Pours clear blood-orange with a volcanic, light pink, rocky head.
The smell is deep cherry, light hay (but not too funky) and plentiful citrus tart.
Mouthfeel is appropriately light but it has less carbonation than its cousins.
The citric tang takes the lead on the tastebuds. Lemon sour gradually lets in some sweetness that has the effect of fresh raspberries. Then the earthy cherry flavors provide depth and bitterness that builds towards the satisfying finish. Light hay adds another layer. The finish is not as crisp as some Krieks, but instead provides a long sour note that builds with repeated sips.
Not quite as stellar as the Lou Pepe version, but some of that may be a function of age when bottled and when consumed. Still a world-class example of the style.
