the best price around about $4.00 cheaper than the last place I called.

The place was bigger than I would have thought, almost like a Beer World. There was a lot of party supplies there plates, all kinds of plastic cups at good prices.Lots of chips and soda and that kind of stuff.
There was a large walk-in cooler with lot of 1/2 barrels mostly Macro's was mostly what I seen did spot a Spaten. They were stacked up on top a each other. No really sure of the whole selection.

They had a few belgiums Chimay,Hoegaarden,Piraat,Delirum and a couple of others. About 20 different German beers, the usual selection.
Lots of Canadian beers and some other imports.Their was also a decent selection of 5 liter cans

A good Micro selection there was 1 long aisle with both sides Micro's and another aisle with one whole side Micro's and the other side with wine coolers and malt alternatives and the rest of the girley drinks.
The prices were good, some of the Micro's were Southern Tier,
Lagunitas,Rouge,Stone,Bells,Otter Creek,DFH,Anderson Valley,Penn Brewing and lots of Samuel Adams to name a few. A pretty good selection.

Would stop here again, worth checking out.

I stopped here with one beer in mind (Troegs Nugget Nectar). I was in town on business for 1 night and this place was reasonably close to the highway. They had 1 case, pretty cheap ($33). But they had many other PA beers available, lots from Troegs and Victory. Unfortunately Moonglow wasn't out yet, but the guy stocking the place was helpful with information about release dates.

Prices were cheap but minimum quantities were high (PA laws I guess). Worth a stop if you're driving between Pittsburgh and Columbus, you can find lots of beers not available in OH.

Typical mid-PA distributor. Good prices, good selection, average service.

Lots of macros at good prices. Whoop-ee. Good amount of crafts - Brooklyn, Otter Creek, and all the PA fellows (Troegs, Victory, etc) - Whoopie!! Decent selection of malternatives. Bleh.

The service is the only thing that I'd criticise: absolutely no interest in helping me find anything or to get my purchase to the car. Clerk has a tendency to hold conversations with people around the customer while checking said customer out. Ah well.

1/4 mile off I-70, easy to find, easy to get into and out of. Worth a stop or even a trip from the WV panhandle.

Large store, clean, well lit, items store correctly. Very large of selection of local beers and micros. Nice, but smaller selection of Belgians and Germans. Staff was very helpful in finding products in store and were willing to order items. Very good selection of PA microbrews, Victory, Troeg's, Weyerbacher, Stoudt's, Penn's, Yards, Churchworks, etc. The even had a nice mixed pack of heavyweight, Victory Alt 10, and Oskar Blue's Gordon DIPA. The micro selection was much stronger than their imports. The did have Chimay, Unibroue, Bohemia, Delirium. Hugh selection of candy and PA specialities of pickled eggs and meats. One stop shopping for your best beer party.

Capelli's seems to be an old, small CVS converted into a beer store. You walk in, walk through the Hall of Candy, turn left and you are among the beer.

There is an entire isle devoted to Yeungling, two isles for a good selection of craft beers and then another isle for imports. Lots of PA beers, DFH, Great Lakes, Bell's, Brooklyn and many other American craft beers. The imports included van Steenberge, Chimay, Pilsener Urquell, Kulmbacher and a lot of others. Great place to get a good case of unskunked Pilsener Urquell.

But, like most other PA stores, you must purchase by the case. So unless you get variety packs or you want 24 bottles of each beer you buy, you won't walk away with a variety of beers without spending a lot of money ($100+ for a case of Chimay, can't buy it in singles).

The service was quite good and the staff was very helpful.

40 minutes from WVU, Capelli's is the PA distributor that I visit the most. Upon walking into the store, you're funneled down a narrow aisle of candy and snacks to the back corner- turn the corner and a plethora of beer cases awaits. Living in Beer Hell (WV) this sight had me speechless the first time I went.

The craft brew selection is first class. Every time I visit, they seem to be offering one more brewery. When I first started visiting a couple years ago they mainly stocked PA micros, but in the past year have expanded to many other excellent micros from the eastern half of the US, including Heavyweight and Bell's to name a few. This is one of the best places south of Pittsburgh to buy craft brews.

The import selection however is on the decline- I had considered giving a 4.5 for selection, but dropped it to 4 for this reason- their craft brew selection was the factor in keeping it up at a 4, even. When I first started visiting, they had a large selection of excellent beers from around the world. Lately though, aside from some very high-priced cases (Delirium, Chimay, etc), their import stock has been mediocre- consisting mostly of big names like Beck's, Bitburger, Sapporo, and the like. Unibroue selection is down to usually a single sampler case- no cases of the individual brews anymore. Limited release or seasonal imports are practically nonexistant.

Prices are fair- the Beer Store is slightly lower, but Capelli's selection and consistency wins here.

While I've never asked any of their staff about the beers, the staff has always been helpful. Always eager to help, and had multiple cases ready to load into my car before I was done paying.

Overall, one of the best places in Southwestern PA to buy beer by the case.

Cappelli's is a very good place to buy craft and imported beers in Washington. The selection of craft beers includes such favorites as Troegs, Penn, Victory, Great Lakes, and many other good brews. They also have a very good selection of beers from Europe, including a few Belgians. The cases that I have bought there were all in good shape, so they seem to have good quality.

The service is nothing to write home about, though they did help me find a case once.

Overall Cappelli's is a very good place to buy beer in Washington. The prices, however, are higher than at the Beer Store. Cappelli's, though, is kept stocked much better.

Quality/Selection: The quality and the selection of beer is above average. A nice collection of local micros (Penn, Great Lakes, etc) and some regional unique ones (Mendecino, to name one), along with some interesting and out-of-the-ordinary imports (Kostritzer, Lion Stout, Corsendonk, Delirium). Though most of the beer that goes through here is a macro, there seems to be a decent amount of shelf space dedicated to these harder-to-find beers.

Service: Good service, for the most part, though it seems that a few of the employees aren't really well-educated about the craft beer that they sell. Other than that, no real complaints.

Though I generally prefer the Beer Store, their stock tends to fluctuate a bit; at least Capelli's is always steady with what they have. Not a bad selection, and I'd recommend anyone to shop here.

A very nice selection of micro's available here, mostly local but also others from across the nation. Some of which in sampler packs. Sad for me in that the counter man informed me that as a distributor, they are only allowed to sell in volume of 24/case.
Could have spent a small fortune there but ran outa room in the back of the "Jimmy"
If seeking volume, this is the place in the Washington Penn area.
The service was exellent and the staff reasonably knowledgeable about the product.

This distributor seems to have the best selection in Washington County. I have yet to find a better source south of Pittsburgh. Decent supply of the major imports, but don't expect to find anything from Belgium. About 40% of their selection is macros, 25% Imports, and the rest is micros, both local and national. Nothing extremely rare, but Victory, Stoudt's, Great Lakes, and Penn are always well represented. The selection has improved over the last year, as it seems every time I stop in the micros are consuming more space. Seasonal brews are becoming much more common, instead of always having the same selection. Perhaps the best place to buy good beer if you do't want to drive to Pittsburgh. Good selection, great prices, but the staff seems to know little, even though they're eager to please.

*OK, I found the right person to deal with for my beer at Cappelli's. She is very customer oriented and is very efficient. Special ordering beers is no hassle at all, so give them a shot. Service just bumped up a bit, as did selection.*

For the area south of Pittsburgh, like araonh said, this is the one of the best selections around. It is on the main drag, I enjoy stopping by when I am heading down to school (WVU) to see what's new. They were really good about carrying micro samplers Yards, Heavyweight, Stoudt's, Penn, Victory basically all of the major micros in PA. Whoever is ordering the beers knows something, but I asked a question one day and they had no idea what I was talking about. Just got a blank stare down, but hey their imports aren't too shabby either mostly german, but they carry Unibroue sampler and Lion Stout. Just too many macros taking up floor space, but what can I expect this is Washington. Overall, I like this place and they have a pretty nice selection overall.
