The beginning of the best 4 beer months of the year...
Bottle purchased at Brewery Creek, Sept. 2010.
Appearance: I was expecting something slightly more orange/amber, but instead, this pours more yellow-golden. Nice fluffy head on the pour, but it dissipates quickly.
Smell: Classic Marzen aroma...Bready and biscuity with some sugary aromas thrown in. Toffee and caramel.
Taste: So good. Amazingly rich malty lager. Lots of grain, and earthiness in the taste. Sweeter then your average lager. Richer sugar flavours.
Mouthfeel: Nice delicate sweetness and a subtle noble hop bitterness. But overall, this is overtly malt-forward.
Drinkability: There's a reason this is served in 1L Steins at the Oktoberfest in Munich. It's an all-day-drinker for sure.
Overall: On the eve of the first weekend of Oktoberfest, this beer brings back great Bavarian memories from my first trip to Germany. Fantastic authenticity which gives a cozy feeling on a late-summer evening. The painted bottle caps are a nice touch too.
