2013 Vintage reviewed live.

A - Light straw with solid carbonation.

S - Funk centric, rose petals and slight tartness detected too.

T - Green pepper, Tabasco and rose petal. Green apple sourness and light oak.

M - Light, refreshing, drying finish.

O - Phenomenal, but probably my least favorite Cantillon thus far. The green pepper tonasco flavor really threw me off.

750ml bottle. 2013 vintage bottled on June 26th 2013. Served in a wine glass.

Appearance: Pours a light golden yellow/orange color with 1 finger of a white head that settles to a lasting white ring. Body is hazy with some light amounts of visible carbonation.

Smell: Big floral character, honeysuckle, grassy, green peppers, herbal, oak with some lemony tartness as well. Less sour and funky than most other Cantillon beers I've had. The aroma is really unique, unlike any other beer I've experienced. It's strange but at the same time inviting.

Taste: Follows the aroma closely. Typical Cantillon bright lemon sourness upfront followed by the same floral, grassy and general green character as the aroma. Strong general herb character as well along with a light bitterness in the finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, soft creamy mouthfeel. Carbonation is on the high end of medium.

Overall: One of the most interesting beers I've ever had. The flavors imparted by the elderflowers are unique and unexpected, but they end up working well with the base lambic. A bit less drinkable then most other Cantillons but still a great beer that's worth seeking out to try at least once.

Date: 2013 vintage
Glass: Cantillon stem glass

A delicious lambic, and perhaps one of Cantillon's more underrated beers. Mamouche is an aromatically floral beer with strong sour undertones, with a flavor that reverses this. Not as cripplingly sour as some others from Cantillon and other breweries, but this lets the flavors of the elderberry flowers express themselves a bit, as well as the remnants of the malt and oak. A bit sad that it's one I may only be able to enjoy once in my life given the difficulty in obtaining this.

Pours a 1.5cm tall head of white foam, composed of small-sized bubbles and yielding a frothy appearance. Retention is about average, the foam lasting slightly over one minute in a decline to a thick ring around the perimeter of the glass and a large, thin island of lace atop the body of the beer for the duration of the drink. Lacing is minimal, a few small dots cling to the walls of the glass. Body is a dark, cloudy, golden yellow color, with light bringing out pale yellow hues. Carbonation visible through the nearly opaque body (80-90% opacity), moderate in number, but high in activity.

Aroma is much brighter than normal Cantillon lambic, with strong floral characters added to a potent lemon-apple-cider vinegar tartness, some serious wet hay "funk" and basement mustiness, and a bit of light/bright oak smoothing things out.

Front of palate tastes expressive and bright floral characters, pleasantly mild to moderate lemon-apple tartness, hints of pale malt sweetness, and light oak. Mid-palate experiences pepperiness, oak, bright flowers, moderate intensity tartness with lemon-apple-cider vinegar overtones, faint pale malt sweetness and slight acetone. Back of palate is of intense lemon-apple-cider vinegar tartness with undertones of oak, wet hay and basement mustiness. Aftertaste is of lingering lemon-apple tartness, floral characters, basement mustiness, wet hay "funk," and nuances of pale malt sweetness.

Beer is medium-bodied, with carbonation of medium-light intensity, resulting in a beer that is foamy (2/5) and otherwise smooth (3/5), a very satisfying, full and gently rolling mouthfeel that's perfect for this or any sour beer. Closes surprisingly semi-dry, with light to moderate stickiness clinging to the palate and lips.

Many many thanks to MrKennedy for gifting this bottle.

Pours straw truly delightful pillowy head. Fads to film spotty lace

Tart, vinegar, hint floral.

Cantillon true to form sourness, lemons, green apples, vinous, with a whack of floral petals but an overall lightweight taste.

Zesty, refreshing, palate cleansing with a slight 'stick' in throat from floral-ness

A good Cantillon but not a great beer, the floral notes overpower a little.
