Cantillon 2011 Fou' Foune

Poured into a tulip glass from a 750ml bottle.

A - Pours a delicious slight peach colored yellow with some nice haze. Slight straw gold liquid. There is a nice 0.25 inch white head that is quite lively and fizzy. It recedes fairly quickly. (4.5)

S - Aroma is delicious. Pure apricot juice comes up quick to the nose with some delicious juicy sweetness and some nice yeast funky. A bit of spice is present as well as a clean woody back. Slight tart notes. (4.5)

T & M - Very refreshing and delicious lambic. Starts off with some nice apricot sweetness, slightly sugary then followed with some nice tartness that comes up quick and balances the sweetness. There is some slight salty notes as well. Slight vinegar but just slight. There is some nice slight yeast funk mixed in with the woody notes that lay in the background behind the delicious balance of apricot and sour notes. Motufheel is light and crisp. Refreshing and delicious. (4.0)(4.5)

O - Awesome lambic. The apricot is delicious and blends well with the sour notes and also with the yeasty funk. Very nice (4.5)

Thanks to AgentZero (Mike) for busting this out at his birthday tasting. 2007 vintage.

Appearance – Pours into a tulip with a radiant orange color. About a half finger of off white head is achieved that dissipates quickly leaving slight lacing.

Smell – Woohoo. Heavy barnyard funk, still plenty of apricot. Oak, lemon zest, wet hay. Very musty and funky.

Taste – An immediate puckering. Light acidity, earthy funk, plenty of apricot (though not as noticeable as when I had this fresh). Slight vanilla oak and more tartness.

Mouthfeel – Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, finishes dry.

Overall – Just a fantastic beer. I traded one of these away earlier this summer and am kicking myself for it now. One of the better Cantillon’s out there for sure.

2010 on tap

Pour was a pale murky orange, hints of grapefruit juice. Inch plus of creamy white head, held its place.

Soft apricot with light sourness. Slightly funky.

Taste is similar. Apricot is soft and subtle, but there. Nicw light sourness up front. A bit funky throughout, blends well.

Light and easy, airy body with a bit of pucker.

Pretty amazing, would drink over and over.
