Bottled 31 January 2013

Pours a hazy dark golden yellow color with straw/banana yellow edges and a two finger pillowy white head that very slowly settles into a lasting ring. Great retention with streaks of soapy lacing left behind.

Musty barnyard aroma with lactic funk, damp earth, horseblanket, citric acidity and a very subtle acetic character. Strong barrel/damp oak in the nose with cheesy funk, grass, straw, cobweb and sweat. Not too funky however with pale malt, light fruit and vibrant citrus countering the earthier elements. Some bread and biscuit along with apple and a prominent zesty lemon juice presence. No solvent character to speak of. A little tame at this young age but the different characteristics mesh together very well in the aroma.

Medium body with soft carbonation and delicate sourness. Tart and puckering with a decent amount of earthy, lactic funk but not harsh or overly acidic. Dry oak/damp wood flavor but not toothpick-like or overwhelming. Some cheesy lactic funk with musty bugs, straw and earthy grass countered by pale malt, bread, ester-y fruit sweetness and citrus acidity. Really well balanced with biscuit-y malt, sourdough bread, sweet apple and tart lemon juice flavor. Lingering acetic vinegar presence in the finish that leaves me salivating for more. No harsh or solvent-like off flavors to be found. Perfectly balanced and extremely easy to drink which is surprising considering this beer's complexity. Just an overall amazing beer. Exemplary for the style.

Poured from a 750 mL bottle into a tulip. This was bottled in 2012.

Appearance: Pours a quite transparent medium amber/gold and gives a finger or two of head which fizzles away very quickly to a rim around the glass.

Smell: Pleasant floral lemon, citrus rinds, mild peppercorn, grapes. Slight funk as well. Well balanced and very nice.

Taste: Lemon, grassy funk, white grapes, citrus rinds, a nice floral quality. Good amount of sour, but very nicely balanced. Just the right amount of sour in a gueuze for me.

Mouth-feel: Medium carbonation with a medium, dry body. Finish is slightly sour, dry and crisp.

Overall: This is a top notch gueuze. It's strength is it's incredible balance. Very tasty, great aroma and the right level of sour. Definitely a go-to gueuze for all occasions.

Bottle courtesy of Patrick, thanks again!

Pours a bright and hazy gold color with a fine white head.

Aromas are potent, notice them as soon as the cork popped. Lemon, grassy, with some really light vinegar, and a touch of sugar.

Taste is not quite as strong as the nose suggests. Crisp and dry, sour, with a light vinegar, and lactic taste. Lots of lemon, light cream, and a general Belgian yeast flavor.

Mouthfeel is really nice, full, smooth, with plenty of body.

Overall, outstanding. Also comes off as very approachable and drinkable. A classic indeed.
