look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Pours black as night, with a light tan head that laceswell and dissapates to a one finger static cap.

Smells boozy, and sweet, possibly of raisins and molasses. Can't detect much else, but raisin sweetness is very strong.

Taste is of very toasty malt chocolate, with that molasses in the background, and a little bit of bitterness in the finish. Quite pleasing and clean for the style, and really nicely sweet at the beginning of the sip. 8.8% abv makes itself known just a little bit in the breath initially, and helps the flavor out a lot. Coffee hints in the after-swallow breath, which is nice.

Mouth feel is tingly and thick, and drinkability is not fantastic due to the abv and boozy taste, but still pretty good for the style. Bonus points for the awesome lion picture on the bottle art, very Sri Lankan of them.

A - Black with a creamy one and a half finger head that is fairly short lived.

S - Dates, honey, molasses and faint soy sauce, but it meshes well.

T - There is a bit of chocolate and burnt malt flavor. Some faint lemony sour citrus notes make an appearance. Good.

M - Thin to medium viscosity, smooth and refreshing. Velvety comes to mind.

D - This goes down like water and completely masks the abv. It is defintely worth a try.

A: Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass. Dark brown or black - non-translucent with minimal light brown head that quickly dissipated to a single ring. No real lacing to speak of.

S: Coffee and toffey aromas with a touch of sweet malt.

T: Heavily roasted chocolate malt is immediate and predominant, with light hints of sweetness somewhat toffee-ish in nature.

M&D: Heavy mouthfeel and full bodied. Very light but persistent carbonation goes well with the favors and heaviness at hand. At 8% I was expecting some warming but didn't really experience any. Goes down pretty smoothly.

I liked this beer a great deal. Definitely a nice chocolate mocha taste and smell. Well rounded after taste. My one real complaint would be that there is entirely too much carbonation in the beer. It masks an otherwise very good taste. My beer is also being served a bit cooler than it should be, which has an effect. The beer is definitely a stout, but a bit light as stouts go, and combined with the extra cold state, make it not the best winter beer at the moment.

Although, as I said, very good beer, and worth the while.

Pours a deep mahogany color with a thick, rising tan head that leaves plenty of lacing on the glass.

Smells of roasted malts characterized by coffee mostly.

Tastes of big roasted malts with some small hops to it. Notes of dark chocolate are prevalent with the coffee playing off of it. Some molasses sweetness comes through. Notes of vanilla are also present. A touch of hops form a floral presence.

Mouthfeel is medium with a slightly rough amount of carbonation.

Pour pitch black in a "maredsous" chalice.

Off brownish white head dissipates slowly to a thin film. Huge aroma of roasted barley and pure chocolate and hints of fresh coffee bean. Flavor is all FES, roasted malt, coffee, soft and pleasant astingency. Alcohol is well cloaked, this would pair wonderfuly with a N-Y cheesecake or a big bowl of ripe cherries.
