On draft at Capone's in Norristown, PA during Philly beer week. The Warsteiner reps were gracious, paid for my first draft and answered all of my questions. From what I understand this beer will now be available in the U.S. in bottles and kegs (50L).

Appearance is a cloudy brown, with more apparent unfiltered yeast than Franziskaner dunkel. The smell is overwhelmingly caramel with some banana esters. Taste is very smooth with predominant flavors of caramel, clove and banana. This is one of my favorite styles and I would routinely keep kegs of this dunkelweiss in my beer cooler as soon as it is available. (613 characters)

500ml bottle with a BB date stamp of 15 Feb. 2015.
Pours slightly hazy, dark amber, with an abundance of carbonation bubbles rising to a durable, light but creamy, bone-colored head.
Aroma: some malt, more ripe banana and spices.
Flavor: follows smell, but more malt and less spicy.
Feel: light body; exceptionally smooth and creamy for a light bodied beer. (361 characters)

Dark amber on the first pour, second is cloudy and dark brown. A finger of foam initially, lasting surface skim, lacing all around the glass.

Smells like apple juice, oddly.

Tastes a little bland, thin and wheaty, caramel apple would be a stretch, but if it were fresher that might be closer to the truth. Feels over carbed and watery.
Sort of oxidized, probably not in peak condition. Overall, I'm not a fan, the regular Konig Ludwig was always overly sweet and this wasn't much better. Would give it another try if fresh on tap. (533 characters)

Picked this up at a great beer shop in Darmstadt, Germany, Maruhn Welt der Getränke. Hazy amber-brown pour with a two finger foamy off-white head with nice retention and lacing. The nose is classic Weizen with lots of banana, clove, caramel, brown bread, molasses, and some subtle mineral notes. The taste follows suit with tons of sweet caramel malt along with hints of banana, clove, brown sugar, banana bread, tobacco, and molasses. The mouthfeel is thick and chewy with perfect carbonation and great balance. Overall, this is one of my favorite interpretations of the style. (579 characters)

Bottle served cold in glass Weiss beer challis

L) Dull penny colored, hazy w/suspended yeast. Looks terrific albeit a bit light for a dunkel Weiss

S) Banana, caramel and clove. Classic for the Weiss beer category

T) Sweet and tart with mild bitter after taste. Delicious, complex, smooth, drinkable. Great find!

F) Lively beer. I much prefer a beer with ample, effervescent carbonation and this one delivers. Lasts and lasts.

O) A great find and more good news: very reasonably priced. Prost (497 characters)
