Beer served on draft at a local beer bar. Beer is yellow and really hazy. Forms a thin head that falls away leaving lacing on the glass. Carbonation is moderate.

Aroma is yeasty and has some subtle esters in there. Smells wet.

Beer is medium to low bodied. There is a mild aftertaste, finishes wet. There are some esters in the middle, fruity flavors, overall a good beer. This is pretty much exactly what I expect from a beer. Simple, clean, clear flavors. A great example of the hefeweizen.

On tap at Pizzeria Paradiso. Served in a weizen glass.

Hazy yellowish-orange body with a big fluffy head. Smell is of lemons and bananas. Taste is of lemons, bananas, and vanilla. I don't really like cloves, so the lack of clove flavors was a plus for me. Mouthfeel was rich and creamy. In all, it was rather reminiscent of a banana cream pie. Very nice.

Served on tap into an Ayinger gold rimmed 0.5 L Weizen Glass. This is the "glass of the month" at Winking Lizard, which is where I bought the beer and the glass for $6.25. I don't know about you but I think that is an excellent deal!

A Opaque yellow (like lemon meringue really) body under a one inch white head. Served with a lemon wedge which was quickly removed.

S Cloves, bananas, sweet malt, wheat. Inviting, interesting. Great smell.

T Great wheat, clove, banana or light fruit sweetness. Just great.

M Moderate with Fruitty thickness, wheat that beefs it up as well.

D Great. I could have a liter of this without too much trouble at all (I kept it to the 0.5L tonight though).

Notes: This is a serious rival to Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier for THE example of a great Hefe.

beautiful cloudy pale yellow color with a billowing foamy 2 inch head...excellent head retention that slowly settled to a 1/4 inch...plenty lace sticking to the glass

lots of complex aromas with this beer....plenty of citrus, lemon/orange, intertwined with bananas and cloves

dominated by yeast as it should in a German Hefe...lime, lemon, hints of apple, orange set the table for a big hit of bready malt halfway through...dry tangy finish was an invitation for me to take another sip

medium body that left my tongue feeling slick after each sip

i'm a big fan of Hefes in the summer months and this is by far the best one i've had hands down....i was happy to see this one on tap as i get a better feel for a beer in that format....a very drinkable beer and possibly a nice gateway beer for those that are hard to sway into craft beers

Had on tap -- Served in proper Ayinger Hefe glass.

Served with a nice giant white head that didn't leave much lacing. Overall a nice cloundy orange color.

Loads of cloves in the nose -- too much for my taste. Pretty much dominates everything else aside from some banana.

Taste was similar -- you're going to get a lot of banana and cloves throughout. Aftertaste fades away quickly. If you aren't into the clove and yeasty banana flavor profile, this won't be for you. With that said, it is slowly growing on me so it was still an enjoyable brew. Nice and refreshing and light to enjoy on a warm day.

Had this at the Houston Flying Saucer. Poured in a pint glass! Nice cloudy orange color with a big 1 and 1/2 inch head. Aromas of bubblegum, bananas, cloves and some very light vanilla. Light to Medium carbonation with mostly banana and clove in taste. Finishes with a a mild and slight crisp. Good and easy to drink better than paulaner but still not as good as Schneider.

Had this on-tap at Leon's in Atlanta.

Pours a hazy lemon-yellow color with deeper shades of orange in the center of the glass. The head is one-finger of white foam that recedes into a wispy layer of bubbles on top leaving decent lacing.

Smells of bananas with good amounts of earthy cloves.

Tastes similar to how it smells. Lots of banana flavors with light hints of spices and an earthy finish from the yeast.

Mouthfeel is good - it's got a nice thickness with solid carbonation.

Drinkability is very good. I finished one fairly quickly and could go for a few more.

Overall there's not a whole lot I would change about this beer - if it were a bit more crisp at the end it'd be a bit better, but as it is it's close to perfect. Worth a shot.

Had on tap today at the Marquee Lounge. Served into a tall Ayinger weizen glass.

Appearance was a cloudy golden yellow with a one inch plus white head that fell a bit but held up the whole time and left some good lace. I think the Ayinger glass enhances it as well.

Aroma had lots of banana esters and fresh baked sweet breadiness, with a light touch of clove in the back.

Taste began with the aforementioned bready sweetness followed by the perfect amount of banana that was balanced in the finish by the perfect amount of spicy clove character. Perfect.

Mouthfeel was on the light side, very crisp and refreshing with nice carbonation, though I think it could have been slightly higher.

This was fantastic on tap. In the bottle it is just good but from the tap it is amazing. It had to have been quite fresh.

Sipped on this one while playing bocce with brickstoredave at Leon's Full Service. Life is good...

Pours a very hazy golden yellow with a huge puffy white head that lasts for ages and leaves great lacing.

The aroma is classic hefe with a massive banana sweetness with only hints of spices in the background.

Taste follows the aroma and is, once again, textbook hefe with a huge bubblegum and banana sweetness with hints of lemony hops up front and spices in the finish.

The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with tons of carbonation and very smooth.

To call this one drinkable would be an understatement. It's an exceptionally easy beer to drink and one of the best examples of the style I've had. Highly recommended!

Enjoyed this one on tap.

Poured a darker and cloudy golden color with an averaged sized white head. Aromas of stronger cloves, bananas and citrus. Tastes of wheat, bananas, lemons and lighter spices. A very drinkable Hefe that I could see drinking on a regular basis.

Got a glass of this at Cloverleaf Tavern.

A: Pours a cloudy, straw-yellow body with a small, white head with poor retention, but with some lacing along the sides of the glass.

S: A sweet, malt smell with some citrus and olive undertones.

T: A strong, banana ester taste with a velvety, lemon and olive aftertaste. Hint of sweet malts are evident as well.

M: A light anf refreshing beer that proves to be representative of a Hefeweizen. While slightly watery, it still held true to style, in my opinion.

D: A good combination of mouthfeel and taste makes this a drinkable beer, overall. Mouthfeel seemed a little thin, but the drinkability of the beer seemed good nonetheless.

Lovely lemon nose, light colour, almost lemonade like...An truly enjoyable light wheat beer, perfect to quench the thirst on a fine summer day. Mouthfeel: cold, and almost a sour aftertaste. The beer poured with absolutely no head! I would recommend this fine brew to any weisse fan, they would totally enjoy!

Served in its own 0,5L weizen glass at American Flatbread in Burlington, VT.

Pours a cloudy yellow color with a one finger cloudy white head that dissiaptes quickly. Wonderful aromas of ripe banana, grass, wheat, clove with hints of vanilla. Up front flavors of wheat, banana, clove, lemon & German malt followed by some fruity yeast, finishing dry with wheat and clove. Light body, medium carbonation, very clean mouthfeel but not as crisp and refreshing as other hefeweizens lowering the drinkability. Still a very nice beer though.

Definitely one of the best in the world for this style. Fortunate to find it on tap at Cafe Amsterdan in Anchorage, Alaska. Thank you Specialty Imports.

Cloudy, pale golden with thick, pillowy, soft white head. Took a while for bar keep to pour. No significant lacing.

Clovey mainly, some estery banana, but nothing like the banana blowing off the weizenbock I've got fermenting right now. A hint of alcohol in the nose.

Tastes alot like the nose, more clove than banana. A faint bit of bitter bite. Some sweetness toward the end and some bubblegum live flavor. Balanced finish.

Well carbonated, medium body, quick finish balanced between sweet and dry.

Drinkability? Are you kidding? Could a beer drink any easier than this one?

Hazy gold with a thick white head. Sharp grainy aroma of tart wheat, citrus, banana and cloves. Flavors bring a quenching wheat tartness with bubblegum and some qualities of the aroma mentioned above. Medium body with prickly carbonation and a slightly acidic fruity/ yeasty finish.

On draft at Gibbies, Morgantown, WV. A cloudy yellow color witha decent white head. Aroma of banana and wheat malt. No hops to speak of. It's a nice aroma, and I believe true to the style although I have had few authentic representations.

Taste a bit of earthy wheat, some banana and clove as well, which linger on in the finish.

Light bodied and good carbonation. A nice drinkable beer.

My Ayinger Brau Weisse was brought out to me in it's own beautiful weizen glass. It's cloud-like head reaching above the lemon graced rim. It was a beautiful golden color and teaming with activity. While the lemon is nice and looks pretty perched on the glass it can hide the true taste of this beer. So my second was served in a fresh glass w/o the lemon. This Brau Weisse has it's own citrus notes and maybe a little banana with a slightly spicy, but clean finish. As for drinkability, well I did have two. This weisse is also good from the bottle, when you would rather be home.

Although I should preface this by saying the Hefe Weizens are not my highest priority in the beer hierarchy but the milder ones I can enjoy. This was a little heavier than I would like but is probably an excellent brew for those really tuned into this style. It is a light cloudy yellow brew with a thin but sturdy head full of fine white bubbles. The musty smell is kind of a turn off although it includes a sharp yeast overtone. The flavor is a lemony-wheat feature with a sort of woodsy hint to it. Kind of earthy in a sunshiney sort of way. Refreshing and full bodied with a somewhat acidic finish. Definitely an enjoyable brew but probably not something I would want to drink more than one or two of. I was fortunate to find this on tap in Connecticut.

On tap at The Map Room in Chicago, the beer of the month. Hazy light golden color, with lots of streaming bubbles. White fluffy head holds well for a while.

Light banana and clove in the nose, not as strong as others of the style. Pretty simple, maybe a bit of earthy aromas as well.

Very refreshing, a bit tart, but true to style. Hint of banana, but not a whole lot of clove. Lacking a bit of character compared to others.

A good amount of carbonation, but seems just a tad thin. Still very enjoyable.

german noses sniff
boatloads of bananas
summer beverage

The description said "a bit of banana in the nose." I think I sniffed a chiquita plantation in costa rica. This beer has a heavy banana scent but less of a banana taste. This is an excellent hefe weizen and one that I will most like drink many times this summer because I love drinking beer. A lot.

Served in it's glass this was cloudy golden yellow, inch and a half white head with retention and lacing. Lots of fast rising little bubbles.

Nose is lemon and yeast.

Taste is of clove, yeast, malts, grassy, fresh, and citrus. Finish is wheat. I'm not getting too much banana here.

Medium thin mouthfeel, but it does coat a little. Champagne like carbonation.

Very drinkable and refreshing.

Hazy golden body highlighted by shooting strands of bubbles rising to the outstandingly sturdy head. Looks like the poster-child for the style.

Yeasty nose with mild lemon, corriander, mild lemon and cloves appearing as well.

Good citrus qualities, although sweet citrus; more orange than the grapfruit/lemon peel of many hightly hopped beers. Yeast shines through and accentuates the wheat itself wonderfully. Tasty!

Really carbonated, almost to the point where it messed with my taste receptors. Still, it wasn't soda-poppy and the slightly chalky feel really allows the flavors to coat your mouth.

Refreshing but it is a bit thick with yeast. Complaints in this area may have more to do with the fact I'm drinking it on a January night in Chicago. If I wait until the hot summer months I many actually want more than two of these.
