Poured from a 750 mL bottle into a tulip. 2012 vintage. From notes.

Blåbær has a blue violet hue and is moderately transparent around the edges. There is not much carbonation and barely any head; there is just a small off-white cap.

The main aroma is blueberries, although the smell is not that strong. There are some tart and funky notes that give it a little more character.

The flavor reminds me more of tart blueberry skin than the whole fruit. It has that kind of hollowed out flavor to it, like there should be a more robust fruit flavor. Because of that, the flavor does not really change that much over the course of the sip and lacks much complexity. The blueberry has just a touch of sweetness to go along with its moderate tartness. There are some funky nots, and a bit of dry, oaky tannins to go along with the tartness.

The body is only somewhat sour and acidic. The lack of sweetness or real punch, combined with the light carbonation, make it feel duller on the palate than it is, with a medium lambic body. There is just a bit of dryness at the end of the sip.

Considering I was dying to try this for a long time, it did not meet my expectations. There are other Cantillon lambics I prefer.

2013 bottle

A - Ruby red body with a light clean white head to it

S - Blueberries, sweet tarts, blue cheese and barnyard funk

T - Really funky with lots of blue cheese and barnyard, not tart as all but instead is all funk. Light tart blue berries but barely blueberries or tartness to it. It was a pure funk bomb

M - Really dry and slightly watery body. A slight thickness from the funk remains on the tongue kinda like the creamy layer that remains after you eat some blue cheese

O - Not that impressed and thought this was really overrated as this was one of my least favorite Cantillon to date. Really a funky beer but not much tartness or fruit flavor to it

Huge thanks to danieelol for sharing. 375mL bottle split 4 ways. Reviewed from notes.

Gorgeous crimson with a surprisingly resilient small white head which picks up some of the colouring from the beer. Abates to a collar. Looks lovely.

Nose shows delightfully honed acidity. Surprisingly modest blueberry but beautiful integration. Lightly musty, musky and tannic.

The base Cantillon gueuze is quite conspicuous. Blueberry is again mellow but seamlessly integrated. Base gueuze notes of jalapeno and lemon are well represented.

Assertive sourness but definitely much reduced compared with most other Loons. Mild tannins. Satisfying and great drinkability.

Only had about 3 oz which probably biases my rating downwards, as this seemed uncharacteristically subtle and restrained (for Cantillon), the sort of beer that takes a bit more volume to deconstruct.

2012. Thanks to Owen for facilitating this acquisition.

Pours a beautiful raspberry colour with nice white head. Glorious red as though it was made with raspberries. Nose is lactic funk, wine, blueberries, creaminess, some subdued perfume, little burnt rubber.

Taste is grapes, red wine, creamy, dried oak, almost oyster-esque decadent sourness and drying finish.

Mouthfeel is drying, oaky and champagne-y. Similar finish to most Cantillons.

This is not a let down and totally worth it. Perhaps rating a bit according to the occasion but still deserving of praise.
