Poured on draught into a tulip glass (2015 version). Appearance is bright ruby red with three to four finger thick head and great retention. Taste has incredible balance and beautiful cherry flavors with a touch of woodiness and Sprite. Sourness is nicely tart without being overwhelming. Carbonation is relatively high with nice effervescence. This beer is incredibly refreshing, flavorful and well balanced. Just about perfect.

December 2015 bottle drank on 4/12/2016

L-dark pink/light red, very carbonated

S-red fruits and funk

T-cherry and raspberry juice. Lots of oak and a great combination of funk and tart. Not overly tart at all unlike a lot of other reviews. Wondering if others had an older vintage. Really an amazing flavor

F-juicy and easy to drink. what more is expected

O-amazing lambic. Great underrated Cantillon offering, however, I AM a sucker for the cherry and raspberry type fruits. Either way, this was delicious

Drops plenty of red notes with a beautiful pink head. Very pretty stuff. Hits lots of mega sour cherry notes in the aroma, a little bit of that spontaneous funk.

Taste was mega sour, prolly a 9 on the 1-10 scale. Good amount of cherry still, definitely not dark cherries here. Very acidic and bitter. Not as juicy as the LP series. What is though. Very little wood in the mouthfeel.

Had last night into a snifter glass, it pours out bright ruby red with a pink head that bubbles up and falls down to a ring, some spotty lacing.

Smell is insta-sour, big cherry note here, little sweetness with a hint of funk. Taste starts with an initial sweetness, then the middle is pure cherry puree, very rich and jammy. Finishes with a very lingering sourness that persists for a few seconds after the swallow, hints of yeast. Body is very bubbly and prickly at first, light in the stomach.

Overall the beer is a bit one-sided, but has a delightfully natural flavor and great sourness.

750 ml bottle poured into a tulip glass

A: Pours a hazy, dark cherry red with a pink head, no lacing, good amount of carbonation, no head retention.

A: Tart, subtle sour, hints of cherry, very funky, must, hay, straw, lots of aromas, though subtle.

T: Up front there is a tart, funk, cherry flavor, sour must, hint of fresh cherries, cherry lingers in the aftertaste, there is some oak, very smooth, very drinkable.

M: Lots of carbonation, dry finish, crisp, light bodied.

O: A well brewed beer, tart, funk, sour, cherry, very enjoyable. I paid $28 for this bottle and I'm not convinced that it's worth it. It's an outstanding beer, well made but I can get my sour fix for much less. I'm very happy to have tried Cantillon.

Pretty red, cloudy, thin line of pink white head. Strong acid nose, blanket and fruit, which the taste follows up with primary sour notes, good cherry highlights. Spiky but pleasant feel. A first for me. So happy I got to give this a go!

Underrated Cantillon offering.

A- Beautiful red colour gives you a tip on what you're in for.

S - Big tart cherry and funk that makes my mouth water.

T- Big sourness, with cherries. Maybe too sour if that's not your thing.

F- Light, nat carb , very nice.

Overshadowed when maybe it shouldn't be. Very nice beer from barn with an incredible stable.

Look - Ruby red, with no bubbles or head.

Smell - My least favorite aspect, a kind of off smelling funky cherry.

Taste - Sour tart cherries, slight yeast.

Feel - Medium body that goes down smoothly because of the lack of carbonation.

2014 bottle into a snifter

L - Pours a deep intense red with huge effervescence and a tall head that quickly falls away completely
S - Big tart cherries with a little funk lurking behind - very approachable
T - Tart fruit with a touch of barnyard. Just the right hint of residual sweetness
F - Light and crisp

Overall an excellent beer - I don't know if it is any better than some of the other top tier Krieks (I feel like it is brighter and has more intensely crisp fruit than 3F), but I wish this came in tallboy cans for hot days! Super crisp and refreshing

On cask at Moeder Lambic. Since it is on cask, it looks and has the mouthfeel of juice. Kind of tastes like cherry juice as well. Not really all that sour. Still, really enjoyed.

As with all Cantillons, the carb on this one was awesome. Drinks almost like a champagne with all the bubbles and big head. You get lots of sour cherry with a good balance of tart with a slight tinge if sweet on the drink. Very very well done.

On cask at Moeder Lambic in Brussels. Beautiful colour, thick, creamy head (the cask being poured properly). Still quite dry, tart, and the fruit flavours are subtle.

Enjoyed 7 Nov 2015 at Novare Res in Portland, ME
Look: Ruby red. Barely translucent. Pours a minor head (1/4inch) that fades but narrow layer lingers throughout the drink.
Smell: predominantly fruit; tart cherry all the way. Very little in the way of Brett or funk. Very pleasing.
Taste: tart cherry dominated but does have a nice sour bite. Definitely a very sweet component.
Feel: smooth in mouth and the sour tinge is closer to an after taste. Does leave a dryness on the back of the tongue.
Overall: amazing cherry sour. Maybe too sweet to be perfect but I can't say I'd change much about this.

Tasted on cask at Cantillon in Brussels. Poured into their stemmed taster glasses. Look is a much darker red than the Framboise's. Cloudy and difficult to get a lot of light through. Gets cloudier as the liquid in the bottle dwindles. Minimal head that dissipates quickly, with a ring remaining around the glass. Smell is the sourness and tartness of both the cherries and the lambic. Taste is again, more sour than their other offerings due to the cherries. In a side by side test I chose LPF for a few reasons, but cherry isn't my favorite additive in anything. On the dryer side. Overall, an extremely fruity beer that was a pleasure to drink, but at the brewery it was up against some tough competition.

Cantillon Kriek 100% Lambic
Lambic – 5% - 375ml Bottle - Bottling date 15 February 2015

Appearance: Red, big bright pink head that dissipates quickly. Low levels of carbonation with a few small bubbles climbing side of the teku glass.

Aroma: Funky, cherries, oak, very pleasant aroma sugar and sour fruits.

Taste: Tart on the tongue, as expected then you get the taste of the oak and then the sour cherries.

Mouthfeel: Leaves palate very moist. Low in both body and carbonation.

Overall: I'm surprising myself with just how much I am enjoying these funky sour beers these days. Being new to the style I find them difficult to describe but I thoroughly enjoyed this one and I think that many people that write off the sour beers straight away do so because they are shocked by the taste but when you know what's coming and are not surprised by it, it enables you to enjoy the experience. I will definitely be buying more of this. 8.75 / 10

Brilliant reddish copper brew; translucent; minimal head.

Tart cherries up front, but quickly the aroma features the musty, funky yeast one would expect. A touch sweet; hay and straw.

Very funky; among the more rustic brews I've had, along with 3F and Fantome. It's a dry, rustic mustiness with a hint of cheese and earth, only laced with a tiny bit of tartness at first.

The finish is like chewing on fresh cherries. The strengths completely flip, with the yeast now providing the soft envelope for the cherries, which are front and center, with plenty of accompanying tartness.

Very lively feel; long puckering finish.

Cantillon Kriek bottled May 2014

Pours a vibrant, ruby red color, with a small pink head.

Smells of an intriguing, leathery tartness, blending directly into the beers ripe cherry quality. Has a pleasant mineralic profile atop of the barnyard funkiness, both highlighting the sweet, ripe character of the fruits. There is also a whiff of tomatoe shrub underneath, accompanied by earthy sherry stem and red wine barrel, completing the wonderful aromas.

Drinks very soft, while a lower carbonation adds a refreshing note to the pungent tartness, consisting of fermented cherries and funky bretts.

Tastes of a glue defined, dusty earthiness, with an uncompromising tart character to it, which gets softened when cherries become noteable, evoking almost a cinnamon impression, based on the richness of the oak barrel synergating with the fruit ripeness. A good amount of white lemon zest goes hand in hand with matured cherries, which turn even moldier during the finish. The beers finish focusses entirely on the prominent cherries, revealing a leather coated stone pit quality with sweet cherry skin to it.

This offers a great cherry depth, featuring a nice crispness during the beginning, which turns more mature, riper while drinking. Exhibits a great interaction between sour funk and fermented fruits, throughout evolving on the palate.

Bottle poured into a small snifter. Pours a deep raspberry, with a thin off-white head. Nose is tart cherry, and palate is dark fruit, cherry, with a hint of balsalmic vinegar. There's also a hint of a sweet aftertaste here. Overall, a deeply complex beer. A treat to try.

On tap at Blue Monk in Buffalo, New York.

This pours a brilliant dark-ish red, with a one inch head, and a little bit of lacing.

Smells like deep raw sour cherry, top shelf kriek all the way. There's some decent tartness on the nose too, and some oak and funk.

This just has that indescribable combo of funk and sour that makes Cantillon so Cantillon. There's a ton of expressive, earthy and dry cherry. There's just a smidgen of oak. It all comes together in a beautifully complex way.

This is light bodied, super crisp and dry, and quite drinkable.

A near perfect beer, just super well crafted.

Drinking this on draft at Zwanze Day 2015. Location: Brouwer's Cafe | Seattle, WA. The color is absolutely beautiful when poured, bright cherry color. Nose is present with sour cherry. The finish is the perfect amount of tartness with an absolutely fresh cherry aftertaste. This beer is perfect.

375mL bottle from ThatCracker (many thanks for my first 'Loon!). Bottled 2/15. Served in a Monday Night snifter.

Pours a cloudy, deep rose with a huge three finger cap of pink head. A tenuous layer of bubbles lingers before shrinking to a thin halo that persists, leaving only a few small pin points in the way of lace.

Smells tart, funky and fruity with plenty of lacto, cherries, hay and some faint sugar.

This smacks the palate with a puckering tartness from the start. Cherry skins, sour fruit, wet hay, hints of wood, tart lemonade and faint leather. A nice sour kick with plenty of cherry and earthiness. Tasty and very easy to drink.

Fairly light body with abundant carbonation. The cherries seem to shine most in the finish along with a lingering tartness and mild earthiness.

My first Cantillon does not disappoint. Not just sour for sour's sake, this has a pleasant depth to it. Based on this I am eager to try more from this legendary brewery.
