On cask at Moeder Lambic Fontainas a few weeks ago during our trip to Belgium. Served in a Cantillon tulip. Reviewed from notes.

Pours a beautiful bright, bright red with an everlasting white pink head. Once that eventually fades, there is loads of lacing. The nose brings forward some restrained funk and loads of fresh, tart cherries. Really impressive. Good acidity coming throughout plus strong cherry flavor and a light tartness. Lactic acid throughout. Light-medium body with moderate carbonation. Super-smooth and uber-enjoyable.

On cask at Moeder Lambic.

Looked nice like a typical kriek, rosy red and cloudy, with a full whitish head. Dusty aroma, lots of vinegar, cherry candy. Big vinegar bomb in the taste, sweet cherry flesh and some wet oak in the background, but mostly acetic acid. This honestly didn't even taste like a Cantillon lambic, but rather more like other lesser quality brands. Way too much vinegar in this for me to enjoy, and it was a bit of a struggle to get through one glass. I hate to say it, but...yuck. Very bad.

On cask at the Moeder Lambik on Place Fontainas.

Poured a bright red with a one finger pink head. Lacing was minimal, but I've come to expect this with lambics and geuezes.

Smell; holy cherries. I've never smelled a lambic with this dominant a cherry aroma before. Mildly sour and funky in the nose, but not as much as I was expecting for a Cantillon.

Taste: very much cherry forward, but the funky/sourness that I was hoping for comes through a little more here. That's a really good thing too, as there's a bit more underlying sweetness in this than I've some to expect in Cantillon beers. Tart, and kind of oaky, with a surprising dryness in the finish.

Mouthfeel is smooth, almost velvety, but still manages to be on the lighter side.

Overall this is one really fantastic beer. This is one of the most cherry forward Kriek beers I've had in a longtime, though somehow it manages to be sweet, tart and dry all at the same time.

On tap at Moeder Lambic. Pour is transparent ruby red with a dark pink head and tight bubbles the sit forever. The nose is very singular, huge cherries and little else. Light dusty notes try to hit you up front but are faded by huge ripe cherries. The taste has a bit more, notes of oak and a faint dustiness. These flavors are again overpowered by a huge ripe cherry and moderate sourness. The body is light and pretty soft on the palate with a lively prickly carbnatoin throughout and a rather dry finish. Very tasty and easy to drink but a touch singular.

Cuvee Moeder at Moeder Lambic Fontainas

A: Dark ruby red body. Large pinkish head consisting of millions of tightly packed bubbles. Slowly cascaded leaving behind film like lacing.

S: Massive cherry blast. Sweet, sour and tart. A little bit of musty oak.

T: Like the nose the cherries here are incredibly dynamic with sweet, sour and tart notes sharing the stage. Oak is here as well as a light musty funk.

M: Velvety with medium carbonation. Refreshingly clean. Nice tantalizing sourness in the finish.

D: A very nice kriek which truly shows off all the cherries that were packed into this one. Unlike the lou pepe kriek which is quite juice like, this one has a little bit more of a zip to it that is quite nice.

Handpump at Moeder Lambic. The fellow that coaxed this from the cask informed me that it's a slightly different recipe than the bottled kriek, there being more cherries in this version.

And right he was. A three dimensional cherry flavor, tart and dry, fills the mouth. It's tempered with a miniscule amount of oak. Indescribable ecstasy.

They offer this by the glass or the "cruchon," a 1L serving vessel. A tantalizing prospect, but I think it's intended for multiple people.

On draft - served in a Cantillon tulip

Enjoyed at Chez Moeder Lambic Sint-Gilles in early June 2012.

A: Deep red. 2.5+ (frothy pink) fingernail head.

S: Smells of cherry tartness and touch of sweetness. Soft, dry funk as well with touch of oak. Heavenly!

T: Unripe cherry mostly here, but a nice touch of mild (fresh fruit - strawberry + raspberry) sweetness too. Soft oak with classic Cantillon funk and must. This beer is very dry, but oh so enjoyable. Mellow, smooth, and very refreshing!

M: Medium bodied with loads of carbonation. Perfect!

O: Nice, smooth, and very easy to enjoy! another superb beer from Jean and well worth the trip to Moeder Lambic.
