Well I just left LA, and I knew that before I went I had to make one last stop at Naja's. I found this to be my favorite bar in the LA area. There might be bars that are better, but since driving is such an integral part of the vapid LA culture, this was the best bar within taxi-able distance of my buddy's place in Hermosa Beach.
Anyway the atmosphere is basically a divey beach bar complemented by a fantastic selection of beer. Whereas your average Manhattan Beach or Hermosa Beach establishment is going to draw a certain type of youthful, image concerned Angelino, Naja's clearly leans toward dive.
The bar itself is made of plastic, but behind the bar are all of the taps and several fridges chock full of good bottles. They recently added a handpump, and the several times I have been there since, they have a local brew on the cask (Stone brews are pretty common).
The service here is friendly and prompt (contrast this to the mandatory 5 minute plus wait at Father's Office). They'll give you a sample of a beer if you'd like to try before you buy. One of the guys working there is a huge Yankees fan, and it was entertaining to watch him squirm during the Red Sox-Yankees ALCS game that was on at the time. I'm sure he'd be happy to be reminded about the biggest choke of all time when you go there.
They have a limited menu of pub grub. It's nothing special but if you are looking for something upon which to munch while you imbibe, it's there.
I have been there on Saturday afternoons during the summer, and there was often a live band playing. It can get a little to loud to talk, but it sure is nice to kick back with a nice brew and the sun shining in on a summer afternoon. Another time, there was a nice 2-person fight outside, it was tough to get the jist of the fight, but it ended with one guy knocked out on the ground, and the RBPD rolling in with beanbag shotguns. Highly entertaining, and they didn't even charge cover (at no time did I feel unsafe, it was just a random fight between two drunk guys who clearly weren't the brightest bulbs in the knife drawer).
If I had ended up staying in LA as opposed to moving out, I would have moved within walking distance of Naja's. It's definitely one of a few bars in LA that is worth checking out.

It's really hard to rate this place. The selection is obviously incredible and the best around hands down. But the crowd/atmosphere is not so great and seemingly not there for the ridiculous beer selection. I prefer going when it's less crowded so I can just chill out and really enjoy what I'm tasting.
