Poured from a bottle into a D'Achouffe tulip. The cork (which was quite difficult to remove) says it was bottled in 2013 and is lot C12345. Not as carbonated as I would have liked, but enough to get the job done. Somewhat clear, dark gold in color with a massive billowy white head that dies off very quickly. The nose carries lots of stony dry champagne-like notes, lots of mustiness, apple cider, apricots, and a hint of pear-like sweetness. Very pleasant and complex.
Very light body and sharp, tart flavor. Light, dry, cracker-like grain up front with a hint of kiwi-like sweetness, then a prompt rush of sour fruity flavors. Lots of complexity here. I get sour apples, apricots, lemon rind, dry white wine, green grapes, vinegar, and apple cider, all wrapped inside a mild mustiness that has a muted impact on the flavor. The finish is as dry as the Sahara, yet somehow the tartness softens in the back of the mouth without compromising the flavor. Very sour, yet very drinkable.
Overall, a stellar sour. I usually prefer sours with a noticeable amount of balancing sweetness. I can't remember the last time I had a beer this sour that I enjoyed so much. I can see why BAs seek it out, but at this price I probably won't ever buy it again (or if I do, I'll trade it to someone who's never been able to find it). Not recommended for those new to sours. If you're new to sours and you happen to stumble upon a bottle of this, do yourself a favor. Stash it somewhere and explore several other sours before drinking it, otherwise you may not enjoy it and could possibly waste your money (and the beer).

August 2013 bottling. Teku glass.
A: Pours an apricot-tinted straw color, with a generous finger of fine, foamy off-white head. A solid cap sits on the surface for a good few minutes. Very good clarity and some champagne-like bubbles.
S: Sweet apricot flesh, hay, some nice supporting spice character (oak, cinnamon, and vanilla frosting-like), apple cider, and a moderate dose of earthy barnyard. The apricot is deep and very well integrated, but by no means dominant, which may be a plus or minus.
T: Bretty earthiness up front, with mild apricot, just a touch of tartness, finishing bone dry (with some of the tartness carrying through) with more earth/herbal notes, as is common to Cantillon. The flavors are well integrated and interesting but pretty restrained.
M: Medium body and medium-high, slightly sharp carbonation.
O: Highly drinkable, nice subtle flavors, and good complexity. Though it’s tasty, I don’t quite understand the fascination with this beer. I’d prefer St. Lamvinus or LP Kriek by far.
