Presentation: 17 oz euro brown bottle with no freshness date.

Appearance: Clear pale gold with a huge frothy head that reduces to a semi-patched thin lace.

Smell: Floral aroma, with a lager like sulfur note producing a deep spiciness.

Taste: Wow! One can only wonder at the complexity of this beer. Several malts blend together, creating a velvety sweet coating over the tongue. A pronounced alcoholic feel melds with a potpourri of hop flavour. Clean finish.

Notes: This is truly one of the finest. Worth the extra money if you can find it. (553 characters)

Look: Brilliantly clear and medium gold, with a creamy white head that leaves ring after ring of lace. A beauty of a beer, and a paradigm when it comes to the Maibock style.

Smell: Pils malt gives off a vegetal aroma, but this is typical for the style. Freshly baked biscuits and some soft caramel notes.

Taste: An excellent example of what makes the Maibock so special. A clean Pils malt taste is both sweetened and spiced to the point where one's interest is peaked, but the senses are hardly overwhelmed. The gentle touch of honey and its partnering pinch of white pepper can therefore be appreciated without a lot of pondering. Round, balanced, classic.

Mouthfeel: A soft, medium mouthfeel with moderate carbonation is perfect for the style in that it's refreshing, but also substantial enough to support the additional flavor components.

Overall: A Maibock can be described as a Pilsner with a pinch (as opposed to a punch), and Ayinger is a classic example of this style for a reason. A must for Pilsner and lager lovers, but also something ale enthusiasts can get behind. A beer with a history you can taste. (1,121 characters)

On tap at the Tap and Mallet in Rochester, NY.

This one pours a nice medium golden color, with a 1.5 inch head, and a little bit of lacing.

This smells like grass, a smidgen of honey sweetness, and some lager yeast.

This is really well put together. The flavors all mix together quite well into one drinkable package. There's some strong grassy aroma, a bit of nice doughy breadiness, and some slightly fruity and sweet lager yeast characteristics. This is nothing that'll bash you over the head with flavor, but it's super tasty anyway.

This is light bodied, with a very crisp, and slightly creamy mouthfeel, along with a good level of carbonation.

Ayinger is definitely one of the best German breweries I've sampled. Awesome stuff here. (743 characters)
