On tap in Ayinger am Platzl in Munich. Would have never guessed it's a Kellerbier. Pale straw body slightly hazy. Foam recedes quickly. Smells crackers, apples, light. The taste is perfectly balanced between sweetness of malt and hops. Malt sweetness is very delicate, not overpowering and notmaking it boring like usual kellerbier. The finish is short and dry. Probably the most complex Ayinger profile also.

At their restaurant in Munich “am Platz” because I couldn’t make it to Aying today to visit the brewery. Had this on traditional tap and also the wooden barrel they tapped at 6pm (unfiltered). Super clear and crisp. Delicious malt profile. Insanely easy to drink. Way too smooth. No carbonation yet tons of flavor. Off the charts good.
Update: 0,5L bottle that was part of a mixed 6-pack I purchased at their hotel when I was checking into the room in the lobby. Dated 04.02.24. Just as good as I remember vom fass at their restaurant in Munich. Incredible layers of flavor and truly what I envision when I think cellar bier. Slightly funky, a bit tart, rich malt profile yet so damn drinkable. This is vastly different from the Kellerbier I just drank from Klosterbrau in Bamberg. But these are the regional differences that make the German beer culture so special.

On tap at the brewery. Great head in the half-liter. So clean and crisp.

Stiff snow white meringue foma over ever-so-slightly hazy dark gold; tin, flowers, crackers + a big yeasty center on the nose; bread, some earth, more metallic tand, slight apple ester, and a spicy Noble hop hit; crisp, lt-med, smooth.
4 x 5
Not sure I’d know this wasn’t a Helles - not much more robust than usual. Definitely missing the rustic, unrefined character I'd associate with a Keller. But deep bready malts with a clean finish; shows the usual expertise. I’d like to taste it next to Ayinger Helles.
Nice, but not a Keller to go out of your way for.

Bottle, RBESG 2005 Grand Tasting. Hazy golden colour. Nice pilsener / helles aroma (Hallertau hops?), flowers, grass, honey. Flavour is like a "raw" pilsener, spritzy, tolerable hops but not really that exciting.
