I think this was Domtronzero

App- A darker orange with a some yellow outlying colors. The head was a bit thin but I was expecting that.

Smell- One hell of a smell. Was a bit rustic, and damp. Had touches of some hay, some tannin to me.

Taste- A very classic taste indeed. Only thing is its been tamed a bit. All classic notes of the hay, funk, damp, wet, however you want to call it, just a bit small.

Mouth- Medium bodied and medium in carbonation. Leaves a nice funky note on the finish.

Drink- A very well done beer. The classic gueuze is hard to do and Cantillon does it very well. I would come back to this anyday.

Brewed in 2005, bottled in January 2008. Poured into a Duvel tulip. Gorgeous translucent gold with a touch of amber. One finger of dense, compact, snow-white head that fades into a partial cap and halo. Thin but solid sheets of lacing. Aroma consists of lemon juice, crabapple, and grapefruit rind. Sour but not really funky. Flavor is similar. Citric acid, big sourness, vinous/chardonnay notes, and an earthy finish that must be from the dry hopping. This beer is medium on the palate with great carbonation. A little sticky but still a pretty good mouthfeel overall.

750ml bottle served in my Allagash tulip. Poured an orange-gold with a quarter inch bright white head with a slightly hazy clarity. Nose was citrus, cork and some french oak. Taste was citrus and a little woody. Mouthfeel was medium-light with some tartness up-front and a consistent background effervescence. Tartness stimulates the salivary glands in the cheeks towards the latter half, before culminating in a slightly dry finish. Nice sour - not over the top and really quite drinkable for the style.

Dry hopped with Hallertau

APPEARANCE: Pours a one finger, medium looking, white head with good retention. Head slowly fades to a nice full wisp. A cloudy carrot orange with medium levels of carbonation evident. Splotchy wisp and ring but no lacing down the glass.

SMELL: Tart lemon, green apples, light notes of vinegar and some floral hop notes. Touches of oak as well. Mild but nice.

TASTE: Quite sour and acidic up front, with lemon and vinegar through the middle into the swallow. Very little funk, but some bitter floral hops and light oak flavors accompany the tart lemon and sourness in the mild finish. Pretty clean and crisp, and increadibly easy to drink.

PALATE: Medium body and medium levels of carbonation. Light on the palate, creamy as well, goes down smooth and finishes dry but not overly puckering. Very nice and refreshing.

OVERALL: This is great. I'm not all that experienced with gueuze yet, but this is one of the more approachable I've found so far. The sourness is balanced well with the hop bitterness, and the feel is creamy and crisp at the finish, making this absurdly easy to finish quickly. A very nice gueuze I will gladly drink again, especially on a hot summer's day like today. Recommended.

S - Hops jump out at first; bit of hay; tart; bit funky as well. Quite wonderful

T - Nice stuff; not as hoppy as suggested in the nose; tart; citric; not that puckering or funky, though

M - Thinner to medium body; a bit chalky and dry; subtler carbonation

D - Pretty darn good drinking as I enjoyed the dryness and lower abv

Overall, definitely worth a look!

Consumed at Stone Sour Fest.

Murky golden color about a finger of fizzy white head. Not a very pretty beer.

Smells of hay and funk. Some tart and zesty citrus notes. Some light earthy hops.

Tart apple notes, zesty citrus, hay, funk, pretty bitter and hoppy for what I'd expect.

Zesty, sharp, light in body, but super well carbonated making it seem a little fuller.

Yeah, just zesty tart and bitter goodness.

2009 750ml caged and corked bottle

Appearance: The body is btw straw and golden yellow in color with a slick appearance. Carbonation is minimal, the head is an off white 1 inch crown that shows little retention and leaves little lace.

Smell: Hops, barnyard funk, and a touch of urine soaked hay.

Taste: Same as nose. I had heard that the recipe was different for the new vintages (hops addition) and thats why I tried this bottle fresh. I figured lets try it while the hops are shining. Well the sourness/tartness is minimal when its fresh but it fuses nicely with the hop treatment. Different and well done.

Mouthfeel: On the lite side of medium bodied with minimal carbonation.

Drinkability: Low abv and not very sharp....so easy to drink.

If you are looking for that classic "Cantillon Sharpness" that will make you pucker, this isn't the right Cantillon for you. This new recipe is quite sessionable.

Poured into a 6oz wine glass at Monk's Cafe in Philadelphia.

Pours a golden yellow with more head than I've ever seen in a Cantillon beer. Monks seemed to be having difficulty with this tap as it took a while to pour due to the gushing. Aroma of Fruity citrus hops blended nicely with Cantillon funk and tartness that I found preferable to the Iris I had tasted a few days prior.

Initial blast of the dry hopping provided flavors of summer fruit and lemon. Apricot and peaches quickly turned to a violently acidic finish. More acidic than sour leaving a slight burn in the back of the throat. Left me satisfied, but not smitten. Despite not being totally blown away, a tasty lambic that I would happily drink again and again.

I have an '07 in the cellar that I'm holding for the next Philly sports championship. Hopefully will not have to cellar much longer as I'm not sure it will hold up well.

Pours a lightly hazy golden with a finger of what head that faded into a good long-lasting collar. I’m getting a lot of stone fruits on the nose and palate including apricot and peach. The taste is full of more citrus notes than the nose let on. Earthy spice and a bit of yeasty funk balance out the fruit and lend some tartness to the mouthfeel. The finish is very dry, and I’m getting some citrus rind bitterness in the aftertaste. Low carbonation, tart dry mouthfeel, medium body. Another great Cantillon, I need to get my hand on some of this stuff. Thanks again Russ.

A: Poured a hazy golden yellow with a fizzy white head on top. Decent retention leaving a thin white cap on top. A small amount of random lacing formed on the glass.

S: Extremely funky, not very fruity like other Cantillon gueuze I have had. Very barnyard/musty with some faint lemon and grass.

T: Much more like it! Plenty of citrus fruits, some lemon, peach, green apple. and apricot. As it warms the flavors intensify a bit as does the sourness of this gueuze.

M: Slightly lighter than medium bodied, tart, but not overly so. Very drinkable. Flavor much better than aroma imo.

O: Another great gueuze from Cantillon, though I preferred classic and Monk's to this one.

I had this bottle at Max's Belgian Beer Fest.

Appearance: Pours straw golden and is very slightly cloudy. There is a two finger very fluffy white head of which a good size layer remains throughout.

Smell: I pick up a bit of barnyard/straw, and some sour citrus. There is also an herbal quality as well as some spice from the Belgian yeast.

Taste: Again there is a bit of a barnyard/straw type taste. I'm picking up a lot of sour vinegar and citrus notes. There is some spice from the yeast and a quite bitter finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium body and super dry. There is a medium amount of carbonation which is quite light.

Drinkability: I enjoyed this one a lot and it was worth the price. I would love to have more if I ever get the chance.

Bottle picked up at Ølbutikken in Copenhagen (Cuvee Saint-Gilloise label)... Poured into a Cantillon glass.

A: hazy orange; thin, white, spritzy head; no lace.

S: earthy; citrus peel; some vinegar notes and funk.

T: follows the aroma; as it warms it gets even tastier; peach.

M: light feel; high carbonation; refreshing.

O: very good; quite drinkable, too.

Had at Max's Belgian Fest.

Appearance: hazy orange yellow color with a short one finger head that falls immediately. No lacing develops.

Smell: muskiness is up front and dominates the nose.

Taste: strong initial sourness that mellowed after the tastebuds got accustomed to the flavors. Sour and tart grapes, tart green apples, fruity sweetness, and some mild bitterness wrapped in a musky barnyard blanket. Extremely dry beer.

Mouthfeel: smooth and very dry throughout. Long sour aftertaste. Medium bodied.

Drinkability: decent despite the strong sour flavors. This beer grew on me during the session, and the taste score rose as it warmed. Very interesting on tap.

2012 vintage, bottle date being 6-27-12. Had a small sample of this (different vintage) at Ebenezer's a couple years back, wasn't sure I'd ever get to try this again/4 realz. Thanks to cbutova for breaking out the big guns for his 1000th review.

Pours a hazy peach orange color. A white head retains pretty well, eventually turning to a thick ring+patchy cap near the end.

Nice buggy funk, lemon, sour fruits make up the scent. Nice potency.

Taste follows suit, lemon, oak, socky funk, some sour citrus, some white wine-like notes. Pure smooth Cantillon, not over the top in any way, an easy drinking gueuze.

Very smooth, medium carbonation, pleasure to drink.

Definitely not as in-your-face as most Cantillons, but that is the appeal for this beer in my opinion. This is probably the smoothest, easiest drinking beer I've had from them, yet it doesn't sacrifice their signature flavor profile to do so. Awesome stuff.

Glad to find this On-Tap at Teresa's Next Door, I've had this out the bottle before the name change.

Champions came in a flute serving looking muddled/pale yellow almost like straw. A nice amount of white fluff on top. Small legs for stickage, there was not much.

Smells a bit funky, with light wood, some small earthy hop scents in the middle giving off grass. A small amount of barnyard and the Cantillon scent, which is basically goodness.

A nice amount of sour with a heaping of barnyard hay and grass. Earthy scents, earthy hops. This is dry hopped and it does make a difference from other offerings from Cantillon. After the initial sour barnyard, slight hopping, a bit of earth and wood and funk.

It's lively, especially off the tap, very refreshing. A little bit of everything. Light bodied and dry finishing. Very easy to drink but at nine bucks A flute I cant drink a bunch, I wish i could of had more, and I will.

Pours out a hazy gold with a big white head in a Cantillon tulip.

An inviting aroma of lemon, orange, hay, earth, wood, and spice. Seems a little fruitier than most unfruited lambics I've come across.

Nice drinkable level of tartness. Lots of that lemon tartness. Grass and hay. Light cheese and spice.

Drinks smooth with light carbonation.

Easy drinking yummy beer.

Continuously poured from a 750 into two Russian River tulips, then dumped the yeast into a taster glass. This is the 2010 Cuvee St. Gilloise labeled one.

Pours a murky golden yellow color with a quickly dissipating head. The color really pops in the light and once the beverage has been drank down, it begins to have some clarity. No lacing, no legging.

The smell begins with tart lemons and loose, dank hay with a lactic quality to it. As the beverage warms, the acidity really comes out and once the beer is at room temperature you can really feel a tingle in your nose from it.

Taste opens up the palate with a citric-like acidity, profiling lemon and lime like flavors that quickly flow into a cheesy bit of funk and hay flavors. Not overly funky at all, much more subtle than a gueuze by other blenders but enough funk for the seasoned lambic drinker to pick up on. After flavors of an unsweetened lemon candy. Almost like a made from scratch lemon bar, with emphasis on the lemons. Refreshing, to say the least.

Mouthfeel is outstanding. Medium body with moderate carbonation, some drying as well once the brew is swallowed.

Overall, a great gueuze from Cantillon. This one is dry hopped, but I did not pick up any of the dry hopping which is most likely due to the age of the beer, being bottled 10/4/2010. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone looking for an acidic gueuze that retains its drinkability. Not perfect, but definitely a solid example of the style.

Bottled Jan 29, 2010. Big thank you to alpineclimber and wordemupg for bottles of this. You guys are awesome traders and keep me in the funky sours that I can't get here ...and I do love my sours.

Appearance. Pours a hazy gold with a finger of fluffy white head.

Smell. Woody funk and sweet hay, a little vinegar, some lemon, apples and even light stone fruits.

Taste. Nice lemons, minerals and earthy herbal and even hops, fresh hay, and a very light floral perfume.

Mouthfeel. Medium-light body, medium+ fine and fairly soft carbonation.

Overall. Very nice, as usual with this brewery. I'll enjoy trying a well aged bottle of this at some point.

Pours a hazy deep golden tone, with a good half-inch of dense foam. Coloration is fairly saturated and bright. Aroma is of wet grass and sharp citrus, orange at first, becoming sharper lemon once it sits for a bit. Melon is also apparent.

Carbonation races, it's fairly spritzy and prickly in the mouth at first. Cidery with subdued acidity, with a dry residual aftertaste that hints at hops. Character is mellow only in it's lower acidic sharpness than other Cantillon Lambics. Not as funky or "farmhouse" either, it's bright and straightforwardly citrusy.

Paired best with a Morbier cheese and pears. Shared this with some euro soccer fans, but it would be a treat to have a bottle to myself...

Poured from the bottle at Churckey DC during Zwanze 2013 into snifters. Double helping woot!

Dull and opaque lemon body, with some deep orange center. Not much head given or presented.

Oh my god the bouquet on this brew just absolutely rips! Giant sour peach and pineapple topical fruit. Wonderful. Juicy. Quenching. Salivating. Mild funk aromatics hit the back but I litterally feel like I just ripped open a peach or sliced a fresh pineapple in front of me. Exquisite.

Palate seems less of a surprise, since the bouquet is so grand. The fruit notes hit nicely but come with a slightly wet body and feel. Light pepper finish and mild to moderate funk, with the acid a little downplayed. Watery finish unfortunately, but some good yeasty stickiness to match.

Overall I smelled this brew more than I drank it, if that's possible, but it's go some incredible impressive character.

Opaque gold, very murky, a nice sight color wise, but unfortunately a quickly departing head. Aroma feels surprisingly sweet, as always well presented on a sweaty and leathery dominated wild yeast top ground. More floral than most, thanks to those untamed hops. It develops a pleasant horsey saltiness as it gains temperature. It’s hard to explain how those hops blend in with the rest, but it creates a cheesier character than the yeast alone would I feel. Abundant grapefruit taste. Strong big bubbles, surprising considering the small shape of the head, pretty full bodied as well, I like that. Oldish taste despite the fresh aroma. Sweet and easy drinking proposing a lemon slice here and there that grows into a pungent tartness reminiscent of a straight lambic. I kinda dig the balance, but it doesn’t stand out as one of my favourites, I just like its originality. A dessert lambic? Why not!

Bottle courtesy of freud, 375ml into a tulip. Review 600, label indicated this is the Cuvee Saint-Gilloise. Bottled January 29, 2 Pryed the cap off and there was a bit of fluid on top of the cork, and the cork came off with a light hiss.

Pours a light orange-gold, with a finger or so of bright white head. Carbonation isn't outstanding here, but there's some lace left in addition to a bit of head retention. Nose was prominent as soon as I popped the cork, tons of lemon and sour green apple, a hell of a lot of funk. White vinegar and a load of acetic acid. Love the funk and some semblance of barrel here. Taste wasn't as tart as I had expected, still more raw green apple and pear, Cantiloon funk, a touch of barrel and notable acetic acidity. Some interesting sweetness mid-palate, but a tart bite finishes off the palate. This gets more and more complex with each sip, each revealing the characteristics of this gueuze in a different tone. Quite a light body, with a fairly modest carbonation, not as effervescent and zippy as some others, but still works well for the drinkability. Still very nice, and something that I wish I could've enjoyed on a warmer day! A nice gueuze, thanks Fred!

Why is this even listed? This is the same damn beer as the cuvee des champions.

On tap at churchkey.
Pouring a hazy orange with a thin white head that recedes too quick, this looks decent. Imo, cantillon beers look better out of the bottle. The last vintage of champions was a screamingly good beer, and this 2010 vintage is close. The dry hop character is immediately noticeable, bright, vibrant, earthy, lemony, quite old world in character. Behind that lies a gentle cantillon funk with the usual suspects- grassy, barnyard and a little stilton cheese. Nothing like a wet dog or horseblanket though. Refreshing. The palate opens bright and vast with moderate acidity, with lemons and a touch more vinegar than i remember this beer having. The hop character is quite pronounced, reminding me of a good, grassy pils. Great balance. Drying and lemony on the finish, this is great stuff. Maybe a touch overcarbonated? I also get a light aspirin character. All told, a beautiful beer. While this might be a weaker vintage, i look forward to meeting jean van roy in a couple of days!

Pours a nice hazy golden orange with a decent amount of white head. Smells tart and sour. Lots of hops and sweet sourness. Tastes sweet with a mild tart kick. The tartness is fairly subtle. Overall incredibly drinkable. Nice carbonation levels. A great drinker
