Appearance is a hazy golden color, with an off-white head. I smell some sweet malts and some pine hops. Taste some malt at the front, a little hop in the middle then an extremely bitter, but in a good way, finish. Mouthfeel is sticky, medium carbonation. Drinkability is good, good if you're a hophead. If you don't like hops/bitter beers, stay away from this one. I enjoyed and think they should bottle it, it would instantly be their best seller, IMHO. Again, a really good beer, will definitely drink again and again.

Growler courtesy of asl187

A: Deep amber near ruby color with good clarity, great webbed lace. the head is good but not great

S: Mostly floral followed by some herbal grassy hops. No citrus really aside from grapefruit and then some pine. there is also some caramel and toasted characteristics

T: Wow this is bitter. Definitely much more towards the english style IPA but it is drinking a pine cone. There is also plenty of bitter grapefruit notes and some caramel character. I do enjoy heavily hopped beers but this one could use a bit more balance

M: Good body and clean feel, no heat and it goes down pretty easy.

D: I am glad i have a friend to help me with the growler because a second glass was all could handle

Had a couple pints of this on tap while I stopped at the brewpub for lunch. Really good service! Hadn't heard of SRM, though???

Appearance - dark orange; typical of an APA. Sticky, intricate lacing.

Smell - flowery, citrusy hops.

Taste - bitterness well balanced with the sweet. Think Torpedo. Don't plan on drinking anything else they brew after having this...you may not be able to taste it.

Mouthfeel - sticky without being syrupy/thick.

Drinkability: High! Great taste, good ABV%, excellent value (I paid $3.75/pint). What else can you ask for? If you find yourself in Indiana, give this APA a try. It won't disappoint.

I picked this up yesterday at their brewery in Greenwood. The girl there always does a great job of filling my growlers all the way up the neck. Nice people there and good food, check them out.

Appearance: Nice light amber color, quite orange like. Actually, the describe it as "Scarlet orange". You can just tell this one is sticky as you're pouring it. This starts out with a thick white frothy head; one that I probably caused to be too large as I let it out of the growler too fast. It died down over time but maintained enough head to leave a nice lacing on my glass.

Smell: Strong floral hops in the nose. The smell of the Super Fly let's you know you're in for a sweet, sticky treat. Many people tell me they get a grainy malty smell out of this more than hops but I disagree. I can pick out the floral, citrusy hop as being the predominant flavor rising out of this.

Taste: Very bitter up front with a nice mellow sweetness following. The finish is even more bitterness. You can tell they packed the tank with hops on this one. If you're a hop head you will not be disappointed by this. If you don't like hops then you should steer clear! The sweetness that comes through is the malt that they have in there although it almost seems like there should be a little more to balance the massive amounts of hops. But then again it wouldn't be a hop heads dream if they did that! To be transparent with you I've had this beer before... many times. It's my typical Thursday $5 growler refill choice at the OB and one I enjoy several times a month. When I share this with friends who have before claimed themselves as hop heads they thought this beer was way too hoppy and way too offensive to their palate. Unfortunately this may have ruined them because they're stock on darker lagers and browns. Don't let that steer you away though! Stop in for a pint today!

Mouth feel: Thick and sticky. A sticky lingering actually hangs out around your mouth as if you just ate some hop pancakes with hop syrup on them. Cold hop syrup at that ;) This is the exact kind of mouthfeel a hop head would enjoy.

Drinkability: It's pretty easy to sit back and knock down a half gallon of this. The 7.5% ABV however may have you second guessing that choice. "May" ;) Just know that after one or two of these you probably shouldn't drive. Other than that drink up, not you typical session beer but one that you can have several pints of before going to bed being ready to move on to the next style.

Received this one in trade from asl187. Props for the hookup!

A - Nice orange color with a thick head forming on the pour. The foaminess sticks around for the full glass, yummy. Nice clarity and color to boot. No lacing or foam left on the glass which would be nice for such a bomb

S - Herbal, citrus hints but predominantly malt based aroma. Looks like all the hops were used to bitter this puppy

T - Very Nice (in Borat voice). The bitterness is nicely supported by the malt backbone that was evident in the aroma. Nice lingering hop flavor on the tongue. Herbal and come citrus notes are dominant throughout the taste.

M - For something that is this bitter(100 IBU) there should really be a donkey punch to the back of my tongue...there isn't.

D - This is on the level with a lot of IPAs out there. At 100 IBUs its very bitter, but I could drink a growler by myself. Drinkable, but nothing I'm seeking out with the multitude of options available.

Overall an IPA that would make old school WWF star Jimmy Snuka proud.

Had on tap at the Oaken Barrel Brewing Company's restaurant/brewpub, Monday, April 6th, 2009.

Came to the table a very nice dark copper color, becoming lighter as you looked down the glass, with some very nice head and lacing. Very deep scent, strong hops with a light hint of malt, mostly pine in the aroma. Deep hop flavor, hits the tongue right away; strong citrus hop start, finishing with a strong pin hop finish; the bitterness stays in the mouth a long time, with just enough malt balance to keep it from being too much. Goes down well, smooth and crisp, with just a tiny iota of initial harshness at each drink. An excellent IPA.

Poured at the brewhouse. What a great tasting beer! Packs some serious hoppiness and quite a bite.

Great beer with Oaken Barrel's steak tips as it goes great with anything spicy. Compliments it well.

My favorite IPA in Indiana by far. Had to by a growler for the road.

I ordered this because it seemed the most "extreme" of the beers offered at Oaken Barrel. The menu promised 100+ IBUs, and while it was bitter, it certainly didn't strike me as THAT bitter. It was a successful marketing strategy though, as I did order it.

Color was pretty orange with lots of fluffy white head. Aroma was very hoppy with a minimal amount of fruitiness or sweetness. Aroma was decidedly hoppy, but a dry un-sweet kind of hoppiness. Flavor was more dry bitterness, not unlike Avery Maharaja. Pretty good.

I would recommend this beer. I had this on-tap at the brewpub.

Had a pint on-site. Take the Gnaw Bone Ale and dial up both the grains and the hops to American IPA strength and you have Super Fly IPA. Big malt back-bone supports the 70 IBU's of Cascades. Wonderfully smooth beer. Light copper in color, and fairly clear. Fresh cascades in the aroma and flavor. Both the malt and hops carry through into the aftertaste balanced toward the hops. I was burping Cascades the rest of the night, but it was worth it. You hop heads will really like this beer.

Served on tap at the brewpub.

Pours a nice amber/red color with about nice looking head on it and that leaves some decent lacing on the glass.
Smells of a weaker IPA. Earthy with grass tones and very slight citrus smell if you really get your nose it.
The smell does not represent the taste though. The citrus and pine flavors really come through while drinking it.
Mouthfeel is pretty good with mild carbonation.
Drinkability is very good for about any occassion. A very good IPA overall and above the norm.

Sampled on location. I hope this beer wasn’t named after the movie. At first glance the pour is a amber to red hue that is semi-cloudy. A good fluffy head that lasts through most of the sample and decent lacing.

The smell is light for an IPA. A good malt base with limited citrus and grassy smells.

The taste is much better with a good balanced IPA flavor. The hops are balanced well from bittering and flavoring. A good citrus bittering that leaves a touch of earthy notes and somewhat piney tastes behind. Mixed nicely with the grapefruit with the same piney aftertaste for a more noticeable earthy taste. The malt is basic but matched well with the hop taste. Good blend.

The body is light to medium grade. Maybe too light as it leaves a watery taste. The texture is good and easy to drink. No real oily taste at all. Overall this was a better then average IPA.

Enjoyed on tap at Rich O's near Louisville KY. Excited to see it available, even more excited after sampling my first sip. Very citrusy and spruce-ey to the nose with a maple syrup malt aroma behind. Flavors allow the sweet vanilla and caramel malt to remain noticable, but allows the hop flavor to dominate--going from grapefruits and oranges to grass-ey and pine-ey with some mild spices thrown in--ginger and pepper. Bittered for effect, but without that 'bite' in the back of the throat. Sweetly pronounced alcohol doesn't create a drying sensation, rather lands a juicy moistness to the mouth. Very easy drinking for such large hop flavor. Good job Oaken Barrel!

Color was lighter than an amber but darker than a golden. The head was a bit thin and low as I watched the bartender imurse the tap into the filling glass. The first smell was very IPA, but not at citrus as I am a custom to in my favorite brews. Heavy hop presence with a hint of malt. Although I'm very parcial to a very citrus aroma, this beer was very balanced and very drinkable. The best offering of the Oaken Barrel.

Pours a brilliant bright red color with a big bright white head. The aroma is loaded with citrus. The taste is a wonderful blend of citrusy hops. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and amply carbonated. Overall, this is a great IPA. One of the best I've had to date.

Had this from a growler that kmpitz2 brought. Pours a light amber color with a moderate head and decent lacing and leaves a little lacing on the glass. The aroma has a little caramel, but a whole lot of pine and grapefruit hops. Lots and lots. Too much for my nose. The flavor is much the same. Tons of hop flavors and bitterness. This is very well made, but just not my style.

Poured from a growler into a tulip glass. The beer comes out a amberish golden color wtih 2 fingers of head that fall to a finger that won't leave. The nose is full on grapefruit hop, with a caramel background, maybe a touch of biscuit as well. The taste is nice. Its almost a combination IPA APA. There is a lot of good citrus hop in there, but also a touch of the dirty hop I want in an APA. What a nice beer. The feel is moderate to thick, with a medium carbonation that makes it nice. The drinkability is pretty good on this one as well. I really like this beer. I read on the website that they may be offering this beer year round soon. That would be a good addition.
