Stopped by to meet up with a friend's family one evening this past summer. We had a table outside which was nice. the patio reminds me of a Soulard-ish restaurant which I enjoyed, plus it was a good size. They were all drinking Woodchuck when I got there, so I joined in on their pitchers. I'm normally not a cider kind of girl, but it really wasn't half bad on a warm summer night. Their beer menu is not the best, but it definitely isn't the worst. It's not just Bud Light, Coors and Miller so I was satisfied. They do have Chimay which is a plus in my opinion.

We snacked on appetizers which were pretty good. We all had the fries, chips and pub pickles. The pub pickles were definitely my favorite. They offer a side of pepper cheese and/or rarebit with the chips which was great.

All together, it was an enjoyable experience. Not my favorite place, but it's good for pop-in once in awhile.

One of my parents favorite haunts when they were younger. Definitely not something to go out of your way for, but if you're in the area, the food is good, as is the beer and atmosphere.

While having a friday night out in the Central West End, this was our first stop of the night. We walked in and the first thing I saw was Nitro-Taps in the middle of the bar. I then ordered a Fuller's ESB and made our way over to the dining room. It was a random crowd of people and so we didn't stay at the bar to drink. At our table, the server had no clue about beer. I asked what other beers were on tap and she took 10 minutes to check on them. Since there are 25+ beers on tap and bottles, great selection, but this wasn't enough to change what we were about to experience.
We first ordered the Welsh's Chips and Rarebit sauce and I regret it! The Rarebit was supposed to be a Guinness mixed cheese sauce, but it tasted like a cold gravy... Then we ordered the Steak and Cheese and this sauce was the same on here. Very strange that anyone could like this taste.
Between the three of us, the tab was $50 and I believe that isn't the best bargain when in an English Pub. Might have to try the other location out, but won't be soon.

Stopped by on a recent trip to St. Louis.

A typical Irish-pub atmosphere with a big bar, lots of tables and a back area that would accommodate busy nights. The beer selection was a nice mix of craft beer and typical Irish pub favourites. Craft beers includes O'Fallons 5 Day IPA (which was very tasty), GD Titan IPA and Fat Tire to name a few. Craft selection was not huge but was still decent.

Prices were reasonable and service was good. The place wasn't busy at all when I went, so we have the bartender's undivided attention. Didn't have any food.

Owned by the same fellow as at Dressel's, it had a long façade with the entry at the far right side. Entering, the long, elongated "U"-shaped bar began just inside the door and fronted a vintage back bar. Checked B & W mosaic tile floor. Gorgeous beer trays in the overhead. Left side of bar area was restaurant-style seating.

A separate doorway in center led upstairs to another bar area, albeit abbreviated, along with a couple of leather sofas and a leather chair. A snug had been fashioned from a former wooden phone booth. The view of the street was great. Great Victorian brass lighting fixtures.

Beers: Draft (24) - all quality. Schlafly; New Belgian; O'Fallon; and Goose Island; as standouts. BT (26) - Oof! Chimay, Dirty Dick's and Young's Double Chocolate Stout were it. Otherwise, A. B. baby!

One of my favorite bars in St. Louis. Great beer selection including some great locals (5 day IPA- one of my favorite beers) as well some british style tapped Fuller's. Food is also excellent. Nothing crazy, but really good standard fare. The atmosphere is also fantastic, with an old feel and friendly people who remember your name and your beer. Have a really nice outdoor biergarden for the summer (you will have to get your better drafts indoor and take them out). Haven't lived in St. Louis very long, but this is a place to frequent. I recommend the pub chips as a side and if you aren't into potatoes go with the vingar based slaw. Its good. My personal move is the Reuben with chips. Hand cut chips are one of my weaknesses.

I was directed to this place by the owner of Dressel's -- apparently his old man and his old man's business partner started both places years ago. It's a nice place, but I agree that I would go to Dresse's next time, which is right around the corner.

A - Has a Welsh theme and looks neat from the outside, but inside seemed pretty much "just a bar". Sure, there were some some things hung on the walls, but it just wasn't convincing.

Q - The beers I tried were all fresh, and right tasty.

S - Bartender lady was nice -- like southern hospitality nice. Always prompt to get me another drink or sample. I went during lunch though, and I think she was bored. Got a souvenier mug out of the deal, so can't complain. I was disappointed by her lack of knowledge of beer.

Selection - I think I counted 25 tap handles/engine handles. With all the handles, I was expecting a plethera of interesting beers. However, I found only 1IPA (a local called 5 Day IPA), 1 porter (Fuller's London Porter), and 1 Stout (Guiness). The remaining 22 handles were an assortment of wheats, pale ales (a few Welsh, of course), and maybe a lager or two. There were 3 beers by Fuller's on the engines, but alas, they were pulled out of kegs. Also the Fuller's ESB was out :(. A few more beers in the "bold taste" department would have helped this selection out a lot.

F - I just had a burger and fries. The fries were really good, the burger was just good.

Still a decent place to visit, but if I'm in the area, I'm going to Dressel's first.

I’m somewhat blessed in that I live in within walking distance of 2 Welsh and 1 Scottish pub. While I can’t fine the diverse selection of beers I used to enjoy in a few of my haunts in Boston, the fresh British beer I have on hand is awe inspiriring. My most recent trip was to Llyweln's. 1st comment. Go there for the beer. They have about 12 taps, and 3 of those are Fuller’s cask conditioned ales. 1 word. Yummm. They were fresh, spot on in temperature, and delicious. The rest of the taps were a , mixture of domestic and foreign brews, all worthy. New Belgium, Schlafly, and Widmer represented the domestic set. Pilsener Urquel, Boddingtons, and a few other British beers represented the Old World. They have a decent selection of bottled beers that includes Youngs Double Chocolate, Fullers Vintage and others. Go here for the beer.

There is a nice slection of food, but the meal I had was uninspired. I had a small salad (mixed grrens, peppers, and a vinaigrette), an “adult toasted cheese sandwich” (texas toast, 3 cheeses, and tomatoes, not bad actually), and some cold steak fries. The food wasn’t great, but not bad. I’ll go back to try it again.

Service was OK. O came in early on a Saturday evening, and had to wait more than 5 minutes before a wait person came up to pour me a beer. The bartender was in back washing glasses. My food came out all at once (contributed to the fries being chilled). Again, I’ll make another trip before judging too heavily.

If I’ve not said this already, go here for the beer. The Fuller’s on cask is magnificent. It makes up for any other negatives of this place.

EDIT: Thanks to Dave for letting me know. Their beer is not cask (I thought the texture was wrong). The just pull it through a hand pump. I'm adjusting their score for this.

Atmosphere: Overall, a comfortable place to have a pint or three...as long as the bartender doesn't go crazy with the volume knob on the stereo behind the bar.

Quality: All of the beer I've had there has been fresh and served in room temperature glasses. They serve it a bit on the cold side, but that's forgivable.

Service: Above average...the bartenders are prompt about getting you another round, but don't expect any conversation. You're on your own...

Selection: They always have three Fuller's on hand-pump, but beyond that, I find their selection to be limited and boring. I stick with the Fuller's...

Food: Nothing great...just ordinary pub food.

Three Fuller's available on draft, although it is the faux handpump/keg setup. The selection is almost always the London Porter, ESB and IPA, although London Pride occassionally (not enough for me) replaces the IPA, and Fuller's Summer Ale makes an appearance during the summer. The rest of the beer selection is good, with the standard irish/english/welsh pub selections, although the draft offerings from Felinfoel and Brains are a rare treat.

The staff is always helpful and friendly, and generally appreciate and understand their wares. The atmosphere borders on cliche English/Irish pub, but with a few Welsh twists, and a really cool collection of beer serving trays. The music is eclectic, and varies greatly depending on who is behind the bar.

There are two standouts on the menu - the homemade potato chips, and the grilled steak and cheese sandwich. Both are excellent and highly recommended. The rest of the menu is more hit or miss. My wife does not like the steak sandwich because it comes with pepper jack cheese, and has searched in vain for something she really enjoys on the menu. The rest of the food isn't bad, its just not memorable.

I visited the original location, in the Central West End (though there is another out in Westport). This pub had a nice mood: wooden bar with a black formica top, tile floor, dim lighting with candles for mood. The beer selection is very good. They had 19 taps that I counted, including 4 on cask (Fuller's ESB, IPA, and Porter, and a root beer). Also on tap were 3 Schlafly beers (St. Louis micro) and two Boulevard beers (Kansas City), including the fine Bully! Porter. Also on tap were Bellhaven, Harp, Bass, Guinness, Tennent's, Newcastle, etc. There were also about 10-12 beers available in bottles. The bartender was friendly and helpful, and she knew her beer. As for the food, we had some of their homemade potato chips with dip, which was very good.

They also have a lounge upstairs for live musical acts, but I did not check this out.
