Labelled St Gilloise. Sent to me by my friend in Calgary. Split with my girlfriend.

A - Cloudy deep orange pour. One finger fluffy white head. Spotty lace, half finger retention.

S - Orange, vinegar, alcohol, dusty, lemon candy. Pleasant.

T - Acidic, way less tart and sour than expected, orange. Less complex than other Cantillon beers.

M - Medium carbonation, sweet and tart with a funky grape finish. Medium body.

O/D - OK. Definitely a letdown based on the reputation and my experience with Cantillon. Tame in all respects for a beer from them. Definitely not sour. OK, but certainly wanted more.

Appearance: Arrives rather cloudy, the honey colored liquid lacking any cap; no lacing

Smell: Rather cheesy, with hints of hay, peach and pineapple

Taste: Tartness dominates from the outset, with a range of subtle citrus, tropical and stone fruit flavors developing, in the middle; the cheesy funk builds a bit, after the swallow

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with low carbonation

Overall: A really nice Geuze; I like the impact of the hops but it is the funk that makes it

Very opaque, no head.

Noise is strongly of vinegar, some sweetness underneath? Funjy.

Taste its bit nearly as acidic as i would have thought. Sourness is 6 of 10, and much more pronounced on aftertaste. Acidity really lingers.

No real hint of the dry hops, very funky.

This was delightful, not nearly as acidic as the regular gueuze, it seems as if the hops really moderated some of that. The hops are very subdued, I really couldn't detect them all that much, they may have muted some of the vinegar in the nose.

Wow, a HUGE thanks to merc7186 for breaking this bad boy out.

a 2012 cork date on this bottle.

Pours a cloudy yellow with a finger of off white head.

Smells of old damp basement, stinky cheese, and a bit of sweat.

Taste is interesting, a tartness quickly washes over the tongue, followed by a peach and apricot flesh taste. Following this, a quite hit of tartness, and the it fades to almost nothingness. After a few seconds, a cold root cellar flavor emerges, almost like moist underground dirt.

As the beer warms up, the flavor profile opens up, allowing for more fruit, along with the tartness to expand a bit and a subtle hop sharpness as you swallow, which then once again fades to cold dirt basement floor. The mouthfeel also opens up, become soft and smooth.

Overall, a super enjoyable beer, one I would absolutely drink again.
