Poured into an odd weizen glass (too short)

I had this at a German-style bier pub

This weissbier had highs and lows. It looked too pale for a weissbier! There were no clouds of yeast. It smelled like a typical weissbier, cloves, bananas, yeast, etc. But, something was lacking. The beer's taste was not really there. It tasted peppery, I did not pick up anything beyond that. The mouthfeel was too watery, average at best.

I probably won't go out of my way for it. But, I'd accept it if I had no other hefeweizen options when I need one.

A- Cloudy, gold color with a solid two inch head (white) that has outstanding retention and leaves lots of sticky lacing.

S- Lots of clove, banana, and earthy yeast aromas. Pepper and bubblegum as well.

T- Starts off somewhat sweeter than most Hefes. A mixture of the above aromas dance on the palate throughout the tasting. There's a tiny hint of alcohol in the finish.

M- Medium feel, with a nice crisp wheat "bite". Medium to high levels of carbonation.

O- Not quite up there with the heavy hitters in this style, but it's not that far off. A solid, well made, and very drinkable example of a Hefe. I can dig it. Give it a try if you haven't already. Prost.

On-tap at Tampa's Oktoberfest 2011.

A: cloudy amber color with opaque characteristics. Big head that dissipated slowly. Small lacing present.

S: faint yeasty aroma along with banana clove and tones of citrus.

T: hoppy character at first followed by lots of wheat in the taste with touches of banana bread, citrus and some sweetness towards the end.

M: very drinkable, medium body, medium carbonation.

O: a good representation of the style, this is a very standard Hefe that should be enjoyed by most.
