Appearance: Konig Hefeweizen pours a hazy sunshine yellow. This beer is head-tastic! A few chucks of sediment swim at the bottom of the glass.
Smell: The aroma lets you know there's plenty of pale wheat malt and lots of good old yeast in this beer.
Taste: The taste is typical hefeweizen, in a good way. For better or for worse, Konig is pretty low on the banana scale for a hefeweizen, which I know is a dealbreaker for some people. You can definitely taste the yeast, which is a good thing in my book.
Mouthfeel: Konig has a great bready, creamy mouthfeel. Just what the doctor ordered for the style.
Drinkability: Highly drinkable, very drinkable, and also pretty darn drinkable.
Notes: I've never had a Bavarian hefeweizen I didn't like, and Konig ranks in the top tier of that good company. Distinguishing between hefeweizens really comes down to three variables for me: how much yeast the beer has (the more the better, says I), how much banana flavor the beer has (I don't mind either way), and how rich of a mouthfeel the beer has (the creamier the better). Konig emerges in a good spot on all three fronts, which pretty much means it's delicious.

Bottle from Bert's
Pours a hazy dark straw color with a wispy bubbly white head that quickly dissipate to a light foam on the top and leaves marginal lace on the way down. Aromas of pepper and clove with hints of bubble gum and a light honey like and spicy maltiness. Bready yeasty aromas and a hint of lemon round out the nose on this one. The flavor is lightly sweet honey, and bready, and spicy malt up front. clove and pepper and bready yeasty flavors counter the malty sweetness well. Light to medium body with a moderate to high level of carbonation and a sweet spicy bubbly mouthfeel. I'm missing the banana, but everything else seems to be there. This would make a nice warm weather brew, light and easy to drink.
