Poured into a weizen glass and the foam rose straight to the top, giving a solid two-finger head that melted away w/o leaving any real lacings on a cloudy, light-gold body. Huge citrus smell (orange, banana, lemon all there) with a good appearance of pepper and clove (clove mostly). Unbelievable tart citrus taste up front, sharp but not biting, with orange and lemon flavors (and a dash of tropical fruits) coming out individually on the backbite. This made the beer incredibly smooth and gave it a great finish, but this medium-bodied beer is rounded out with some light spicing in it. A simplistic beer but done well, this is an excellent hefe if, like me, you love hefes, and a good beer for any beer drinker to enjoy if they just want something not too heavy to quaff.

Appearance: Poured into a Duvel sniffter; beautiful hazy honey color with meringue pure white head. No lacing above the liquid by a great lace as it's being enjoyed; good retention.

Smell: Spicy citrusy yeast with clove notes.

Mouthfeel: Light body with medium carbonation, suprisingly chewy for a session beer-like abv.

Taste: Fantastic yeasty lemony cloves; just a little dry malt on the finish.

Drinkability: A session beer at its finest; This was the first beer in 21 reviews I've finished prior to completing the review. I want a few more.

Wow! What can I say? This is the second time that I've had this Ayinger weiss. The first time was in Rotenburg, Germany on Tap! This time was in a bottle that I purchased at Binny's in Chicago. With the obvious banana and spice overtones, what makes this brew exeptional is the mouthfeel.

During the middle of the winter, it is always great to look forward to great summer brews like the Ayinger.

A: pours a very nice, cloudy pale yellow with a 2 finger frothy, white head that has great retention. Tons of carbonation visible as well. Not much lacing.

S: banana, spice and coriander with a touch of apple as well and very yeasty.

T: wow, nice floral hops up front, beautifully creamy and yeasty banana with coriander and spice present throughout - very, very nice.

M:light and incredibly crisp, very nicely carbonated and quite a dry, spicy finish.

D: This is an excellent hefe. Quite complex and very bold. Excellent flavours and very refreshing. This was a great find and I will definitely be buying this one again...I can't wait till summer!

A- Cloudy, light straw, little head

S- Aroma of light clove. not much banana, and that soft distinctive wheat aroma. Wishing for something more.

T- I always thought this was a bit light on taste, even for a hefeweizen.

M- Alright. No problems here. Could use a tad more carbonation.

D- Drinkability could be high because it goes down so easy, but I don't think I'd really want to spend much time drinking this one. Nothing wrong with it technically, though.

I grabbed this one in anticipation of the summer beer season. I'm getting burnt out on all these great stouts.

Pours a bright yellow/gold with a very nice fluffy white head that sticks around for a while. Very nice appearance. Smells like bananas with some good spiciness. This is a great hefe. The taste is deliciously sweet with delicate spiciness and that unique banana flavor. What a great beer. One of my summer favorites.

Bring on the summer beers!

I had this beer at a local german restaurant. this is definitely a good beer, especially with german food. It was served at a perfect temperature... had a nice 1-2 finger head.... smelled as you would expect.... it was the most perfect compliment to a fine german meal... I couldn't get enough.

Poured from a bottle to a weizen glass. Had a brownish-yellow color and a cloudy consistency, common with this style of beer. There was a big head on this one and much lacing.

This had a sweet smell, coupled with the wheat giving it a nice quality.

Had a solid taste. Wheat and what seemed like bubblegum in the flavor appeared the most prevalent. Very good, but a little thin on the finish.

There's a decent amount of carbonation here, but it's not overly high. Could've used a touch more.

Overall, a drinkable beer. The complaints in this one are minor in general.

There is nothing like a good hefe in the middle of the winter. It tends to get me in the right frame of mind. A big white foamy head sits majestically atop this cloudy light-orange brew from the folks that know how to do it. Smells of creamy bananas. Tastes smooth and fruity with some subtle lemon. Not too crisp, and not too heavy, but just right. Great carbonation with bubbles swirling when I tip the glass down after a pull. Highly drinkable and big on taste. Not much else to say about this one. It does what it's supposed to do, and does it well. What more can you ask for?

A - Poured a hazy yellow color with a two finger white head

S - Typical hefe wheat malt banana touch of clove

T - Not as strong as other hefes but you still get all of the same flavors out of this one wheat malt banana and clove

M - This is a medium bodied beer with a good level of carbonation

D - This is a very good hefe thats easy to drink I would get this one again worth a try

Big-bodied hefeweizen from Ayinger. I'm definitely impressed. The body is a cloudy lemony gold with three fingers of white froth. Prominent smell, with plenty of yeast, orange, lemon, and a distinctly sweet, almost gum flavor to offset the sour overtones. These come forth in the taste. The yeast is impressive, acting as glue for the rest of the flavors. It's complexity is an arresting feature, really delivering much to the consumer.

The durable head is a good sign, providing ample carbonation for the flavors to impress to the end. This, to me, is what Hefeweizen is all about--bold and smooth, direct and complex. Very delicious, and I'm thankful I grabbed this. It went very well with my pepperoni and anchovy pizza.

16oz from the Coop for about $2.95.. poured into my smaller hefe glass..

Huge pillow head.. as it drops just spotty lacing appears.. glowing very pale light gold... fair amount of suspended yeast.

This is the 4th German hefe for me in recent days, and this one is almost certainly has the most characteristic esters... very fruity with clove playing the lead and light banana and bubblegum as supporting roles.

Flavor is like the aroma on steroids... like clove studded bananas.. bubblegum is much more evident... white wheat malts are present but hide under all the ester layers.. not nearly as sweet as the Hacker.. the finish is dry with a good clove spike.

This is certainly a world class brew.. everything that's good about a German hefe is right out front.. it doesn't beat you over the head with the esters, but wow.. the complexity is amazing for such a sessionable brew.. I am really coming around to hefeweizens.

As far as I can tell, this is probably only the 2nd-3rd time I've had this beer.. I will buy again, maybe this weekend.

Appearance - HUGE, creamy whaite head above a transclucsent, light aprcit or straw color. Looks fairly impressive.

Aroma - Sweet mild, wheat aromaswith banana and a hint of clove. Has some other, very subtle aromas that I can't put my finger on. Reminds me of fresh, clean linen. Some malt sweetness comes through.

Taste - It's good, but not outstanding. Nice balance of wheat, citrus and a hint of malt sweetness hidden way back there behind the sourness of your typical wheat. Some other very subtle flavors in there to. A woodiness kind of feel.

Mouthfeel- Full bodied with an appropriate level of carbonation. Not as puckering as some hefes, but very refreshing.

Drinkability - Very drinkable. I've tasted better hefes, but not many. Well worth a try.

A- lots of frothy white foam fills nearly the entire glass, settles slowly to a barely translucent golden wheat and banana colored brew. some lemon/canary yellow highs and great radiant color. head has great retention and leaves clumpy quilts of lace that run down like lightning bolts near the end.

S- banana-wheat, yeasty spicy clove, nutmeg, coriander, dried flowers like a potpourri spice, and fresh baked bread.

T- bubblegum, banana bread, spring water, and a yeast sourness that comes through in the middle followed by lots of wheat and a raw barley type taste, cooked white rice, green apple, and a soft citrus lemon/orange coriander fruitiness and a bubblegum wheat finish.

MF- light to medium in body, medium carbonation, and a powdery wheat feel in the palate, very refreshing, goes down easy like sunday morning.

D- makes me feel like its almost springtime, would be even better on a sunny may afternoon.

Pouring led to a light golden color with a lighter colored cloudyness to it. And this had a white head.

Smell was great. Very citrus-y with a light hint of some spice to it.

The taste was clean and crisp and you got a feel for that citrus/spice smell which was very nice. It was definately a good tasting hefeweizen but I have had worse and I have had better, surely on the upper end of the list though!

Mouthfeel was alright, I found it to be slightly sticky and dry afterwards but it was nothing too out of the ordinary. Carbonation was almost perfect maybe just a tad too much but it went well with the flavor.

Drinkable. Very much so, it went down easy and it's solid to keep going with if you're up for a hefeweizen night. Great beer with a salad or light dinner.

The unfiltered wheat brew from the Motherland poured a hazy yellow with a quick dissipating head. No lacing or freshness date.

The aroma was citrusy with a faint hint of nutmeg.

Taste was money on this one. Very crisp and had a nice lemony flavor through the drink. The little champagne like bubbles danced in my mouth. I would definitely buy this import again.

This beer pours a cloudy pale orange color. The head is massive, billowy, and bright white. It recedes very slowly leaving thick chunks of foam. The aroma is of cloves, tangy wheat, and has a hint of banana. The taste is of cloves, banana, more cloves, and has a nice zesty finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with lively carbonation, and a velvety texture. Overall, this is a very good hefe. I can see myself drinking this regularly.

Poured out of a 500ml bottle into a hefe glass.

Bright straw yellow cloudy color. Firm white head. The head lasts to the last drop.

Smell of lemon, and strong bubblegum. Clove is there as well.

Strong bubblegum and tart finish. Very pleasing. Faint veggie (cooked corn).

Dry mouthfeel.

Very drinkable but I would put my effort into getting this fresh or get a fresher hefeweizen.

I noticed right away the insane amount of head that almost spilled over the glass. The head seemed to stay with the beer throughout the whole glass, which is a huge plus. The taste of lemon/banana lingers with ever sip. This beer reminds me of many of the great German Hefe-weizens of the past. Plenty of carbonation that tingles the taste buds on the way down. Not an overly bitter brew at all. The smell is very European. A very drinkable beer. I would recommend this beer to anyone who wants a real Hefe-weizen

S- Sweet mild aromas of banana with clove and bubble gum undertones.

T- Nothing stands out, this beer is just a great example of the style. The yeast flavor comes through nicely.

M- Full bodied finishes light and refreshing.

D- With a beer this flavorful and refreshing its easy to put back quite a few.

This is a must try for fans of the style or if you're not a fan of the style then gives this a try before giving up all hope.

Pretty standard Hefeweizen, just a bit "cleaner" in taste and smell. Lots of fresh citrus and straw-hay flavors come through, with banana and sugar as well. I can taste all of these components as I slowly enjoy this beer. As with any beer, make sure you try this in a proper (Ayinger) glass after it has been properly poured. And definintely pour the sedimentary yeast into your glass as well. It really adds a lot of flavor.

T- Strong flavor of citrus, grains, cloves, bready, yeast, hint of apples

M- Light/medium body, medium carbonation, smooth, lingering flavor, slightly oily finish

16oz bottle poured into a weizen glass.

A - Extremely pale, and hazy yellow concoction. Made for a minimal head, yet displayed excellent retention! The quarter inch or so of froth rode all the way down. No lacing, however.

S - Solid Hefe aroma, banana right up front, with more subtle hints of cloves and other spices. Citrus notes finish it off, very nice smells going on here.

T - Right off the bat you get the spices, with a strong lemon tinge. After that settles, the banana and clove flavors become more present. Pretty good overall.

M - Light bodied, somewhat high carbonation caused a hit here, however. Pleasant aftertaste of clove. No residues.

D - Pretty decent on this one, after I'd finished the bottle, I could've easily poured another, had I the opportunity. A solid hefe and a confident recommendation from me, if you see it, try it.
