Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this bottle.

The beer pours a light yellow color with a white head. The aroma is wheat, grass and earthy hops. The flavor has a lot of strong grain notes to it with some wheat and earthy hops mixed in. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

330ml bottle. The first window in the 2012 Craft Beer Advent Calendar, and a lovely revelation early this morning before work, for those of us who actually waited.

This beer pours a cloudy, very, very pale golden straw colour, with three fingers of dense, melted marshmallow-esque white head, which leaves some random streaky and specked lace around the glass as it evenly slips away.

It smells of sweet, doughy, grainy pale malts, a bit of raw oatmeal, and very tame floral, earthy hops. The taste is more grainy, white cereal malt, a touch of sour breadiness, a bit of astringently leafy hops, and some nicely generic earthy notes.

The carbonation is fairly understated, and non-consequential, the body a hefty medium weight, and generally quite smooth. It finishes well off-dry, the cereal malt still hanging on in a leisurely manner, as the hop and fruit essences make little effort beyond their quotidian means.

A decently malty lager, with that default Bavarian bready character - nothing complicated, but very easy to drink - which puts it right in the middle of its sibling's metrics. A reserved, but relatively stellar start to this whole revisitation to our more (or less?) impressionable youth. Good on ya, Christian!

This is Beer 1 from the Rieder Advent Calendar. Pours a hazy pale yellow colour, thin white head with no lacing. The smell is all lager yeast, totally one-dimensional. The sweetness is mild with a little lemon, quite enjoyable, but that is about all I enjoyed. The flavour is thin, and the finish has way too much funk for me. There is a hint of honey, and some grassy notes, but I just found this beer sorely lacked flavour. I will say that this is only the second Kellerbier I've ever had, so I'm not exactly familiar with the style, but this wasn't for me.

I sampled a 0.5L measure of this on draught at the Ayingers Wirtshaus in Munich on Saturday. Was served perfectly as is the usual case in Munich.

It was a very standard keller beer, with the cloudy appearance & slightly fruity / buttery mouthfeel. There was a good dose of carbonation (more in the taste than actually present), and it I found that it overpowered the other flavours a little.

Still a very sound representation of the style.

500ml bottle. Weizen glass. Enjoyed on may´12. (thanks – one more time- to Manolo from “Cerveceria Freiburg” ´cause it´s not too easy to find nice spots of Kellerbier style) Pale golden in color, chill haze. Mildy malty & floral hop aromas. Maltiness all around overwhelms low bitterness –shown by a subtle citric touch- . Some ripe apples too. Gentle mouthfeel & well balanced finish. Pleasant drinkability.

Ever so slightly hazy yellow-gold. Big white head with lots of bubbles rushing to the surface.

Pils malt aroma with a little grassy hops in the background. The green hop aroma picks up a little as the beer sits in the glass, and begins to take on a bit of a spice tone.

A decent amount of hop flavor is evident at the first sip. All the carbonation seems to get in the way though and the beer foams up a little while tasting. Crackery malt becomes more pronounced on ensuing sips. A little more bitter than I was expecting; the hop flavor doesn't come through as much as the bitterness.

A little heavily carbonated for my tastes.

Nice kellerbier, not the best but they're generally a little livelier and fuller than their filtered counterparts, which I like.
The yeast was really caked onto the bottom of the bottle, with more yeast mixed in it of course would have had a yeastier aroma and taste to it. I'll be sure to swirl up my next bottle a bit to taste it that way.

Second bottle drunk the next day with all the yeast swirled in. Naturally, a much fuller body and richer mouthfeel with a some lemon zest both in aroma and taste that I find commonly in these kellerbiers. I prefer it this way, and have boosted the score accordingly.

Catching up on the craft beer advent.

A: Hazy straw with a white head, leaves a ring of retention & lace.

S: Steelie, grassy hops and San Fran sourdough bread.

T: Sourdough bread, floral hopping, slight steelie grass, gentle bitterness.

M: Highly attenuated, light to moderate body has a very crisp finish.

O: A really nice, easy-drinking brew.

50cl bottle poured into Spaten seidel

BBE April 2012

A- Dark blonde cloudy body with a crisp solid 3 finger white head that produces very good lacing and retention

S- Slightly musty/earthy, floral hops and touch of biscuit malt

T- Low biscuity malt sweetness throughout with a strong but not dominating earthy hop presence in the finish with a little citrus. Finish is semi-dry.

M- Medium carbonation and mouthfeel.

D- Refreshing amount of hops in the finish. A nice balance between malt and hop, with the bitterness in the semi dry finish being very refreshing. Easy on the tongue and stomach. An excellent example of the style.

This beer has a very bright light golden color. It has a wispy little head that quickly fads away, it has lots of carbonation. Smells clean and clear. I prefer the look of the unfiltered version of this beer, but the taste is pretty much the same. Starts out with a slightly malty flavor but finishes clean and crisp. Mouth feel is pretty week, but I think it would be a good palate cleanser if you were eating a meal with it. Usually I'm not a lager fan, but my exceptions are ones like this.

Had this at Liebhard's in Aying.
Arrived a hazy pale color with a pretty fluffy head. As per the others I've had, it's not really golden or bright yellow, but a lighter color. The haze isn't quite weissbier level, but it's certainly unfiltered.
The flavor components are actually very much like a floral pils. Hoppy and sharp, but with the Bavarian malt background to offer balance. The yeast doesn't have the potent ale yeast flavors but offers more of a clover honey, herbal flavor. That combined with the floral hops makes this pretty unique. Hoppy, herbal, and with just enough malt to meet my personal tastes.
Even though it's got suspended yeast, it drinks like a helles and the mouthfeel is clean.
A very unique example of a pretty rare style. Another winner from Ayinger that's worth the trip from Munich by itself...although there are many of beers like that there!

Served vom fass in a tall 0.5 liter with 1.5 inch head. Opaque pale straw color. Fresh hay and mild hops aroma. Crisp cold slightly bitter slightly citrus bite. Bright and pallate cleansing, ok with a thick complicated pork and gravy dish. Modest carbonation very comforting mouthfeel. Enjoyed fresh at Liebhard's Braustuberl in Aying.

330ml bottle poured into pint glass 27/9/12

A hazy peachy pale yellow with lots of bubbles but not much for head or lace

S sweet malts with some floral hops and dry cereal, not a whole lot going on really

T tastes a little stronger and sweeter, has some fruity notes and earthy tones, I prefer the flavor as its stronger and there’s more to it

M light bodied and just a little foamy, refreshing and a faint grassy finish

O decent beer but I was expecting a little more from Ayinger, easy enough to drink and good flavor but not the best version of the style I’ve had recently

From a classic German brewery I was expecting something special and this one’s just decent. I’ve had a few beers from this Beer Advent Calendar that leaves me wondering about age and transport of the bottles. The BB dates a few months away but that could still have this one well past its prime

Bottle brought home from Munich by my son last month to share (photo submitted for this listing).

A= light cloudy lemon-yellow akin in color to a Witte. Fair carbonated white head dissipating quickly.

S= very nice spicy hops florals, a bit peppery, a citrus aroma and some light malts.

T= much like the scent, spicy citrus hops, nice sweet malts, more than I'd expected for such a light-colored beer. A drop of buckwheat honey.

M= clean, slightly tart and pepper, a bit of sweet malty syrup.

O= I'd session on this (he and his friends did on-tap over in Germany) easily. Great with anything that would go with something akin to a Witte but with more malt-flavor.

Hmmmm so this is supposedly a Kellerbier:

It pours a straw straw blond with no cloudiness??? Shouldnt a Kellerbier always be naturtrueb!

Smells of hops and freshly cut grass

Complex hop flavour not as good as the best ones

Crisp and smooth refreshing with medium body

Very very drinkable

Had on-tap at Liebharts braustuberl. From notes at the bierhall---
Pours a clean golden color, light murkiness, however a really nice fluffy head rises out of the glass.
Light very floral smelling kellerbier, wheras most biers of this style are very musty, and are very similar to a hefe, this one is like a floral Helles or a Pils. Light malty biscuity malts, sweet oranges, grassy and fresh. As the the beer warmed a bit, I found the sweetness a bit too overbearing. The beer becomes pretty one-note, but nonetheless is very refreshing and light, but a touch too sweet for my taste
--bottle 6/05/2010 Upon finding a random bottle of this beer, as I was told it can only be found on tap, I want to expand a bit.
The aroma is very true to the on-tap glass. Orange, malt, biscuit and a very nice fresh grass note. Lemon, musty tartness and candied brown sugar round out the profile.
The flavor is a bit spicier now than what I originally wrote in my on-tap review. the sweetness is still a bit too dominant, but the finish has a definitive spicy peppery character in the throat.. This is a solid Kellerbier, not the best, but good and a pleasant surprise to find in the bottle.
