-2010 vintage, bottle date is smeared. I can read November though. Poured from a 375ml.
Has a beautiful deep rose color in the glass, with a small pinkish-red colored & fizzy head of foam that dissipates quickly.
The nose is tart and sour up front with a touch of vinegar. Lots of fresh, bright cherries in the aroma. Very fresh and attractive, rose petals come to mind. Has a nuttiness of almonds, cherry pits and stone fruit. There's a musty funk behind all this as well. Barnyard and dried hay, with a faint medicinal cough drop, band-aid aroma. Amazing on the nose this fresh.
Mellow on the palate, with low carbonation that doesn't stick around long. All tart cherries on the first couple sips, with a pleasant nuttiness. Plenty of musty funk, earthy and somewhat of a rustic, fruity cheese taste. Woodsy oak flavors begin to develop
as the beer warms and more of the nutty, cherry pit flavors appear. It is somewhat acidic on the palate but, stays in balance with everything else. Kinda oily in the mouth also. The cherries are predominate throughout the whole beer. This is like pure cherries in a glass. From fruit, to pit, to steam, everything all crushed together in liquid form. It finishes tart and a bit tangy, with a little dryness and lots of cherries.
This is the freshest Cantillon Kriek I've had to date. All the Cantillon krieks and Rose de Gambrinus I've had, have been 2-6 years in bottle age and I much prefer this younger fresh versions. The fruit is much more prounced and the acidity is total in balance with the beer. Though it was only a 375ml It never became harsh on the stomach. I feel I coulda easily drank a 750ml of this fresh on my own. With or without food, amazing.
