The unique casks used for Coffee Maple Medianoche began as Heaven Hill® 10-12 year-old bourbon barrels and were then used to age Vermont maple syrup for over a year. We received the barrels immediately after the maple syrup was emptied and promptly filled them with a special batch Medianoche brewed with even more maple syrup. After 17 months in the maple syrup bourbon barrels, we commissioned the talented folks at Mostra Coffee to design a blend specific for this beer. They landed on a mix of their Brazil Oberon and El Salvador “El Isidro” beans, which were roasted a touch longer to develop more sweetness and a gentle acidity, lending notes of dark chocolate, almond, toffee, and hints of tangerine.

This one pours a very dark black color, with a small head, and not much lacing.
This smells like sweet and sticky maple, caramel, toffee, dark fruit, fudgy milk chocolate, and bourbon.
This is super decadent and super delicious. The maple is the star, even with it only being "added" via barrel. It leads the way, and then gives way to allow the coffee to shine, with some roast, milk chocolate, a bit of fruitiness, and toffee type flavors. I get some oak, bourbon, and even a little bit of coconut, possibly from the barrel. It just tastes so silky and velvety.
This has a very creamy mouthfeel, with absolutely no booziness.
This hits me in all of the right places. This is truly excellent stuff.

Format: Crowler - March 2016
Appearance: Pour viscous like motor oil with no transparency, with a dark brown head.
Aroma: Unrelentingly sweet coffee, maple. Hit's of bourbon as well
Mouthfeel: Among some of the thickest stouts out there
Taste: Coffee, maple, bourbon bomb. It's all there, wonderfully proportioned. The coffee used is very unique, earthy and balanced the maple nicely. The base stout showcases the flavors so well, and the barrel character fits in nicely to give some richness. While sweet it isn't overly so.
Overall: Might be my favorite variant, with coconut being a close second. This is a phenomenal beer. It's so good, but I doubt many nationally will value it enough to make it worth trading to me. It's literally not far from derivation status.
