2011 Vintage 750ml, poured into a Cantillon tumbler. Review #200.

It pours a lovely apricot-orangey-peach color, very murky, even with a slow pour. Lots of bubbles racing around the glass. A nice offwhite head races up the glass but recedes just as quickly leaving no lacing or head retention. The aroma is fantastic, tons of fresh juicy apricot, peach fuzz, vinegar, funk and yeast. The fruit character of the aroma is just outstanding and perfectly inviting. The flavors are superb, the apricot flavors are super nice and juicy, tart, not overly sour. A little more acidic than I'd like with a high presence of vinegar and funk than the nose suggested. Some woodiness is definitely present as well. The body is good, a bit sharp, but nice and playful on the tongue. Carbonation is high yet the beer remains juicy.

Verdict: Fantastic lambic from Cantillon. Probably my favorite lambic they make. I've had older vintages, which are very special, but something about the fresh fruit is just so perfect.

Bottle poured into wine glasses and split amongst a few friends at 33wine. Just missed having this bad boy on draft.

A - Pours a a yellowish straw tinted color with minimal head surprisingly for this beer. 1-2 finger white foam had that slowly recedes back into the glass. Somewhat cloudy but clears up after resting in the glass

S - Smell is of loads of apricot, definitely some straw and hay aromas coming through on this. Hints of white peach coming through.

T - Taste follows the nose on this one with loads of apricot not he front mixed with a nice balance of lactic acidity, some hints of the straw flavors with mixed notes of earthy funk and wood.

M - Mouthfeel is about perfect on this one. Not too light but very crisp and smooth at the same time. Fairly dry

O - Overall this has been my favorite Cantillon thus far. Will be seeking this one out so that I can dome a bottle myself.

Poured from a bottle into a D'Achouffe tulip. The cork (which was quite difficult to remove) says it was bottled in 2013 and is lot C12345. Not as carbonated as I would have liked, but enough to get the job done. Somewhat clear, dark gold in color with a massive billowy white head that dies off very quickly. The nose carries lots of stony dry champagne-like notes, lots of mustiness, apple cider, apricots, and a hint of pear-like sweetness. Very pleasant and complex.

Very light body and sharp, tart flavor. Light, dry, cracker-like grain up front with a hint of kiwi-like sweetness, then a prompt rush of sour fruity flavors. Lots of complexity here. I get sour apples, apricots, lemon rind, dry white wine, green grapes, vinegar, and apple cider, all wrapped inside a mild mustiness that has a muted impact on the flavor. The finish is as dry as the Sahara, yet somehow the tartness softens in the back of the mouth without compromising the flavor. Very sour, yet very drinkable.

Overall, a stellar sour. I usually prefer sours with a noticeable amount of balancing sweetness. I can't remember the last time I had a beer this sour that I enjoyed so much. I can see why BAs seek it out, but at this price I probably won't ever buy it again (or if I do, I'll trade it to someone who's never been able to find it). Not recommended for those new to sours. If you're new to sours and you happen to stumble upon a bottle of this, do yourself a favor. Stash it somewhere and explore several other sours before drinking it, otherwise you may not enjoy it and could possibly waste your money (and the beer).
