Poured from bottle into a pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours a clear mahogany color with a one finger head just off white foam. The head has a great level of retention, slowly fading to leave a tons of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the beer is quite heavy of caramel and brown sugar with a bit of a roasted malt aroma. Some light chocolate smells as well as some molasses and plum are there as well. Overall the aroma is rather sweet.

Taste – The taste begins with a lightly roasted and toasted bready flavor with some sweeter notes of a fruity nature with some plum and cherry. As the taste advances, a caramel and molasses sweetness joins the flavor all while some flavors of a light coffee and chocolate come to the tongue. Some more grainy flavors as well as some more roasted flavors come to the tongue after the cocoa and coffee. At the same time, a bit of an earthy and herbal hop come to the tongue, and in the end, mix with the sweeter and roasted flavors nicely to leave a smooth, lightly toasted, and sweeter flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is average in terms of thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is on the average side. The average carbonation and body are rather a nice bled for the darker but yet very drinkable nature of the brew.

Overall – For a dunkel lager this is on the slightly sweeter side, but very drinkable and quite enjoyable. A rather good easy drinking darker lager.

On tap at McNellie's OKC. Pours a deep reddish brown with a creamy off-white head. Good lacing that cascades down the glass. Smells of malt, caramel and toffee. Taste follows the nose, along with a bit of toasted grain. Medium mouth that's very smooth. Quite a drinkable dunkel.

16.9 oz. bottle poured into tulip glass. Pours a clear, dark brown with ruby undertones. A medium sized tan head settles into a quarter inch thick with faint lacing.

Smell is of dark roasted malt, mocha, caramel, toffee.

Taste is heavy on roasted malt up front with notes of toffee and chocolate in the middle and then finishing with mocha and a faint amount of hops. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, smooth, and creamy.

Overall, a great dunkel, Ayinger never disappoints.

From a 500 ml bottle into a pokal.

A-The beer pours with about a finger of foam that drops to a cap after a minute or so. A thin cap remains even after a few swigs and two minutes of time. The beer is deep amber in color and clear with a fine carbonation creeping up the glass.

S-I sniff malted barley, bread dough, some caramel sweetness, some toffee sweetness, and a light nuttiness. Hops are virtually non-existent. Pleasant and simple.

T-The taste is similar with barley grain overlain by sweet toffee and caramel flavors. There is a bit cocoa and a tease of citrus, but bread is the overwhelming flavor component here.

M-The feel is smooth verging on creamy. The body is medium to full in heft.

O-This is a pleasant beer...nothing to chase trucks over, but certainly worth a drink. I can see drinking a lot of this in the fall when the weather starts to cool down. It would pair well with football watching.

Poured from pint+ bottle into a pilsner.

A - Crystal clear brown. Very thin, quickly dissapating white head.

S - A of bit roasty malt. Not big. Nothing special.

T - Roasty malt and pilsner with an almost chocolate-y sweetness. A tiny little dry hoppiness in the middle.

M - Big lager mouthfeel and a bit dry.

O - If I tried to brew a porter/lager hybrid, this is what I'd aim for. Unfortunately, I'd never want to do this. This is another that I'd not complain if it was all there was, but it lacks "muchness". Needs all of its flavours to be bolder. I enjoyed the Paulaner Salvator doppel bock style much more.

Appearance- Pours a clear, dark amber with a small dense off white head that recedes fairly quick and leaves no lacing.

Smell- Slightly sweet with a good balance of caramel, nuts and munich malt. No hop prescence.

Taste- Fairly sweet with a good balance of drying bitterness. I get flavors of caramel and bread crust with some spicy hops in the background. Gets sweeter and less dry as it warms.

Mouthfeel- Medium full body and carbonation. Very creamy texture and good amount of drying to help balance sweetness.

Overall- Good beer overall, not very complex flavors but the ones I detect compliment each other well.
