500 ml brown bottle with no freshness date, a little blurb about the beer on the back label. Decent lace for the style with some sporadic stickage, even cloudiness within the pale golden brew.

Light but sharp twang of wheat, soft spiciness and faint yeast in the aroma.

The mouth feel is structured very well with a deeply textured carbonation that provides a stellar crispness in the moderate body. Big bursting juicy wheat malt flavours, lots of grain in the mouth and so in a dry way. Quick cut into the palate with some clove spiciness, very mild alcohol character other than the light warming. Yeastiness is earthy and mineral like and adds a needed harshness to the palate for balance. Dry finish with a clean lingering grain.

A good solid German wheat beer, give this one a go especially if you are into really dry wheat beers. I’ll be going back to this one on occasion.

look: 3.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.5

Presentation: 11.2oz brown bottle. Freshness date on the back label.

Appearance: Very cloudy pale golden beer with a white foam head that settles to a creamy lace.

Smell: Lemony citric, light malty aroma and hints of clove and yeast.

Taste: Extremely smooth and creamy on the palate with an even, sweet malt character. It broken by a soft lemon bitterness that strikes the palate with some backing carbonation fizz and settles back into the malt. Banana and thin notes of clove and other herbals fold into the sweet malt which makes a second round with a touch of sweet caramel. A little dry, bitty and oily in the finish.

Notes: A very flavourful hefeweizen beer (especially if you leave 1/4 in the bottle, swirl and pour into your glass -- yeast is good). Balanced, complex, traditional and quite the authentic beer. A world class beer in my beer book.

Thanks to Warsteiner for the sample!

Very balance brew from Southern Germany. Great yellow color, with above the average thickness and density. A contender for a summer food companion. Mouthfeel just as good as the color, maintaining a hoppy taste from beginning towards the end. Very drinkable and refreshing.

Tried this hefe both straight from the bottle and from a weizen glass.

Pours pale yellow, rests a pleasant gold in the glass with a light 1cm or so head.

Taking a whiff brings in yeasty aromas, along with slight hints of fruit (banana) and cloves.

A very smooth drinker. Tastes go along with the nose. Wheat, more pronounced banana flavor. Pleasantly sweet aftertaste that likes to hang around. No noticeable hops to speak of. While smooth, this hefe is thicker than one might believe based on looks. Carbonation is light, which allows easy drinking.

This is a very nice example of how a hefe-weizen should be, and is my go-to for this type.

Oddly, I picked this up in Greensburg, PA.

Pours much darker than I would expect for the style. Nose is airy bubble gum with strong yeast tones. Mild clove. Nothing too showy or out there; just a really excellent example of a hefeweizen in that it is just well executed.

Bottle: a tall and slender light brown embossed bottle with a pretty tacky old-school Germanic label.

Appearance: poured into a tulip glass. A cloudy light yellow-amber colour with fine carbonation across the profile. A wonderfully thick white head pops up to three fingers and settles to a creamy one. Thick lacing around the entire glass. Looks as good as it gets for a hef.

Aroma: quite strong aromas of wheat, banana and cloves. Not much more than that, but the traditional hefeweizen comes through clean and clear.

Taste: quite demure in the mouth, which was a pity after the nose. Still the same flavours, but dominated more by the banana. I wish there was a touch more wheat fug.

Aftertaste: the banana drops away a bit to be replaced by a touch more of the cloves and wheat, but not quite enough.

Mouth feel: quite a full body with a lower-to-moderate carbonation. Pretty easy to put away.

Overall: a decent Gernal hefeweizen everywhere wear it counts - the flavour was a bit demure for my liking. Still, a decent hef for a decent price (for a German high-end) at AU$90 a case.

BB date just past (31 May). 330mL bottle poured into hefe glass.

A - Pale orange/yellow, slightly cloudy (no sediments), pours respectable 1cm creamy head that fades into a nice 5mm white lacing

S - lot going on, herby (basil and clove) wheaty odour, nice citrus (mandarin) kick, and a maple syrup like sweetness

T - Sweet, but not too much, bready wheat taste with lemon and banana. Long, tarty sweet aftertaste

A - Low carbonation, oily texture, slightly thin body.

O - nice not overtly sweet weissbeer, but the feel let it down a tad. I would be very interested to try this on tap. One of the better ones available.

330 mL bottle $ 1.69 at Lager Mill
Undated bottle at 45 degrees into hand washed and dried weizen glass
Aroma of yeast and fruity aromatics
Head small (2 cm), white, creamy, slowly diminishing to 2 mm layer
Lacing none
Body medium yellow, very cloudy
Taste is sweet with little flavor to back up the aroma, does not last; no hops, no alcohol, no diacetyl.
Palate is light to medium, watery, lively carbonation

This is a nearly flavorless hefeweizen which smells OK, but lacks flavor. The price is appropriate.
