Pours a hazy, cloudy golden-amber color with exceptional carbonation, lacing and head retention. As it warms the banana influence becomes more pronounced and closes with that classic subtle spicy, peppery finish. I am becoming more and more of a fan of this style of beer. (274 characters)

500 mL bottle from the LCBO; no freshness info apparent. Served slightly chilled.

Pours a clouded golden-amber hue, capped off by one inch of light, fluffy-looking sparkling white head. Retention is excellent, as it takes nearly ten minutes to seep down to a modest-sized cap and foamy collar, slowly depositing a beautiful curtain of lace during the process. This is a gorgeous beer. Lots of overripe, brown banana on the nose, with plenty of wheaty, bready malt sweetness and bubblegum. Notes of citrus and spicy clove are understated, but provide a nice accent to the (much more prominent) banana bread qualities.

Oh man. Make sure you're sitting down before you sip this one. Clean, bready wheat malt, some toasted graininess, and a caramelized sugar sweetness provide the perfect background, while brilliant flavours of overripe, mushy banana and hints of orange peel and lemon zest are allowed to run rampant. It finishes with a yeasty, spicy bite - I get mostly clove, with suggestions of pepper - both fading quickly, while flavours of sweet malt and banana linger on into the aftertaste. Approaching full-bodied, with a creamy, silky-smooth, almost frothy mouthfeel, as well as a bit of a bite from the carbonation. The alcohol content is not noticeable, making this highly drinkable - at least relatively speaking, for the style.

Final Grade: 4.57, an unbelievable A+. Ayinger Weizenbock is, simply put, one of the best examples of this style that I have had to date. It seems to make use of a paler malt bill than most of the other German imports that I have tried - and while I might be convinced into agreeing that the flavour profile of this one is not as complex as beers such as Aventinus or Vitus, it's still every bit as enjoyable as those titans. Superb stuff that should be considered a no-brainer purchase for serious fans of this style - I am kicking myself for only grabbing one bottle. (1,913 characters)

Bottle: Poured a cloudy amber color bock with a large off-white foamy head with great retention and some lacing. Aroma of banana bread ester is just about perfect with just the right amount of residual sugar. Taste is also a near perfect mix of banana bread with sweet wheat malt notes and light cloves undertones. Body is pretty full for style with great carbonation. This is pretty close to style staple as I’ve tasted. (423 characters)

Hazed golden orange colour, 1.5 fingers white head, some lace. Smell is wheaty with bready malts, yeasty and phenolic, banana and spice, clove closer. Taste is malty, buttery creamy banana, fruity and spicy, clove and spicy into the finish, no trace of alcohol at all. Medium carbonation, smooth-creamy medium body. Truly outstanding stuff, so nuanced and well executed, certainly something I will revisit as often as possible. (427 characters)

Purchased at the LCBO for just under $5.00 for a 500ml bottle. Served at 4deg C in a draught glass

A- Opens well and pours a 2" high white head that lasts for many minutes before filming out. Medium to dark gold color and unfiltered

S- Typical wizen scent. Lots of coriander and has that malt back bone of a bock.

T- Mainly a wizen brew. Has a good malt back bone. As a whole a nice blend of coriander and sweetness

M- Sticky as expected

O- Nice blend. Nice complexity. Smooth. Enjoyable. Will buy again

Food Pairing

This nice brew went well with..... Chinese stir fry. Lots of veggies and oyster sauce just does it for this brew.

Stand out beer. Great appearance, aromas of creamy banana, chewy gingerbread. On the palate it is fruity, creamy with an interesting floral spice, hints of bubblegum and a creamy wheaty mouthfeel. Rich robust flavour and an appetizing balance on this, great beer. (263 characters)

Good wheats have sort of fallen off my radar, and those I've had recently are not too exciting... until this. Straw color pour with clinging white froth. Aroma of yummy yeasties and esters along with some bread and banana. Flavor is unadulterated wheat maltiness with some fruit and tanginess along for the ride. Very smooth finish, and pleasant fading aftertaste. This is one of the best weizens. (397 characters)

A momentary hint of banana when poured but the scent dissipated almost immediately and the taste didn’t follow that initial clue. Was more clove (or perhaps some other type of herb) like. What surprises me is the noticeable alcohol scent and flavor. Granted, it’s bock strength - I get it - but still only 7 ABV. Good stuff, overall. (343 characters)

Its caramel orange body is nearly opaque. Three fingers of thick, creamy, tightly knit white head is perched on top. As to the style, its retention is fantastic.

Estery and phenolic to start with plenty of clove and banana peel. A pinch of lemon juice from the wheat cuts through its rich, warm, toasted core. A streak of fruity booze rounds everything out. Straight shooting but full and creamy.

Everything comes at once in one perfectly put together package. Bruised, overly ripe banana meshes with sweet, fresh toasted biscuit. Subtle, smooth caramel is omnipresent. Its overall sweetness is sticky and chewy, coming in layers. There's a slight lemony/acidic quality on its edges. It cuts and cleans, making it very easy to take the next sip.

Lusciously creamy and smooth with a chewy sweetness. It sits between light and medium bodied and sports no sign of alcohol. The carbonation level is refreshing but understated. I could drink gallons of this.

What a treat. It doesn't get much better than this. I'm in the process of learning how to appreciate traditional beer styles and this is a reminder of how enjoyable it can be. (1,134 characters)

Very high quality weizenbock. Strong banana and clove flavours with a nice bready flavour. The alcohol is nicely hidden although the beer is fairly thick for a weizen. I personally find the Ayinger Brau-Weisse to be a bit overrated, but this one is very good. (259 characters)

500 ml bottle served quite cool into a pint glass. Enjoyed after the closing of my new house. Purchased for $4.95 CDN from the LCBO. Looking forward to trying in the third of the triumvirate of great German weizenbocks.

Appearance - very hazy vibrant orange color with a finger and change of off white head. Just a bit of visible carbonation from the edge of the glass.

Smell - plenty of banana and clove with a. Sweet caramel and brown sugar goodness. Basically an amped up super hefeweizen.

Taste - banana and clove with a slightly malty molasses background. Seamlessly put together with a great smoothness. Just awesome and alcohol is imperceptible.

Mouthfeel - perfect, light smooth, yet sufficiently full bodied, well carbonated and silky. Wonderful feel.

Overall - world class stuff all the way around. An instantly classic and a must try for any beer lover. (869 characters)

500ml bottle poured into a weizen glass. This is an older bottle, though I'm not sure how old.

A: cloudy and tawny colored. Three fingers of head eventually settle and leave no lacing.

S: Bananas foster, pithy tropical fruits, craisins, tangy wheat, black pepper and spices, vanilla.

T: Bread, shredded wheat, overripe bananas, caramelized sugar. Slight acidity has set in with hints of tart cranberry. A little oxidized too with some papery flavors in the background. Vanilla pulls toward the back. Clove and black pepper. Almost a gingery sort of flavor too. Ghost-like smokey phenols.

M: Medium body. Full and frothy milkshake type of feel. Low prickling carbonation.

O: The age here is apparent, but I like what it's done for the most part. A classic weizenbock. (772 characters)

Pours golden with an orange blush. Hazy with a frothy foamy head of creamy white foam that lasted. Matte appearance, no shine or glow to this beer. Nose is wheat brought to richness. Toasty bread crust and a bit of clove. Light banana and a creamy but crisp wheat flavor. Slight warming in the finish. Finishes with just a touch of hops for balance and so that the malt can reside splendidly in the after taste with some dark fruits and bread crust. (458 characters)

Solid take on the style. Plenty of sweet fruity esters to go around. Highly drinkable and the ABV is barely noticeable. A must try for fans of the Weizenbock. Well done Ayinger... (179 characters)

500 mL bottle into a tulip glass.

Hazy, deep golden amber color with a frothy white head. Slight retention and minimal lacing. Bready malts and strong clove in the aroma. Sweet flavor with the malt and yeast dominating. A touch of alcohol mixed in. Medium-full bodied.

Swirling the last 1/4 of the bottle to rouse the yeast created a super cloudy appearance and made it even spicier. A solid Weizenbock that would make for a nice treat once in a while but not something I'm grabbing for everyday. (498 characters)

Standard bottle, poured into a weizen glass at ~40 degrees F.

Appearance: Pours a deep honey gold, so cloudy one can barely make out the shadows of their fingers on the other side of the glass, and forms a pale just-off-white head which dies away rather quickly. Lacing is fairly pedestrian.

Smell: Not unlike a wheat field near a mixed orchard of banana and pear trees bursting with ripeness, with bush-sized clumps of coriander and clove dotting the landscape.

Taste: Starting cold, this is heavy with coriander, intensely orange and citric, with supporting buttresses of banana and bubblegum flavors. As it warms, the coriander recedes to being one of several small towers, alongside the banana and bubblegum, with notes of clove and faint pear. It still strikes me as almost more wit-like than hefe-like.

Mouthfeel: Light, lively, bubbly, and refreshing.

Overall: A darned good beer, if not quite up to the standard of their Brau Weisse for me. This feels less like a concentrated weissbier and more like a blend of one with a wit, but that's hardly a bad thing in my book! (1,082 characters)

Nose: Banana bread aromas with a hint of clove,
Cloudy orange 2” white foam cap, rocky, persistent, clingy, lacy.
Palate: Malt driven, big banana bread with slight tartness from the wheat (hint of lemon) on the end but there is a light sweetness throughout.

16.9 oz. bottle poured into wheat beer glass

L: orange-brown, super hazy, not overly dark but a bit darker than standard hefeweizen yellow-orange; huge thick white to off-white foam head; no stick or lacing; shows some bubbles

S: super sweet, banana, some orange, bubble gum ... very sweet; some tart/sour pops in every now and then, but it's very sweet

T: standard hefeweizen banana sweet but with just a pinch of spice ... clove? allspice? it's a bit like a witbier spice; not an ounce of alcohol in the taste, it's perfectly hidden; strong candy hefeweizen, perhaps a bit more tart than the nose; over time, it gets a bit Belgian tripel-like ... very fruity, even ranging into a Belgian dubbel-like taste (darker fruits than banana)

F: solid, good carbonation

O: really good and a great way to get a bit more ABV out of hefeweizen ... honestly, the only thing different from standard hefe here is the extra 1-3% ABV and that Belgian witbier spice ... other than that, it's good banana hefeweizen (1,008 characters)

This great beer pours a cloudy and hazy light copper with a dense and creamy white head. There are floating chunks in the glass as well.
The aroma is all ripe banana and light cloves with hints of pepper.
The taste is spicy clove up front with a little peppery bite with ripe banana and just a hint of lemony/acidic hop late in the sip.
Great mouthfeel, so smooth and creamy.

Cloudy, golden appearance with two fingers of fluffy white head. Aroma is huge bananas and cloves, with I slight hint of bubblegum. Taste is bananas, cloves and just a minor bit of citrus tartness. Mouthfeel is just outstanding, fairly light bodied with perfect carbonation that complements the flavor. This beer is comparable to Vitus and Unser Aventinus in every way- simply wonderful (386 characters)

Cloudy orange colored beer with a medium sized white colored head.

Smells of bruised banana and mildly of cloves. Mildly spicy but this is one strong banana beer.

Sweet and very spicy the clove missing in the smell ready hits hard in the taste. Mild alcohol burn but no alcohol taste. Tastes like banana with punkin pie spice.

Overall a nice Weizenbock but there are a few better. (388 characters)

Golden amber, quite cloudy. Several fingers of foam caps it off, leaving streaks of not very persistent lacing. Aromas are consistent with a hefeweizen, but with a much more pronounced malty sweetness. Honeyed bread is prevalent, while the yeast aspects (primarily clove, ripe banana, a little bit chalky) are more muted.

Flavor is just as the aroma suggests: like a higher gravity hefe. Kind of like maibock meets hefeweizen. Solid, sweet malt body, but there's just enough hop bitterness to keep it from becoming cloying. Super-smooth texture, almost silky. Notes of sweet golden raisin and overripe banana. Very tasty and easy-drinking.

This is an excellent pale Weizenbock. Don't pass this up if you even remotely enjoy wheat beers. (738 characters)

Bottle poured into a weizen glass. Poursl a beautiful golden hue with yellow highlights at the edges. Hazy appearance with foamy white head that lasts into the first few sips leaving a white ring atop the body.
The nose has lots of banana, apple, spices and cloves typical of the style. Flavor profile is similar with a nice,crisp bitterness on the finish. A nice medium body with a semi dry finish. Tight carbonation, really like the mouthfeel on this one. A bit bigger feel than a regular hef which comes across quite nice.
This is a strong offering from one of my preferred Bavarian breweries, very easy to drink with a higher abv (which could prove to be dangerous). Prost! (679 characters)
